A battle of nerves pushed to the limit!
Jonas watched Carol's expression shift from blank shock to self-doubt, but felt little satisfaction.
After all, this was the outcome he had wanted from the start. Otherwise, he would not have kept silent about the First-Generation Prototype already being developed, only revealing that the Alt Conglomerate had actually produced it after she explicitly refused.
It was not that Jonas had deliberately toyed with Carol just to see her overcome with regret... admittedly, that was part of it. More importantly, though, he wanted to gain the upper hand, and giving her a suitable warning was necessary too.
Watching Jonas walk away without hesitation, Carol frowned slightly. She imagined all sorts of possibilities, and an inexplicable unease rose within her.
His remark, "I don't think we have anything left to discuss," had irritated her considerably. Whatever the truth was, she was more inclined to believe that he was deliberately putting on this act to bait her.
After taking a moment to compose herself, Carol abandoned the idea of calling Jonas back. Her gaze flickered as she watched him leave, then she looked away.
Having settled on her own interpretation, Carol no longer had any expectations for this project. Perhaps Jonas really was only bluffing.
Besides, given the Alt Conglomerate's size, even if it really had developed a virtual reality product, the enormous profits involved were more than Jonas could keep for himself... she could not think of anyone else he could work with. In the end, he would still have to approach the Arbitration Bureau.
At that thought, the unease in Carol's heart faded. She shook her head, stopped dwelling on the matter, and returned her attention to the documents before her.
Yet, for some reason, Miss Carol still looked somewhat distracted.
