How to care for a rabbit

Qin Miaomiao had no memory whatsoever of what had happened last night. When he woke, he was in an unfamiliar house. The decor was simple and elegant, with a solid brass chandelier overhead and a vase of Casablanca lilies on the coffee table, their petals yellowing and curling.

He sat up and heard the door open. Looking over, he saw Remiya carrying some fresh flowers that looked newly picked. When she came in and saw the rabbit, she asked, "You're awake. Hungry?"

Had Remiya brought me back? Qin Miaomiao couldn't remember at all. He rubbed his belly. He did seem a little hungry, though.

Remiya handed him a carrot. Qin Miaomiao took it and followed at her feet like a little puppy, watching her replace the flowers in the vase. Then he followed her to the door and realized he was no longer in the base headquarters. The headquarters building stood a short distance ahead, towering into the clouds, imposing and magnificent.

They seemed to be in a private residential area. The detached, two-story house had a flower bed out front, and he could tell Remiya put great care into tending it.

Remiya put the old flowers in the flower bed as fertilizer. Once she was done, she dusted off her hands and checked the time. Assuming the rabbit was waiting for something, she said, "He should be back soon."

Qin Miaomiao didn't understand. He smacked his lips, took a bite of carrot, and looked at her in confusion.

Remiya said, "Don't you remember? After he brought you back last night, he went to the base for his shift. I never would have guessed you were so attached to him."

Qin Miaomiao froze. Then he saw a car stop outside the gate. Lei Ouyan got out, looking just as he always did: handsome and cold, as pristine as the snow that never melted atop a mountain.

The wind swept past Lei Ouyan's ears toward him. Qin Miaomiao blanked out for a moment, and his missing memories flooded back. The carrot fell to the ground and rolled to Lei Ouyan's feet.

He remembered everything, including what he had whispered into Lei Ouyan's ear. Including how, after turning back into a rabbit and being brought home, he had insisted on staying in Lei Ouyan's pocket!!!!

Embarrassment, shame, mortification-countless emotions came rushing in at once. He felt faint. How could I be such a shameless, indecent rabbit! How am I supposed to face Lei Ouyan now!

But Lei Ouyan probably doesn't know I was that person yesterday, right? Clinging to that slender hope, Qin Miaomiao tried to gauge his reaction. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary...

Lei Ouyan's gaze followed the carrot before returning to the rabbit. "Food poisoning?"

"Maybe he's just too happy to see you," Remiya said.

Lei Ouyan raised an eyebrow and looked over. "Really?"

Happy, my ass! Just seeing you makes me mad!

As if he had heard him, Lei Ouyan's gaze darkened, a clear warning in his eyes. But Qin Miaomiao was in no state to notice. He was as stiff as a mechanical rabbit, and even his brain had rusted over.

"What are we having for dinner?" Lei Ouyan cleared his throat and asked with apparent casualness.

Don't even think about eating rabbit!

"How about rabbit?"

May it give you diarrhea! May the spice burn you to death!

Qin Miaomiao was both embarrassed and furious. Beside him, Remiya burst into laughter and tilted her head. "It really feels like you two are arguing."

Lei Ouyan gave the rabbit a disdainful glance, unbothered. "Would I argue with a rabbit?"

What else would you call it? You even want to eat a rabbit!

"All right," Remiya said. "I've made the food and put it in the fridge. Remember to heat it up. I'm on the night shift tonight, and I need to work on the analysis report for that last mutant with Jinse. I'm heading to the base."

Shi Jinse?

Something flashed through Qin Miaomiao's mind. He suddenly remembered that he had seen Shi Jinse before both transformations into a human, and he seemed to have hurt him, too. Could that have something to do with it? Qin Miaomiao wasn't sure. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Remiya waved at him. Qin Miaomiao hesitated for a few seconds and was about to follow her when Lei Ouyan forcibly scooped him up and carried him inside. Lei Ouyan tossed him onto the sofa, took off his jacket, set it aside, and asked, "Where were you going?"

None of your business.

"If I didn't make it my business, you'd already be locked in a laboratory."

Qin Miaomiao froze. At last, he began to find it strange. Why did Lei Ouyan seem as though he could actually understand him?

Lei Ouyan's hand paused. Then he went to the fridge to get the food, acting as though nothing had happened.

