Background / History
Fushiguro carries Zenin blood and possesses the clan’s inherited Ten Shadows Technique. Kamo regards him as a genius whose defeat would establish Kamo’s own standing within his family. While still a Jujutsu High student himself, Gojo paid one billion yen from his allowance to buy Megumi from the Zenin clan 28 32 37.
His father disappeared years before the story’s current events. During an especially exhausting training session, Megumi hallucinates his father waving from the sky and closes his eyes in disgust. The narration separately identifies the remains taken from Spirit Medium Granny as those of Fushiguro’s father 14 19.
Appearance
- Spiky hair — prompts Nobara’s “Sea Urchin Head” nickname 2 7.
- Reserved expression — Nobara describes him as wearing an aloof look; Gojo later calls him the “young king of keeping a straight face” 8 44.
Personality
Fushiguro is pragmatic rather than battle-hungry. His guiding approach is to do everything he can while avoiding unnecessary trouble. He prefers not to fight, but is willing to take an opponent down with him if retreat or victory seems impossible 32.
His loyalty repeatedly overrides his concern for personal safety. He rescues Nobara, stays behind for Yuji, and considers a suicidal ritual to force Sukuna to restore Yuji’s heart. Gojo identifies this readiness to sacrifice himself as a limitation: Megumi imagines dying to defeat an enemy more readily than he imagines a stronger future self 8 44.
His restraint makes him a frequent deadpan counterpart to Jiahao. He dislikes public attention, tries to remain unnoticed during the restaurant outing, and gradually becomes accustomed to Jiahao’s declarations. Familiarity does not prevent him from recognizing Jiahao as reliable when a crisis turns serious 5 7 9 16.
Abilities & Skills
Ten Shadows Technique
An inherited Zenin technique used to summon shikigami through shadows and hand signs 8 32.
- Divine Dogs — used for scouting, keeping watch, and signaling. The White Divine Dogs are killed during the detention-center ambush; the Black Divine Dogs later howl to tell Yuji that his companions have evacuated 8.
- Max Elephant — releases a powerful torrent of water from its trunk. Fushiguro uses it to blast Kamo through a wooden window 32.
- Nue — a large, iron-masked bird shikigami that attacks with lightning-wreathed talons. Its attack fails to injure Hanami, whose branches subsequently pierce it 32.
- Shadow storage — Fushiguro draws a sharp black cursed blade from his shadow during the Hanami encounter 32.
- Summoning signs — changes hand formations to deploy different shikigami, including an elephant-trunk-shaped sign for Max Elephant 32.
Mahoraga Summoning Ritual
Fushiguro considers summoning Mahoraga against Sukuna as a last resort, knowing the ritual could kill himself, Yuji, and Jiahao 3.
- Mutually destructive option — he believes defeating one-finger Sukuna at the cost of his own life may be possible 2 3.
- Unperformed in the documented confrontations — he does not complete the rooftop summoning, and Nobara’s return interrupts his later suicide ritual at the detention center 3 8.
- Psychological limitation — Gojo warns that relying on a fatal trump card encourages him to underestimate his potential and accept death too readily 44.
Cursed-Energy Reinforcement and Close Combat
Fushiguro can reinforce his physical performance with cursed energy and fight at close range with a cursed blade 2 32.
- Enhanced pursuit — cursed energy allows him to keep up with Yuji’s extraordinary running speed 2.
- Weapon-and-shikigami coordination — combines a blade strike with Nue’s lightning while Kamo attacks Hanami with Blood Manipulation 32.
- Training gains — improves under Jiahao’s brutal instruction and later requests a private sparring session with Gojo 20 44.
- Remaining power gap — his improved strength is still insufficient to withstand the collateral effects of Shibuya’s main special-grade confrontation 47.
Tactical Analysis
Fushiguro pays close attention to enemy techniques, threat levels, and evacuation needs.
- Correctly suspects that a concealed cursed technique explains the mountain-road attacker’s repeated recovery from Jiahao’s blows 13 14.
