Having suffered physically from being haunted by evil spirits, the people who had gathered here were unstinting in their gratitude.
Out of reverence for the unknown, they treated the monk on the platform with utmost respect.
Suguru Geto signaled that they were free to leave, casually adding that if evil spirits haunted them again, they could still come here and have him exorcise them free of charge.
The crowd quickly scattered, though quite a few slipped sizable bills into the temple's donation box before leaving.
Once the "monkeys" he despised had gone, Suguru Geto took out the cursed spirit orbs and swallowed them one by one.
An indescribably nauseating taste spread through his mouth.
Suguru Geto's expression remained unchanged, as though he had already grown accustomed to the sensation.
"They taste as awful as ever."
Suguru Geto closed his eyes, feeling the cursed energy flow through his body.
"But to fulfill our great cause..."
"I still have to collect these things."
The night breeze swept through the temple, setting the wind chimes ringing again.
Yet this seemingly peaceful new temple had now become a place that continually devoured curses.
Deep within the temple.
As Suguru Geto continued absorbing cursed spirits, several figures gradually appeared in the once-quiet courtyard.
They were not ordinary worshippers, but jujutsu sorcerers who followed Suguru Geto.
Under the dim light, a tall, dark-skinned foreign man leaned against a pillar, watching everything in the courtyard with his arms folded. He simply waited quietly to one side.
Footsteps sounded outside the courtyard as well, and a figure emerged from the darkness.
A beautiful young woman with long pink hair and a graceful figure approached Suguru Geto, dressed in a pale purple gown.
She also held a teal leather-bound report folder in both hands.
"Lord Geto, there's something I'd like to remind you of."
"Your true nature showed while you were on the platform just now, but those monkeys worship you so much that they didn't notice."
"Please pay a little more attention to your expressions. Otherwise, you'll spoil that handsome face of yours."
Dressed in monk's robes, Suguru Geto flicked his sleeve casually. He did not particularly care about showing his vicious side in front of monkeys.
"Ah, Manami."
"Have you finished looking into what I asked you to investigate?"
The woman Suguru Geto had addressed as Manami sighed softly and went along with his change of subject.
"Yes. Dai Li, whom you asked me to investigate, entered Jujutsu High back in April as a first-year student."
"I already knew that part."
"His enrollment was sponsored by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High. Most likely, Satoru Gojo found him and invited him to enroll."
At the sound of Satoru Gojo's name, Suguru Geto, who had been standing straight with his arms folded, wavered slightly.
"Satoru, huh? That's very like him."
"If not for our differing ideals, I'd love to make him part of my family too. Talented people shine wherever they go. Continue."
"Yes. According to the information we gathered, shortly after becoming a Grade 2 Jujutsu Sorcerer, Dai Li began taking missions continuously and exorcised a large number of Grade 1 Cursed Spirits."
"After one jujutsu field exercise, he encountered and exorcised a special grade imaginary vengeful spirit. That cursed spirit had also learned Domain Expansion."
Domain Expansion, huh? Constructing the scenery of an innate domain using cursed energy.
The pinnacle of jujutsu that I still haven't mastered, and a mere cursed spirit managed to learn it...
"What a shame. If only I'd gotten my hands on that special grade cursed spirit capable of Domain Expansion..."
The more Suguru Geto imagined it, the more his expression twisted. He made no effort to hide his desire to possess it.
"Ahem, Lord Geto."
Only at Manami's reminder did Suguru Geto reluctantly pull himself out of his fantasy.
"Using the Three Great Families' secret anti-domain technique, Falling Blossom Emotion, together with his Innate Cursed Technique, 'Projection Cursed Technique,' Dai Li successfully exorcised the special grade cursed spirit while it was weakened."
"Wait. 'Projection Cursed Technique'? Isn't his Innate Cursed Technique related to binding vows? He revealed information about his technique to me during our previous fight."
Suguru Geto trusted his family and knew Manami's competence well, so he did not question the authenticity of the information she held.
"Well, in Jujutsu High's student records, his Innate Cursed Technique is listed as Projection Cursed Technique. It isn't false information. His Projection Cursed Technique allows him to construct and project large quantities of cursed tools using cursed energy to attack."
"Compared with the similar Construction Technique, the projected objects require cursed energy to sustain their manifestation, making the technique highly efficient in combat."
"That's how Jujutsu High's internal records describe it."
Though Suguru Geto was deeply puzzled, there had been exceptional jujutsu sorcerers with two techniques throughout jujutsu history, so he did not dwell on Jujutsu High's information any further.
"Never mind. When we go to Jujutsu High, I'll catch up with him myself."
"Our next plan needs to center on Rika Orimoto, the spirit behind Yuta Okkotsu."
"The Queen of Curses-Rika Orimoto. Once I have her, I won't be far from fulfilling my long-held dream of a world containing only jujutsu sorcerers."
Manami did not respond immediately. She merely lowered her head and opened the report folder, checking its contents once more.
"We've gathered almost all the information we need on Yuta Okkotsu."
"Satoru Gojo discovered him, and he subsequently became a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Although he hasn't been enrolled for long, having Rika Orimoto, a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit, means his total cursed energy and potential far exceed those of ordinary sorcerers."
Suguru Geto's interest flared.
"What an exciting prospect."
"A boy haunted by a curse, yet possessing enough power to reshape all of Jujutsu Society."
Suguru Geto turned and looked out the window at the pitch-black night sky.
"But power itself has no meaning."
"What matters is how the person who holds that power chooses to use it."
"Such power ought to be placed in the hands of someone who knows how to use it properly."
Manami flipped through the report folder and handed him another page.
"Yuta Okkotsu and Dai Li should both be at Kyoto Jujutsu High for the sister-school Goodwill Event right now, though we don't know the specifics."
"That's fine. Tengen's barrier is there too, after all. Once they return to Tokyo Jujutsu High, we'll announce the 'Night Parade of a Hundred Demons' and declare war on them."
Suguru Geto closed the file.
"We'll put Dai Li and the others aside for now."
"The boy is our top priority. We must obtain Rika Orimoto's power."
The Black man who had remained silent beside them slowly straightened up.
"Geto."
"Are you sure you want to face Satoru Gojo head-on?"
"Yes. It's something I have to face before obtaining Rika Orimoto. But there's one point I need to correct."
The foreign sorcerer, Miguel, had no idea what Suguru Geto wanted to correct. He merely shrugged to show that he did not mind.
"I'm not the one facing Satoru Gojo head-on. You are."
"?!?"
Behind his sunglasses, the eyes of Miguel, the jujutsu sorcerer from Africa, widened. His formerly composed demeanor crumbled, leaving him unable to hide his shock.
He stared at Suguru Geto in disbelief.
"Geto..."
Seriously, are you actually treating me like a Black slave?
