Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Fifteen-finger Sukuna — initial Shibuya scenario 1 2 Kinoshita selects October 31, 2018 because this version is weaker than the later available opponents. Sukuna takes control of Itadori and fights Mahoraga.
Fifth finger consumed by Itadori — altered Shibuya route 5 Itadori eats the finger recovered from Nanako and Mimiko. He retains control of his body.
Sixteen-finger Sukuna — Megumi incarnation 21 22 Takes Megumi’s body and gains access to Ten Shadows. Megumi’s resisting soul leaves Sukuna’s output below one-tenth of normal immediately after possession.
Restoration to 80% of normal cursed-energy output 23 Declares a binding vow preventing future Domain Expansion in exchange for restored output. His body has also fully recovered before he resumes fighting Kashimo.
Temporary manifestation through Jogo — rollback route 32 33 Jogo consumes ten fingers as cursed-energy sources. Sukuna subsequently manifests through him, takes control, and crushes his heart; Jogo cannot support proper incarnation.
Sixteen-finger Sukuna — later Shibuya route 33 35 Removes the ten fingers from Jogo and feeds them to unconscious Itadori. Later appears in Itadori’s body at sixteen-finger strength.

Background

Sukuna is an ancient sorcerer whose reputation establishes him as the King of Curses and the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of the past thousand years. His fingers preserve portions of his soul: the ten consumed by Jogo contain half of it 21 33 35.

He seeks Megumi Fushiguro’s body primarily for Mahoraga’s adaptation. Sukuna considers that ability important for overcoming Satoru Gojo’s Limitless, while also valuing Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique and suitability for incarnation 23.

Sukuna and Kenjaku cooperate while using one another for their own objectives. Kinoshita identifies Sukuna’s survival as important to Kenjaku’s plan for ending the Culling Game 27.

Appearance

  • Itadori vessel: Appears as a pink-haired boy, with black facial markings distinguishing Sukuna’s control from Itadori’s 2 35.
  • Megumi vessel: Uses Megumi’s appearance to impersonate him and deceive Hana Kurusu 21.
  • Original body: Described as having two faces and four arms; Sukuna regrets lacking it while struggling against Kashimo in Megumi’s body 13 23 24.
  • Manifested mouth: A mouth appears on Jogo before Sukuna takes control of his body 33.

Personality

Sukuna is arrogant, capricious, and openly contemptuous of weaker opponents. He treats killing as entertainment: after approving Nanami’s answer to his challenge, he kills him anyway. Mahito’s desperate attempts to fight and flee likewise attract little concern 35 36.

His confidence does not prevent careful tactical analysis. He rapidly identifies the workings of Kinoshita’s replenishing metal armor and later recognizes that Blood Red compensates for the absence of a domain. Nevertheless, he rejects simply waiting for Kinoshita to exhaust himself as the approach of a loser, preferring to overpower him directly 24 38.

Humiliation can turn his amusement into personal fury. After Kinoshita tricks him with feces-filled balloons, Sukuna deploys Malevolent Shrine and Furnace together. He identifies Kinoshita as the person he most wants to kill after Gojo 39.

Abilities & Skills

Dismantle

Sukuna’s slashing technique cuts through opponents and buildings, causing widespread destruction 2 24.

  • Splits a towering building during his fight with Mahoraga; its falling rubble kills Kinoshita without Sukuna noticing him 2.
  • Answers Kashimo’s sure-hit electrical net with a matching grid of slashes, killing him despite sustaining serious injuries 24.
  • Breaks the outer shell of Mahito’s domain, forcing Mahito into cursed-technique burnout 35.
  • Uses faint, precisely timed slashes to repel hardened Blood Star Boulder projectiles on contact 38.

Eight-Cut

A stronger, touch-activated version of Dismantle created through a binding vow 25.

  • Requires physical contact with the target in exchange for greater cutting power 25.
  • Penetrates Kinoshita’s metal defense and mangles his internal organs 25.
  • Breaks through blood-red Insect Armor approaching half a meter in thickness 37.
  • Its contact requirement allows Kinoshita to predict Sukuna’s approach and retaliate with soul-damaging Deconstruction 25.

Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine

An open-barrier domain that fills its range with devastating slashes 26 36 39.

  • Overwhelms Mahito’s Self-Embodiment of Perfection almost instantly, including a second attempted expansion 36.
  • Kills Kinoshita in the Tokyo No. 1 Colony confrontation 25 26.
  • Covers a fifty-meter radius during Sukuna’s later Shibuya attack on Kinoshita 39.
  • Can combine its slashing destruction with Furnace’s effects on airborne dust 39.
  • Domain use risks subsequent cursed-technique burnout. While Megumi resists him, Sukuna doubts that deploying it would safely defeat Kashimo 23.

Furnace: Open

A flame technique that Sukuna can shape into a bow-and-arrow attack or sustain as streams of fire 33 38.

  • Burns Kinoshita and kills Nanako and Mimiko during Sukuna’s manifestation through Jogo 33.
  • Heats Kinoshita’s blood formation until it loses cohesion and Blood Red collapses 38 39.
  • Is powerful but comparatively slow without a domain, allowing Kinoshita to evade it at a distance 38.
  • A binding vow restricts its use outside Domain Expansion to one-on-one combat 39.
  • Within his domain, Sukuna imbues dust with Furnace’s cursed-energy effect, producing destructive explosions alongside the slashes 39.

Reverse Cursed Technique

Sukuna uses positive energy to repair severe injuries and counter poison 22 37 38.