- Helps explain that Strength Reversal has an upper limit that Jiahao’s attacks exceed 14.
- Requests an expanded evacuation zone and a Grade 1 or stronger sorcerer after rescuing Nobara 8.
- Is the first student to notice the Grade 2 curse inside Jujutsu High and urgently warns Yuji 24.
- Explains Todo’s combat record to establish why Jiahao defeating him so easily is significant 29.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black cursed blade — stored in his shadow and used against Hanami’s thigh; the strike fails to damage the special-grade curse 32.
Relationships
- Yuji Itadori — classmate and friend. Fushiguro initially warns him about Sukuna’s finger, later risks his life to save him, and helps bring him back for medical treatment 2 8 9 10.
- Satoru Gojo — teacher and mentor. Gojo bought him from the Zenin clan, teases him freely, and challenges his self-sacrificial outlook through direct training and advice 3 37 44.
- Wang Jiahao — classmate and training instructor. Fushiguro escorts him to Jujutsu High, endures his theatrics and repeated training injuries, but comes to trust his effectiveness in emergencies 4 5 9 20 28.
- Nobara Kugisaki — classmate and teammate. He rescues her from the detention center; after she returns, they face Sukuna together and later support the wounded Yuji 8 9.
- Maki — upperclassman and training partner. Fushiguro recognizes that her eagerness for harsh training comes from wanting to grow stronger, rather than enjoying the punishment 16 20.
- Noritoshi Kamo — rival from Kyoto Jujutsu High. Kamo seeks to defeat him for clan recognition, but the two cooperate immediately when Hanami appears 32.
- His father — disappeared years earlier. Megumi reacts with disgust to a training-induced hallucination of him; Jiahao later possesses his remains 14 19.
- Ryomen Sukuna — enemy occupying Yuji’s body. Fushiguro repeatedly considers lethal measures against him while trying to preserve Yuji’s life 2 3 8.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Sukuna’s First Appearance
- Finds Yuji at the hospital, explains that curses arise from humanity’s negative emotions, and warns him about the danger of Sukuna’s finger 2.
- Is badly injured during the rooftop curse attack. After Yuji consumes the finger, he prepares to confront Sukuna while Jiahao’s piano performance disrupts the scene 2 3.
- Reports the incident to Gojo, then spends three days accompanying Jiahao before bringing him to Jujutsu High 3 4 5.
Eishu Juvenile Detention Center
- Enters with Yuji and Nobara on a survivor-rescue mission that leaves the students facing a special-grade curse without Gojo or Jiahao present 8.
- Retrieves the injured Nobara, arranges evacuation, and remains behind for Yuji. When Sukuna removes Yuji’s heart, Fushiguro prepares to force him into healing it through a desperate confrontation 8.
- After Jiahao defeats Sukuna, helps Nobara support Yuji and seeks Shoko’s help for his missing arms. He later joins the others in attacking Jiahao after another round of belittling boasts 9 10.
Training and the Goodwill Event
- Endures Jiahao’s week-long close-combat regimen and continues training with the upperclassmen. His painful experiences lead him to warn Kyoto’s students against provoking Jiahao 16 20 28.
- Fights Kamo with Max Elephant, then joins him against Hanami. Their combined attacks fail, Nue is critically injured, and Jiahao intervenes before Hanami reaches Fushiguro 32.
- Witnesses Jiahao’s apparent defection and the destructive clash with Gojo. Todo helps move the students to safety during the battle’s escalation 34 36.
Renewed Training and Shibuya
- Requests sparring with Gojo as his classmates grow stronger. Gojo urges him to pursue victory without treating his own death as the solution 44.
- Joins Gojo, Nanami, and Ino at Shibuya’s southern entrance on October 31. When Gojo advances alone toward the strongest enemies, Fushiguro remains with Nanami to clear lesser curses and feels frustrated by the limits of his recent growth 46 47.
