After the earlier shock and panic, a semblance of calm returned to the night in District 25, but tension and unease still hung over every corner.
People were still bewildered, unable to process what had happened just yet.
The onlookers realized they were still wearing nothing but their underwear, but they did not particularly care and simply started chatting with others.
"Should we... go back to bed?"
"Sleep, my ass! The Alt Conglomerate has a way to defend against that thing! Did you see that burst of fire earlier? That was the thing falling out of the sky! We're not scared of another one!"
No one felt sleepy anymore. With adrenaline surging, even the corporate dogs were willing to chat with beggars, asking whether anything incredible had happened in District 25 lately that might have brought this on.
In the end, though, the conversation still turned to who had caused all this.
"It had to be the fucking Federation! Motherfuckers, who else could it be? If it weren't for the Alt Conglomerate, we'd already be dead! Fuck the Federation!"
"I can't believe she did this. Why would she? We already gave her a chance! And she still tried to assassinate Jonas! She even used a weapon on this scale against civilians!"
"What's wrong with the Federation? Have they forgotten that we took pity on them, let them off the hook, and even agreed to sign a peace treaty?"
"Have you been overdosing on stupid pills? Sign a treaty? Jonas nearly got chopped to pieces before he even made it out the door! Dorothy's simps can fuck off!"
In this space where the usual boundaries had now disappeared, the people of District 25 sought solidarity with one another and vented all their emotions.
