Appearance
- Sunglasses — Wears them when he returns after leaving Naomitsu alone for a month 21.
- Blindfold — Covers his Six Eyes during the conversation about Geto’s apparent death 48.
Personality
Gojo is playful, confident, and informal even when acting as a teacher. He greets Naomitsu with jokes and readily agrees to a test of their techniques. His enormous mission workload also makes him an unreliable caretaker: he forgets his first student for a month, then leaves him with Nanami before either can object 19 21.
His concern for Geto can override his usual composure. After learning that Naomitsu met the wanted curse user, Gojo interrogates him and briefly accuses him of betrayal. Once Naomitsu explains that he tried to persuade Geto to turn back, Gojo regains control and tells him to stay out of the conflict 24.
Despite his casual manner, Gojo takes large-scale threats seriously. He initially wants immediate action against the barrier breaches, but accepts caution when Yaga explains that his loss could leave Honshu defenseless. By 2013, he shoulders the final confrontations for both major branches of Jujutsu Society’s emergency response 36 50.
Abilities & Skills
Six Eyes
Gojo was born with the Six Eyes alongside the ability to use Limitless 2.
- The novel attributes his apparently inexhaustible cursed energy to rapid replenishment through the Six Eyes rather than an unlimited maximum reserve 28.
- Naomitsu observes his reserves at approximately five million units of cursed energy 28.
Limitless
Gojo’s inherited technique provides defenses that Naomitsu cannot penetrate during their first encounter 19 20.
- Defensive application: Toad’s tongue stops three centimeters short of Gojo, who continues assessing Naomitsu without appearing concerned by the attack 20.
- Blue and Red: Named among the techniques Naomitsu associates with an advanced Gojo 4.
- Hollow Purple: Developed after his Reverse Cursed Technique awakening and used in his victory over Toji 10.
- Rapid output: Gojo can instantly unleash the level of cursed energy associated with Purple; chanting is still needed when he wants to increase its power 46.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Gojo masters Reverse Cursed Technique during the Star Plasma Vessel Incident, surviving Toji’s attack and subsequently killing him 5 10.
- Can use it to recover from cursed-technique burnout faster than Naomitsu, whose recovery takes roughly thirty seconds to a minute at that stage 39.
Domain Expansion
Unlimited Void is named as part of the advanced Gojo’s arsenal, though its internal effects are not described in the supplied passages 4.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Jujutsu High and the Star Plasma Vessel Incident
Gojo enters Tokyo Jujutsu High in 2005 alongside Suguru Geto and Shoko Ieiri. During the following year’s Star Plasma Vessel Incident, Toji kills Riko Amanai and seemingly kills Gojo. Gojo’s Reverse Cursed Technique awakening and development of Hollow Purple allow him to defeat Toji 1 5 10.
Naomitsu’s earlier agreement with Toji changes the aftermath: Toji does not entrust Megumi’s future to Gojo. Megumi and Tsumiki instead enter the Zenin household under Naomitsu’s care 10 11.
Naomitsu’s First Teacher in Tokyo
In his first year of teaching, Gojo takes four-year-old Naomitsu as his first student. Shoko’s mention of the boy and repeated comparisons to “the next Satoru Gojo” help draw his interest. Their introductory technique test establishes the gap between Naomitsu’s talent and Gojo’s defenses 19 20.
Gojo escorts Naomitsu to accommodation near Tokyo Jujutsu High’s affiliated junior high, tells him to seek Shoko if necessary, and leaves. After a month away on missions, he remembers Naomitsu and transfers his care to Nanami. Naomitsu subsequently spends a year training with both men 20 21 22.
When Naomitsu seeks a birthday present for his sisters, Gojo gives him school-issued glasses that allow someone without cursed energy to see cursed spirits. Naomitsu later presents them to Maki 23 25.
Geto’s Defection and Naomitsu’s Departure
Geto’s defection fractures his former friendship with Gojo and Shoko. Before returning to Kyoto to teach, Naomitsu meets Geto in an unsuccessful attempt to change his course. Gojo confronts Naomitsu afterward, then insists that he will handle Geto himself and that Naomitsu should concentrate on teaching 18 24.
