Three months later, January 20, Kyoto Prefecture.
Naomitsu returned to the Zenin Clan with gifts. The familiar place had not changed much, but Ogi Zenin's attitude had changed considerably.
"My boy! You're back!"
Naturally, Naomitsu did not greet him warmly. This profit-obsessed man, who cared only about prestige and status, had no room for the word "child" in his heart.
"Go get me something to eat!"
Naomitsu sent his parents away and finally enjoyed some peace and quiet. Before his two sisters returned, he put the gifts in his room.
The new year has already begun. Once my birthday on July 7 passes this year, my cursed energy will surge again. By then, I'll be a top-tier Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer.
Next, I'll have to tame Great Serpent, Round Deer, Piercing Ox, and Tiger Funeral. During that time, I'll also need to figure out my domain.
Alone in his room, Naomitsu laid out the course of his future. He had plenty of time left to work through it all at his own pace.
As the sun sank in the west, two figures entered the house as usual. They were the twin sisters, Maki and Mai.
"Mai-chan! Take the food to Mitsu-chan's room!"
Mai was stunned by her mother's words. She pestered her mother, asking where Naomitsu was.
"Silly girl! Didn't I just tell you? In his room!"
With the answer they wanted, the sisters raced off in delight, without even taking the food from their mother's hands.
"You two... Oh, honestly!"
The sisters rushed into the courtyard. Without even knocking, they burst straight into Naomitsu's room.
"Mitsu-chan! I missed you so much!"
Mai launched herself at him and clung tightly to his body. Maki followed right behind and hugged him from the other side.
"Why didn't you tell us you were coming back? We would've taken time off to come get you!"
At that moment, the little tyrant Maki was like a mother, holding Naomitsu with affection brimming in her eyes as she checked him for injuries.
With both his older sisters doting on him like this, Naomitsu was happy, of course.
"Maki, Mai, let go for a moment. I've got some good news for you."
At the mention of good news, two pairs of wide eyes turned toward him. They climbed off him, then each grabbed one of his arms to keep him from escaping.
"Tell us! No dinner until you do!"
Faced with their eager anticipation, Naomitsu repeated the news that had stunned Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto.
When they heard that Naomitsu was going to become a teacher at Kyoto Jujutsu High, their first reaction was disbelief.
"Bad Mitsu-chan! How dare you trick your big sisters!"
"Mitsu-chan! You mustn't tell lies!"
"If you don't believe me, just ask Utahime." Speechless, Naomitsu rolled his eyes at them.
"All right! I believe you! It's just such a shock!"
"Yeah! Exactly! Mitsu-chan, aren't you only five? You're two years younger than us!"
"So what? That just proves how good I am! When you become my students, remember to call me 'teacher' at school!" Naomitsu patted their little heads, acting like a miniature adult.
"No way. Mitsu-chan will always be my little brother. Even if you become a Jujutsu High teacher, you're still my little brother."
With that, Mai hugged Naomitsu again. The three of them kept teasing and playing with one another until dinner was over.
After dinner came the celebration of the sisters' birthday. Ogi Zenin did not remember it at all, and he was nowhere to be seen once dinner ended.
Their mother, however, had prepared a birthday cake. Strawberries decorated the top, with the sisters' names written in the middle.
"Maki-chan, Mai-chan, happy birthday."
Perhaps because of Naomitsu's presence, their mother was not as stifled as she had been in the original story. Even when facing the sisters, she expressed her emotions far more freely.
Still, because of Ogi Zenin, a barrier remained between them.
"Mitsu-chan! Aren't you forgetting something?"
Maki glared at Naomitsu. At seven years old, she was already showing the makings of a tyrant. If she treated even her beloved little brother this way, there was no telling how fierce her temper could be with anyone else.
"I prepared your gifts ages ago. I told you back in Tokyo that I'd give you a surprise."
Under the sisters' expectant gazes, Naomitsu first brought out Mai's little hamster.
"Its name is Moji! This is my gift to you, Mai! When I'm not around, you can pretend it's me."
Mai happily took it and exchanged little squeaks with Moji in the cage.
Naomitsu turned to meet Maki's gaze. Under her scrutiny, he took out the pair of glasses.
"Hm?"
"I specifically asked Tokyo Jujutsu High for these," Naomitsu explained. "They let people without cursed energy see cursed spirits. I thought you'd need them, Maki."
Maki's eyes lit up at his explanation. She already loved collecting cursed tools, and these glasses did exactly what she wanted.
"Thank you, Mitsu-chan! I love your gift!" Without hesitation, Maki put the glasses on.
"All right! Time for cake!"
Next came dividing up the cake. Naomitsu did not particularly like sweets, so most of it ended up in the sisters' stomachs. The rest was saved for their mother, who was still working.
The next day, the sisters left early for class.
By the time Naomitsu woke up, the sun was already high in the sky. Today was his first day on the job, and he still had no idea how to teach his students.
"Forget it. I'll figure it out when I get there. If all else fails, I'll just have my shikigami spar with them."
Unable to be bothered to think any further, Naomitsu changed into somewhat formal clothes. With his mother watching him go, he left the Zenin Clan.
Still groggy, Naomitsu arrived at Kyoto Jujutsu High. Still groggy, he found himself standing at the lectern.
Looking at the three boys and girls below, all around seventeen or eighteen, Naomitsu suddenly felt that the whole thing was unreal. The three students in front of him felt the same way.
Fortunately, none of them were characters he recognized from the story. If they were ordinary characters, they should all be easy enough to handle.
As he recalled, Aoi Todo and Noritoshi Kamo had not yet enrolled at Kyoto Jujutsu High.
This current group should all be ordinary jujutsu sorcerers. They probably were not very strong, perhaps even a little weaker than Kasumi Miwa.
"I'm your teacher! From now on, you can ask me about anything you don't understand! Now, let's start with introductions!"
Once Naomitsu spoke, the only female student seated in the room began.
"My name is Nobara Kugisaki. I'm from Iwate Prefecture. Hello, everyone. It's nice to meet you."
Hearing the surname Kugisaki brought the name Nobara Kugisaki to Naomitsu's mind.
"Do you know Nobara Kugisaki?"
Nobara nodded. "I know Nobara! She's my younger cousin! Do you know her too, sir?"
Naomitsu nodded, then turned to the other two.
"My name is Inumaki Yaki!"
The boy named Inumaki wore a mask over his face. After giving his name, he was unwilling to waste even one more word.
The other student's name startled Naomitsu even more.
"My name is Fujiwara Sora. I'm from Kamigyo in Kyoto Prefecture. It's nice to meet you all."
The plot... seemed to have undergone major changes... without him even noticing...