Qin Miaomiao hadn't noticed that fleeting odd reaction. Deciding to test him, he stood on the sofa with his paws on his hips and shouted, Lei Ouyan!

Lei Ouyan couldn't hear him.

Lei Ouyan, Lei Ouyan! Lei Ouyan is a puppy! Lei Ouyan is a pig! Lei Ouyan is my lackey!

After shouting, Qin Miaomiao hurried over and stood on the kitchen counter to scrutinize Lei Ouyan. But his face betrayed nothing, not even anger.

Looks like I was overthinking it! Qin Miaomiao breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to see what delicious food Lei Ouyan was preparing, he slipped on some oil someone had spilled and fell into the pot beside him with a smack.

Luckily, the heat wasn't on yet.

Lei Ouyan said, "Offering yourself up?"

That evening, Lei Ouyan went upstairs to rest. Qin Miaomiao was still thinking about his transformations into a human. Sitting on the sofa, he found it more baffling the longer he thought, until he finally reached a conclusion. Since he had accidentally bitten Shi Jinse before both transformations, did that mean he could turn human simply by biting someone?

He looked up toward Lei Ouyan on the second floor and hesitated for a minute. Why just think about it? Should I give it a try?

Once he had made up his mind, Qin Miaomiao raced upstairs eagerly. Lei Ouyan hadn't locked the door, so he slipped inside without any trouble.

The lights were off. Only a patch of moonlight illuminated the room, just enough for him to see Lei Ouyan sleeping soundly in bed.

Qin Miaomiao tiptoed forward, crouching low as he carefully crossed the entryway and climbed onto the bed. With every step, he checked whether Lei Ouyan was truly asleep, until he finally reached him.

This was his first time seeing Lei Ouyan so close. His breathing was light, his skin pale, his lashes casting shadows beneath his eyes.

Moonlight rested on his shoulders, quiet and peaceful.

He looked deeply asleep.

Qin Miaomiao edged closer, increasingly unable to stop himself, until he was almost cross-eyed from staring. But where should I bite? Every part of this man looks delicious. Especially his face.

Maybe...

Lei Ouyan had noticed the rabbit the moment he entered. He cracked one eye open and watched the round little rabbit poke around on his body. Finally, he couldn't help asking, "What are you trying to do?"

The rabbit stiffened.

Why did he wake up without warning again! There's no time! Flustered and panicking, Qin Miaomiao suddenly sank his teeth into Lei Ouyan's shoulder.

Lei Ouyan let out a muffled grunt, fully awake now. "You bit me?"

Qin Miaomiao belatedly realized what he had done. I didn't mean to!

But before he could run, Lei Ouyan caught him.

"You bit me, and now you're trying to run?" Lei Ouyan sat up. Only then did Qin Miaomiao see that he was wearing loungewear. His hair was a little messy, and his eyes still held traces of sleepiness and irritation. He looked as though he might eat the rabbit at any moment.

Qin Miaomiao hurriedly put on a pitiful look and gazed at him. I already said sorry. I didn't mean to... Besides, it was only one bite. At worst, I'll take responsibility for you. Would that work?

"What do you think?"

Qin Miaomiao got a spanking. He felt so wronged that tears nearly spilled from his eyes. He had planned to get even with Lei Ouyan once he turned human, but half an hour passed without the slightest change. He hadn't turned human at all.

Now he could only obediently help Lei Ouyan treat the wound. Qin Miaomiao applied the medicine. Looking closely, the wound wasn't even that big... He peeled open a bandage and stuck it on, unable to stop himself from muttering inwardly, Stingy jerk.

An icy glare shot his way, and he immediately behaved himself. Sorry.

Qin Miaomiao obediently climbed off the bed. Just as he was about to leave, he spotted a few books on the bottom shelf of the nearby bookcase. They were right at his eye level, and one was titled-"How to care for a rabbit."

Qin Miaomiao paused. Why would he have a book like that? Could it be...

Impossible. All he ever talks about is eating rabbits. Even so, he couldn't help turning back to look at Lei Ouyan.

Noticing his gaze, Lei Ouyan looked over in confusion. It took him a few seconds to understand what the rabbit's look meant.

He pressed his lips together and lowered his head again, hiding his expression. His voice was mild, as though he were discussing something inconsequential. "I wanted one when I was little. Never got to keep one."

Qin Miaomiao was completely stunned. Who could have imagined that a solitary, cold-blooded Lone Wolf Warrior like Lei Ouyan had such a gentle side? Or perhaps he had simply been too lonely.

