Morning in District 25 was bright and sunny.
Warm sunlight streamed through the window, casting patches of dappled light across the chairman's desk.
Jonas casually reviewed the conglomerate's reports for the day while taking stock of the Psionics available to the Alt Conglomerate.
"Molton Marvin, Level Two Psionic, ability: Steel Body. Can withstand a thermal-guided bomb head-on without injury... Hmm... A pretty good tank."
"Tommy Alvin, Level Two Psionic, ability: Healing Power. There's our healer. That should be enough to put a team together."
"Guy Chipman..."
Half an hour later, Jonas rubbed his temples, feeling a rare hint of fatigue.
The reason was simple: the conglomerate had fewer usable Psionics than he had imagined. More specifically, it lacked high-end combat power.
At present, the highest-ranked Psionics in all of District 25 were around level four, while most of those within the conglomerate who could serve him were only level one or two.
Level one and two Psionics weren't exactly useless, but their effectiveness was severely limited. Higher-level Psionics slaughtered them, yet they looked down on ordinary people.
And now that the story had reached its later stages, being a level one or two Psionic meant there was essentially little chance of advancing much further.
Time was an insurmountable gulf. The earlier a Psionic awakened their psionic energy, the greater their potential. Conversely, even if others possessed the necessary aptitude, the heights they could reach were severely limited.
"We'll make do for now."
After a moment's consideration, Jonas finalized the list.
Quality could improve gradually; there was no rushing that. Having enough people would do for now.
But speaking of high-level Psionics...
"Mr. Jonas, Miss Celine has requested a meeting with you. She's currently..."
Just then, Eiffel's voice came through the comms.
"No need to report it. She's already here..."
