This was something many companies and researchers had brought up years ago, even more than a decade ago.
The people living in District 25 were certainly no strangers to this concept. In fact, they were quite familiar with it.
After all, people had used this concept to sell them grand promises more than a decade ago. After so much time without any breakthroughs, they had long since lost faith in it.
Dream dives were an unavoidable part of District 25's development. The product itself, along with the extensive chain of commercial interests it had spawned, had provided tremendous momentum during the district's early growth. Even now, with District 25 largely developed, these industries remained an inseparable part of it.
This product had permeated nearly every aspect of District 25 residents' lives. For something nonessential, the profits it generated were staggering.
And that was only dream dives... Compared to them, the concept of virtual reality, with its greater freedom and realism, clearly had far more potential.
A mere concept could lure in so much investment and profit through empty promises. It was easy to imagine that, once someone actually made it a reality, the returns would be enough to make any power in the Federation green with envy.
That was also why so many people wanted a piece of this industry... Unfortunately, virtual reality was different from dream dives. Although their applications were very similar, the principles behind them still differed somewhat.
The investment costs were too high, and the subsidiary projects could not be monetized. Most companies touting "virtual reality" were only trying to swindle investors.
