Background / History

Upbringing and Marriage Arrangements

Yun Shan raised Yun Yun and taught her for decades. She succeeded him as Misty Cloud Sect Master and took Nalan Yanran as her own disciple. She approved Yanran’s decision to dissolve her engagement to Xiao Yan, believing the sect’s young master should prioritize the sect 110 136 146.

After failing to advance to Dou Zong, Yun Shan feared that his declining lifespan would leave Yun Yun and the sect vulnerable. He arranged a husband-selection contest. Yun Yun initially required a prospective husband to defeat her fairly on Misty Cloud Mountain, but the later advertised terms required only Dou Wang cultivation, an Azure Nether Longevity Pill, and a Sect Breaking Pill. These resources were intended to repay her teacher and sect; she would resign as sect master afterward 41 43 67.

Yun Shan also persuaded her to remain with him rather than visit the Magical Beast Mountain Range. She subsequently agreed to accompany Gu He into the Tagor Desert to search for a Heavenly Flame, despite privately disliking him and insisting that he address her by her title 43 67.

Snake-People Expedition and Captivity

During the assault on the Snake-People Temple, Yun Yun fought the Fourth Elder while Gu He and the other human experts engaged the defenders. Outmatched and badly wounded, she rejected Gu He’s attempt to shelter her and returned to battle to fulfill her promise 77 78.

After the expedition’s defeat, she offered to remain behind in exchange for Gu He’s release. Confined in a stone chamber with her Dou Qi sealed, she was subjected to sexual assault, forced medication, and threats by Fan Tian. She initially refused to plead or willingly submit, even considering who would succeed her if she died 81 82 84 85.

Fan Tian threatened to destroy the Misty Cloud Sect unless she served him for an indefinite period. Her concern for its thousands of members compelled her compliance. Yun Shan eventually found her, and she concealed what had happened while helping her injured teacher escape. Afterward, she realized Fan Tian had removed Medusa’s seal from her and helped restore Yun Shan 84 89 91 92.

Gu He’s Smear Campaign

Back at the sect, Yun Shan again proposed marrying Yun Yun to Gu He. Gu He rejected the arrangement, publicly shamed her over her captivity, and suggested using her as payment to recruit Dou Zong allies. Yun Yun fled the confrontation without explaining her experience 110.

Gu He’s rumors spread through the sect and reached Nalan Yanran. Yun Yun reassured her disciple, recognized his attempt to undermine her authority, and publicly accused him of exploiting the sect’s support to seize its leadership. Sect members sided with her 111 112.

Their battle ended in a draw: Yun Yun’s higher cultivation was offset by Gu He’s Heavenly Flame and growing familiarity with Dou Emperor combat. She subsequently punished his slander, chose not to escalate the dispute further, and resumed cultivation 115 116.

Political Mission and Reunion with Fan Tian

Yun Yun eventually told Yun Shan that a powerful young man had captured and confined her at the Snake-People Temple. Having reached Dou Zong himself, Yun Shan warned that stronger outside forces were manipulating Jia Ma’s factions. He instructed her to discreetly inform Jia Xingtian and Fa Ma, and to support Fan Tian if necessary 129.

At the imperial hall, she unexpectedly encountered Fan Tian again. Despite her fear and distress, she delivered Yun Shan’s warning. Fan Tian revealed Xiao Yan’s identity as the alchemist Yan Xiao and his Eight-Star Great Dou Master cultivation, exposing the danger facing Two-Star Great Dou Master Nalan Yanran 135 136.

When Yanran refused Fan Tian’s demand to become his maid in exchange for assistance, Yun Yun was proud of her resistance. She then privately persuaded him to cure Nalan Jie’s Brand Poison, securing help for her disciple without Yanran accepting his bargain 137 138 139 141.

Her attachment to Fan Tian became more explicit during this period, though she feared becoming a disposable plaything or subordinate partner. He offered her a wife’s place while refusing exclusivity. She initiated a kiss, which Yanran witnessed. Soon afterward, Yun Yun left with him and left her disciple a warning about Xiao Yan 140 141 142.

Three-Year Agreement and Yun Shan’s Death

Yun Yun returned during the duel’s aftermath, declared the Three-Year Agreement finished, and tried to separate Xiao Yan and Nalan Yanran. When Xiao Yan attacked her defeated disciple, she knocked away his Heavy Xuan Ruler and ordered him to leave 143 144.

Ling Ying intervened for Xiao Yan. His first attack shattered Yun Yun’s sword and severely wounded her. She rallied the sect into the Cloud Smoke Covering Sun Formation, barely surviving another strike before Yun Shan arrived to defend them 145.

After Xiao Yan demanded that both Yanran and Yun Yun kneel, Yun Shan escalated the confrontation. Yun Yun trapped Xiao Yan in a Wind Barrier, enabling the sect’s elders to capture and beat him. Gu Xun’er then intervened, gravely injured Yun Yun, and killed Yun Shan at Xiao Yan’s request 146 147.

Fan Tian entered the confrontation afterward, having deliberately declined to save Yun Shan. During his battle with Gu Xun’er, sect elders risked their lives to drag Yun Yun away from shock waves capable of killing a Dou Emperor 147 148.

Appearance

Yun Yun is tall and fair-skinned, with long black hair, a slender waist, and a curvaceous figure. Her public bearing is cool and dignified 78 135 139 140.

  • Clothing: Appears in green robes, black robes, and moon-white sleeves at different points 89 112 135 144.
  • Footwear: Wears high-heeled boots or pointed high heels; cyan stilettos remain intact during her captivity 77 82 135.
  • Dou Qi wings: Sky-blue when she arrives at the imperial city 135.
  • Distinguishing mark: An old shoulder scar noticed by Fan Tian 82.

Personality

Yun Yun combines gentleness and composure with a strong sense of responsibility. Even when threatened with death, she thinks about the sect’s succession rather than only her own survival. Her willingness to sacrifice herself repeatedly centers on protecting Yun Shan, Nalan Yanran, and the sect 81 82 85 138.

Her restraint does not prevent decisive action. She continues fighting after severe injury, confronts Gu He when his harassment threatens her authority, and physically intervenes when Xiao Yan attacks her disciple 77 112 144 145.

Fan Tian’s abuse leaves her fearful, ashamed, resentful, and unable to sleep peacefully. Later chapters also portray jealousy, attraction, and an increasingly explicit attachment to him. She nevertheless challenges his treatment of Yanran and seeks reassurance that he will not treat her as disposable 89 92 136 138 140 141.
