Beigong Ling watched the news about the Alt Conglomerate playing on a nearby television, a faint sense of urgency rising within her.
Without being able to hack into the surveillance systems in other districts, finding their base would actually be quite difficult.
Still, to be safe, Beigong Ling had taken steps to muddy the waters. Senna Life had also cooperated perfectly, splitting the Alt Conglomerate's forces into three or four groups that began spreading out from the Alt District.
Sitting in her office, Beigong Ling took a deep breath, then called Jonas Wetting of the Alt Conglomerate using an anonymous but traceable account.
A moment later, the call interface lit up, and Jonas appeared before Beigong Ling.
Surprisingly, however, Jonas looked perfectly calm, as though he had expected her to contact him.
"I thought Miss Beigong Ling would be the more levelheaded type... Apparently, I was mistaken."
Jonas spoke slowly, his tone flat.
He raised his eyes to Beigong Ling and asked, "Are you trying to negotiate with me?"
By this point, everyone knew what the Star of Dawn wanted.
Beigong Ling knew that approaching him now to negotiate and exchange bargaining chips was not a rational move.
But her main purpose this time was not to reach a resolution immediately. It was to divert his attention.
"It seems you already understand the current situation, Mr. Jonas..."
Beigong Ling paused, then continued:
"This isn't what we wanted. Given a choice, the Star of Dawn would prefer never to break its agreement with the Alt Conglomerate."
"But things haven't gone as we hoped. The Alt Corporation doesn't seem to value the promise it made back then... With your side unwilling to honor its commitment, what the Star of Dawn is doing now is merely a last resort."