Qin Miaomiao hopped back onto his bed. Just then, a cold flash of light appeared outside the window, illuminating half the night sky, followed by a piercing alarm.

They both looked out the window. The wind lifted the curtains, and the roses on the balcony had yet to bloom.

The sky darkened again. Lei Ouyan's voice was low. "A mutant got in."

NAT Base's security system had always been among the best of all the major bases.

Yet the repeated mutant incursions lately made it impossible not to suspect an insider. This was also what Lei Ouyan had been secretly investigating, but he had never found any leads.

Base headquarters was in chaos. Damon had just finished a meeting and had Chris settle the leaders of the other bases while he went to central command himself.

"Coordinates, level, attributes. Report."

"Northwest of the main urban district. Preliminary assessment is level II-III, attributes unknown. It appears to be dormant at present and hasn't moved."

The area nearby was an ordinary residential neighborhood. It wasn't densely populated, but the number of residents was still considerable.

"Activate the shields. Deploy more escape pods." Even at a time like this, Damon remained unhurried and composed. He fell silent for two seconds, then added, "Send Li Weisen first."

His words had barely fallen when the command center doors opened. Chris stood in the doorway, arms folded. "Sir, I request command of the operation."

Damon looked at her, his gaze calm.

Chris watched the two people on the screen. "No one understands those two better than I do."

The mutant was enormous, as tall as a two-story building. It looked like a shrimp, with two extremely protruding eyes and a body shimmering in a rainbow of iridescent colors. It lay motionless on the ground, as though waiting for the right moment.

When Li Weisen arrived after receiving his orders, Lei Ouyan was already there. In the fierce, cold night wind, he stood on the rooftop of an abandoned building, directly facing the mutant.

The rabbit was there, too, standing on his weapon.

Lei Ouyan had always been alone, yet the rabbit's presence didn't seem out of place, as though he had always belonged there.

Li Weisen stood behind him and watched for a while. Remembering what Chris had said, he suddenly didn't know how to face Lei Ouyan.

He walked over and stopped beside him. A huge moon hung overhead, its clear light spilling down and carving a river between them.

Lei Ouyan glanced at him. He had never been in the habit of greeting people.

With a cigarette between his lips, Li Weisen let out a long sigh. Despite all his efforts to brace himself, he still felt awkward. "Lei Ouyan, I have something to tell you."

Lei Ouyan and the rabbit looked over at the same time, puzzled.

Li Weisen didn't even dare look at him. He mumbled for ages without managing to say anything.

Qin Miaomiao stared at him mischievously. What's this? Don't tell me he's about to confess his love?

Lei Ouyan gave him a warning glance.

Li Weisen let out another long sigh, apparently having finally steeled himself. "I just wanted to tell you..."

"Tell me after we deal with this," Lei Ouyan interrupted. They all looked ahead. The mutant had begun to move.

Just then, Chris's voice came through their earpieces. "Li Weisen, Lei Ouyan."

Li Weisen's eyes visibly brightened. Perhaps he had been hoping all along that Chris would return, but what had happened before still stuck in his throat. He opened his mouth, then said nothing.

Chris continued, "This is a Mutant Peacock Mantis Shrimp, mutation level III. Its punches are extremely fast, comparable to bullets. Be careful."

Looking at the mutant before him, Li Weisen's eyes instantly blazed with fighting spirit. Before Chris had finished, he threw away his cigarette butt and leaped into the air, as though he had been waiting a long time, poised to strike.

Lei Ouyan picked up Heavenly Bane and stayed where he was to provide cover. The rabbit switched to his combat gear and flew up as well.

The mutant attacked like a mantis. The ends of its raptorial limbs were as sharp as awls and moved incredibly fast. Chris was right: they were just like bullets.

Li Weisen favored head-on combat, a style that proved somewhat taxing against this shrimp. It folded its forelimbs and smashed them toward him like hammers. Li Weisen raised his blade, but it was like a mantis trying to stop a cart. The impact sent him crashing into a wall.

The mutant raised its hammer again and swung at him. Fortunately, Lei Ouyan arrived in time and saved Li Weisen with a single strike.

"Thanks." Li Weisen got up and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.

Lei Ouyan was far more composed by comparison. "Its weak point is the eyes."

