Blood scattered across the floor, the ground in disarray, shackles that left her at someone else's mercy.
None of it had anything to do with the word "comfortable."
Even knowing that Jonas had said it deliberately to provoke her, Beigong Ling still felt anger flare inside her, and her eyes grew colder.
"It seems you're reasonably satisfied with the conditions here, Miss Beigong Ling."
He slowly crouched down, looking at Beigong Ling as she leaned against the wall, and asked with some curiosity:
"So, why did you resort to such extreme measures to summon me here?"
The bloodstained wall behind the girl stood in stark contrast to her rather pale skin. The extreme measures Jonas referred to were, of course, her attempt to draw him out by trying to escape.
Beigong Ling did not back down in the face of his attitude. She steadied herself slightly and calmly laid out her analysis:
"You tried to weaken my psychological defenses with darkness and shackles, and you used surveillance to constantly monitor my condition. That means I'm more than just bait to you...
"And you know perfectly well that without me, the Star of Dawn would be a disorganized rabble, no threat whatsoever to the Alt Conglomerate. Yet you chose to imprison me rather than kill me. That means there's something you want to use me for, or information you want from me."
"So you shouldn't be asking me that question. I should be asking you."
Beigong Ling stared at the man before her. Nothing in his expression changed at her words, but she continued:
"So please tell me, what exactly do you want me to do, Mr. Jonas?"
"A very logical deduction, Miss Beigong Ling."
Jonas gave a light round of applause, seemingly surprised by her reasoning.
And he genuinely was.