Tengen’s Barrier Crisis
When Tengen reports breaches across Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu, Gojo offers to act. He is dissatisfied with the higher-ups’ decision to observe first, recognizing that the unprotected islands could rapidly become breeding grounds for cursed spirits. Yaga’s warning about the consequences of losing him persuades him to accept the cautious response 36.
Gojo later waits at Kyoto Jujutsu High for Naomitsu’s returning Hokkaido team. After hearing about the region’s overwhelming curse population, including roughly ten special-grade spirits, he suggests that he and Naomitsu can handle the threat. Naomitsu’s silence masks his unwillingness to volunteer 43.
Geto’s Apparent Death
Gojo and both school principals visit the Zenin estate after a short battle involving Geto ends with his body being taken away. Concerned that Naomitsu could be targeted next, they propose moving him to Tokyo Jujutsu High under Gojo’s protection. Naomitsu refuses 48.
Gojo follows him outside and asks about his final conversation with Geto. Naomitsu recounts the meeting but conceals his knowledge of Kenjaku, then suggests that Geto might merely be injured. Kenjaku’s subsequent appearance in Geto’s body confirms the truth to Naomitsu, not to Gojo 48.
The 2013 Crisis and Yuji Itadori
By 2013, sorcerers from multiple historical eras and increasing numbers of curses have overwhelmed Jujutsu Society. Gojo leads both the Exorcism Squad, which eliminates cursed spirits, and the Investigation Bureau, which gathers information on emerging curse users. He personally handles the targets identified by the latter, leaving little time to pursue Geto’s case 50.
After briefly fighting Sukuna in Sendai, Gojo brings ten-year-old Yuji Itadori to Naomitsu’s villa. He has already secured the higher-ups’ approval and asks Naomitsu to care for Yuji until the wider crisis is resolved 50.
Relationships
- Naomitsu Zenin — First student. Gojo recognizes his potential, shares teaching duties with Nanami, and later treats him as a possible partner against major threats. Naomitsu’s concealed dealings with Kenjaku make their bond fragile 19 22 43 48.
- Suguru Geto — Former classmate and close friend. His defection and apparent death remain deeply personal matters for Gojo 18 24 48.
- Shoko Ieiri — Former classmate. She draws Gojo’s attention to Naomitsu, and Gojo directs his student to her for help in Tokyo 1 19 20.
- Kento Nanami — Colleague entrusted with Naomitsu’s care. Nanami understands that Gojo’s neglect occurs while most dangerous missions fall to him 21.
- Utahime Iori — Fellow teacher who repeatedly challenges his treatment of Naomitsu and warns him not to bully the boy 23 24.
- Masamichi Yaga — Teacher who briefs him on Tengen’s barrier crisis and explains the strategic danger of sending him into an uncertain threat 36.
- Toji Fushiguro — Opponent during the Star Plasma Vessel Incident. His attack triggers Gojo’s awakening; Gojo subsequently kills him 5 10.
- Yuji Itadori — Sukuna’s young vessel, temporarily placed in Naomitsu’s care because Gojo is too busy to supervise him personally 50.
Notable Quotes
“Hey, little guy! Let me take you to Tokyo! I'll make you stronger! You're my very first student!” 19
“Naomitsu, I'll handle this when I get back. Don't get involved anymore. Just go back to Kyoto Jujutsu High and focus on teaching.” 24
Trivia
- Gojo ranks first on a curse-user assassination website, with a five-billion-yen bounty; Naomitsu ranks second 44.
- Utahime cites Gojo’s birth as an earlier disruption of the world’s balance, after which cursed spirits grew stronger. Bounty hunters use a similar claim to justify targeting Naomitsu 38.
- Yunmeng originally seeks Gojo’s help in Tokyo, but chooses Kyoto Jujutsu High after learning that he is rarely at school 47.