With that, Lei Ouyan leaped up and swiftly engaged the mutant. His opponent was too large and too fast; for now, all he could do was hold it in check.

Soon, he was knocked to the ground. He retreated a few steps, then looked toward Li Weisen.

Li Weisen understood. Gripping his long blade, he gathered all his strength and charged, leaping almost as high as the moon before slicing through the mutant's eyes. Both eyes fell to the ground, throwing up a wave of sand.

Li Weisen froze, staring at his own hands in disbelief before looking at the fallen corpse. Was it really dead?

"No." Chris's voice came urgently through the earpiece. "There's more than one. There's another at headquarters."

Headquarters?

Could this be...

Lei Ouyan's expression tightened as he looked at the corpse on the ground. Before he could react, it suddenly moved, like a fish twitching after death, or a final strike before dying.

Meanwhile, Li Weisen was still immersed in his brief joy. He turned back in confusion, a smile still spread across his face.

A fierce gust cleaved toward him like lightning.

"Li Weisen!"

At the critical moment, a white blur flashed past. Li Weisen was knocked aside.

The rabbit fell to the ground, rolled, then stood up with an imposing air. Lei Ouyan stood beside him.

The mutant, whose head and body had practically been severed, was slowly drawing itself back together. Countless fine threads grew from its wounds, like sticky strands of white glue stretching between them. It was regenerating!

Just as he had suspected. Lei Ouyan said in a low voice, "They're Twin Mutants."

Twin Mutants?

Li Weisen had injured his shoulder. He struggled to sit up, panting from the pain. "So there's another one, and we have to defeat them both at the same time?"

"Yes," Chris's voice came through the earpiece. "They must be defeated simultaneously. Not a second earlier or later, or it'll revive using the other's power, just like this."

"Where's the other one?"

"The Lookout Tower."

Both Lei Ouyan and Li Weisen froze. The base's entire security system had failed to react, yet a mutant had already reached the Lookout Tower.

The implications were obvious.

So there must be a traitor among the base's senior ranks? Li Weisen gritted his teeth and forced himself to calm down. "Then the base... what's the situation there?"

Chris said, "There are a few stray mutants, but they're not a major problem. Our priority now is dealing with the Twin Mutants."

But Li Weisen, the person most likely to fight alongside Lei Ouyan, was clearly no longer able to fight.

They didn't have much time left, either. It would only take the mutant about half an hour to regenerate.

Chris was about to assign other warriors when Lei Ouyan interrupted her and looked at the rabbit. "Let him do it."

You're kidding, right!

Qin Miaomiao looked from side to side, confirming that Lei Ouyan was looking at him.

But what can I do!

Naturally, Chris disagreed as well. "This is serious, Lei Ouyan. Now isn't the time to act recklessly."

Li Weisen tugged up a corner of his mouth in a smile. "He's not acting recklessly."

The medical team had already arrived. Li Weisen was helped onto a stretcher and passed the rabbit as he was carried away.

"I really hate losing out..." Li Weisen turned his head to look at him. "But you really are the best choice."

Li Weisen had grown up under his father's halo, always longing for achievements in battle, yet even now, he had accomplished nothing.

He had thought that today, he could finally stand proudly before his father's photograph. Instead, he had nearly died and gone to stand before his father himself.

Only today had he understood the difference between himself and Lei Ouyan.

He relied too much on others. As a child, he had relied on his father. As an adult, he had relied on Shen Weilai. Once they were both gone, he had relied on the pain of his past.

Yet Lei Ouyan had always stood there alone. He seemed to need nothing, as long as he had one useless rabbit.

Li Weisen lowered his head and gave a self-mocking chuckle. He told the rabbit, "Go. Believe in him, and believe in yourself."

Believe in Lei Ouyan, and believe in himself.

Qin Miaomiao froze where he stood. Lei Ouyan came over and crouched down. "I'll tell you what to do when the time comes."

The rabbit said nothing, and Lei Ouyan softened his voice. "Are you scared?"

It seemed that if he said he was, Lei Ouyan would give up, too.

Qin Miaomiao looked up into Lei Ouyan's eyes, as though sinking into the deep blue sea. He shook his head. No.

With you here, there's nothing to be afraid of.

Mutant stragglers had invaded base headquarters, triggering a level I alert.

As a rabbit still wanted by the base, Qin Miaomiao could hardly enter through the front. He found the ventilation opening he had escaped through before and crawled inside along the ducts.

The interior was in chaos. Enforcement team members were everywhere, weapons raised, ready to shoot any suspicious creature dead on sight.

Qin Miaomiao pressed himself behind a wall and heard a bang. Something fell to the floor nearby-a mutant.

Only now did he realize that the situation at the base was nothing like Chris had described. There weren't just a few. Their numbers were beyond anything he had imagined.

Black liquid trickled along the edge toward his feet. The enforcement team came running over, too, but he was trapped in a blind corner. There was nowhere to retreat. If they saw him, the consequences were all too clear.

Suddenly, the door behind him opened. A pair of hands reached out and dragged him inside. Startled, Qin Miaomiao was about to bite when he saw that it was Remiya. Still shaken, he let out a breath of relief.

He completely failed to notice that this was Damon's lounge, or wonder why Remiya was here.

"Shh." Remiya covered his mouth. Only after the sounds outside receded did she let go.

"Chris told me," Remiya said. "But the base is dangerous right now. I'll take you there."

There were only ten minutes left.

Qin Miaomiao nodded and jumped into her arms.

Sure enough, the entire base was now in danger. Ordinary people were especially forbidden from moving around. Someone stopped Remiya as soon as she stepped outside.

"The commander gave orders. Please don't wander around." They were Damon's men.

"I have urgent business." For the first time, Remiya showed such a fierce side of herself. "Can you take responsibility if you delay me?"

"But..."

After considerable hesitation, they yielded to Remiya's commanding presence and stepped aside.

Remiya brought the rabbit to the direct elevator, then called him back and handed him something. "This is for you."

It was a thin, hand-braided cord, just like the one on the lamp outside Lei Ouyan's lounge. Five-colored strands were woven together, the workmanship a little rough and the cord somewhat worn.

"This is a Peace Knot. Yan braided it himself when he was little," Remiya said. "It can protect you both."

Somewhat surprised, Qin Miaomiao accepted it and looked at Remiya. He didn't understand why she was giving him this.

Just then, a batlike mutant flew toward them. Before Qin Miaomiao could react, Remiya pushed him into the elevator, then turned, drew her gun, and pulled the trigger. She missed.

And it wasn't alone. Another soon flew over, its wings like blades that could slice through iron as though it were mud. Remiya couldn't react in time, and it slashed her arm.

Everything happened in an instant.

Qin Miaomiao wanted to help, but Remiya stopped him. "Go help Yan."

The Twin Mutants Lei Ouyan was facing were effectively the parent organisms, while all the mutants inside the base were their offspring. Unless the parents were eliminated, the offspring would keep coming endlessly.

But Remiya had no combat ability, and she was injured, too.

Qin Miaomiao charged out anyway. He leaped up and knocked the bat aside, only to be flung against the wall himself. His head spun.

He didn't care what happened to him. He was only worried about Remiya.

If Remiya died, Lei Ouyan would be devastated. He forced himself to clear his head and pulled a weapon from his backpack-the trump card Hao Yin had given him, the Laser Sword.

He drew it, charged forward again, and cleaved the mutant apart. A gust swept toward the back of his head-the other one. Qin Miaomiao turned, heard a bang, and the mutant dropped to the floor.

Shi Jinse stood at the end of the corridor with his gun raised, looking almost transparent in the light.

He walked over and helped Remiya up. "Go on," he told the rabbit. "Leave her to me."

Qin Miaomiao scrambled up. At that moment, he noticed nothing amiss. He saw Shi Jinse take Remiya away with his own eyes.

Later, he would often wish time could flow backward. If only he could return to that moment, he would never let Shi Jinse take Remiya away.

He would never let any of it happen. But he had forgotten that he was only a rabbit. He didn't even belong to this world, so he could never change the final outcome.

Qin Miaomiao tightened his grip on the colored cord, turned, and entered the elevator, heading for the Lookout Tower.

Mutant II seemed to be waiting for the other one to recover and was currently lying dormant. Qin Miaomiao stood in the wind, everything feeling like a dream.

When he was little, he had imagined being a hero countless times. Only now did he understand how precious an ordinary life was. He wished the world didn't need heroes, or people who needed protecting, and that everyone could live a long, peaceful life.

Chris had finished analyzing the mutant's data. Her voice came through the earpiece. "According to the data, its eyes are its most sensitive spot. But our earlier attack on their eyes has already alerted them, so they'll be more cautious now. Next, we'll prepare a laser cannon to overwhelm its visual system, then attack the instant its vision is impaired."

"How long?" Lei Ouyan asked.

"Half an hour."

So they needed to hold out for another half hour?

Lei Ouyan fell silent for a few seconds. "Rabbit."

I can do it. Qin Miaomiao gripped the Laser Sword and watched the mutant gradually awaken. He was ready to fight to the bitter end.

"It's all right if you can't."

Lei Ouyan said it suddenly. There was no reason to make one rabbit bear the fate of this world. He was beginning to regret it. Then the rabbit's voice came through his special earpiece.

Lei Ouyan, don't worry. I can do this.

Because we're the best partners.

Lei Ouyan smiled.

That was probably the longest half hour Qin Miaomiao had ever endured. He was knocked down again and again, and got back up again and again, all while saving one last breath for the final strike.

He could barely hold on any longer. But he knew Lei Ouyan was nearby, facing the same ordeal. They were doing the same thing.

As long as Lei Ouyan didn't give up, neither would he.

Time passed, second by second.

Qin Miaomiao lay on the ground and saw a speck of light slowly approaching in the sky. The laser cannon!

A burst of electrical static crackled in his earpiece, followed by Chris's voice. "Everything's ready."

Qin Miaomiao struggled to his feet and activated every piece of support equipment on his body.

"Remember, you only have this one chance."

The countdown sounded like a countdown to death. Every second landed on Qin Miaomiao's heartbeat. He tightened his grip on his weapon and planted his feet.

Suddenly, the cannon thundered, and the sky blazed as bright as day. The mutant was briefly blinded.

"Now!"

"Three, two-"

Qin Miaomiao leaped into the air with a shout: "Aah-!"

A clipped command: "Slash."

The sky darkened. Qin Miaomiao fell to the ground, utterly spent. The clamor around him slowly faded, as though he had fallen into the deep sea and could only let himself sink forever.

He lay there for a long time before he had the strength to stand. Clutching his chest, Qin Miaomiao took a few steps outside and stood at the Lookout Tower's viewing area. Beneath him, the city's lights glittered like scattered stars. The road outside the base gates stretched into the distance like a long river carrying the moon's pale radiance, seemingly without end.

Then a tiny, tiny figure appeared at the intersection. He stopped and looked up.

Qin Miaomiao knew then. That was where it ended.

The base's alarm was finally lifted.

Brimming with excitement, Qin Miaomiao was about to go down and find Lei Ouyan when hurried, synchronized footsteps rang out. He turned, and a squad surrounded him with their guns raised.

Damon emerged from the shadows, light and darkness shifting across his face, then came to a stop.

Was he surrounded? Qin Miaomiao took a step back. What did they want?

Chris followed, out of breath. She shoved aside the guard blocking her and rushed to Damon's side. "You can't do this!"

Damon ignored her and asked the rabbit, "Were you the one who handed Remiya over to Shi Jinse?"

Qin Miaomiao didn't understand. He glanced at Chris, whose brows were tightly furrowed, then nodded.

"Remiya is missing," Damon said.

Qin Miaomiao froze for a moment. What did that mean? Remiya, she...

Chris added, "Shi Jinse is the ringleader of this mutant invasion. He's a class V mutant. And Remiya has something that determines the fate of the entire base."

The rabbit went still. He didn't understand the base's secrets, nor did he know what Remiya had.

But certain details gradually became clear in his mind. At last, he understood why he had felt uneasy when he first met Shi Jinse, why he had mutated, and why he only turned human when he bit Shi Jinse, but not when he bit Lei Ouyan.

Because Shi Jinse was a humanoid mutant. He only transformed when a mutant bit him or he bit a mutant-in other words, through blood contact. Yet he had only understood it now.

Damon said nothing more and ordered them to seize him. Behind the crowd, Lei Ouyan stood there, staring fixedly at the rabbit.

Only then did Qin Miaomiao begin to panic, not because he feared what would happen to him.

He was worried about Lei Ouyan. Would he think he was working with Shi Jinse, too?

Would he stop wanting him?

Only then did Qin Miaomiao realize that he had never cared what this world was like, or what it did to him-whether it was cruel, heartless, or repaid kindness with betrayal.

From beginning to end, all he had cared about was Lei Ouyan, as though Lei Ouyan were his entire world.

Then everything went black.