  • Heals while fighting Kashimo, though his recovery is inefficient under Megumi’s resistance 22.
  • Repairs a facial wound in less than a second during his later Shibuya battle 37.
  • Uses healing while blocking Piercing Blood to protect Megumi 37.
  • Counters poison from Kinoshita’s blood attacks after it briefly slows his reactions 38.

Binding Vows

Sukuna manipulates restrictions and exchanges to strengthen techniques or restore combat effectiveness 23 24 25.

  • Restricts Eight-Cut to contact attacks for increased power 25.
  • Trades away future Domain Expansion for 80% of normal cursed-energy output while Megumi’s resistance already makes domain use hazardous 23 24.
  • Restricts Furnace outside his domain while enhancing its interaction with dust inside the domain 39.
  • Unresolved mechanics: Despite his declared domain restriction, Sukuna later expands Malevolent Shrine. Kinoshita’s post-death assessment attributes his defeat to Sukuna’s binding vow and likely domain modifications, but the exact workaround is not established 25 26.

Incarnation and Vessel Control

Sukuna can manifest through bodies that have consumed his fingers, but the host’s condition affects his control and output 21 22 33.

  • Takes temporary control of Itadori during Shibuya 1 35.
  • Possesses Itadori’s memories, giving him information about Jujutsu High sorcerers and Gojo 36.
  • Takes Megumi’s body but initially struggles against his resisting soul 21 22.
  • Briefly uses Jogo’s body, then rejects him as an unsuitable vessel and transfers the fingers to Itadori 33.

Ten Shadows Technique

Sukuna acquires Ten Shadows by taking Megumi’s body 21 23.

  • His central objective is access to Mahoraga’s adaptation, especially against Gojo’s Limitless 23.
  • Immediately after possession, he cannot use Mahoraga because he has not completed its taming ritual 21.
  • Kinoshita later determines that Higuruma’s confiscation removed Ten Shadows rather than Sukuna’s slashing technique 26.

Combat Analysis and Deception

Sukuna quickly reads unfamiliar defenses and exploits both technical weaknesses and emotional attachments 21 24 38 39.

  • Identifies repeated attacks on the same point, Domain Expansion, and energy exhaustion as possible counters to Kinoshita’s refreshing armor 24.
  • Recognizes Blood Red as a barrierless imitation of a domain and destroys it through sustained heating 38 39.
  • Impersonates Megumi after Jacob’s Ladder, thanking Hana to exploit her affection and draw her closer 21.

Items

  • Sukuna’s Fingers — Cursed objects containing portions of his soul. They enable his manifestation in vessels and can supply cursed spirits with additional cursed energy 2 32 33.
  • Three fingers carried by Uraume — Entrusted to Kenjaku for Sukuna during the battle with Kashimo. Their subsequent consumption is not documented 23.
  • No cursed tool during Deadly Sentencing — Kinoshita expects this to make Sukuna’s cursed technique the target of confiscation 25.

Relationships

  • Kinoshita — Recurring challenger and increasingly personal enemy. Kinoshita wounds Sukuna’s soul, exploits his interest in Megumi, and repeatedly seeks another attempt after defeat 25 37 39 47.
  • Yuji Itadori — Vessel and adversary. Sukuna habitually dismisses him, but acknowledges his improvement after their exchange in Megumi’s body 24 35.
  • Megumi Fushiguro — Desired vessel and source of Ten Shadows. Sukuna protects him during Shibuya; after possession, Megumi’s resistance sharply restricts Sukuna’s output 21 22 23 37.
  • Uraume — Devoted servant who works toward Sukuna’s revival and intervenes to buy him recovery time against Kashimo 12 13 23.
  • Kenjaku — Strategic ally with separate objectives. Their cooperation is described as mutually exploitative 23 27.
  • Hajime Kashimo — Ancient sorcerer reincarnated specifically to challenge Sukuna. Sukuna kills him and dismisses the encounter as forgettable 20 24.
  • Hana Kurusu / Angel — Threatened by Jacob’s Ladder. Sukuna exploits Hana’s affection for Megumi to deceive her 21.
  • Jogo — Seeks Sukuna’s revival, then consumes ten fingers himself in another route. Sukuna takes over his body and crushes his heart 4 32 33.
  • Hiromi Higuruma — Opponent whose courtroom domain convicts Sukuna of mass murder and imposes confiscation and a death sentence 25 26.
  • Satoru Gojo — Major intended opponent. Sukuna seeks Mahoraga’s adaptation to counter Limitless 23.
  • Mahito — Attempts to threaten Sukuna’s soul and challenge him with repeated domains, but is mutilated and overwhelmed 35 36.
  • Kento Nanami — Faces Sukuna calmly and identifies himself as human in opposition to a curse. Sukuna approves his answer but kills him 35.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Initial Shibuya Encounter

Sukuna is the opponent assigned to Kinoshita after his online boast that he could fight him. Kinoshita chooses Shibuya as the least dangerous available version, hoping to avoid combat until Itadori regains control 1.

The plan immediately fails. Kinoshita arrives near Megumi’s Mahoraga summoning, flees Sukuna’s ensuing battle, and dies beneath rubble produced by Dismantle 2.

Megumi’s Possession and the Tokyo No. 1 Colony Battle

Kinoshita attempts to exploit the brief period after Sukuna takes Megumi’s body. Jacob’s Ladder pressures Sukuna, but his impersonation of Megumi nearly deceives Hana before Kashimo interrupts 21.

Megumi’s resistance leaves Sukuna vulnerable to Mythical Beast Amber. Uraume and Kenjaku intervene, allowing Sukuna time to recover and declare his output-restoring binding vow. Sukuna then kills Kashimo and overwhelms Itadori, Panda, and Kugisaki’s follow-up assault 22 23 24.

Kinoshita’s Deconstruction damages Sukuna’s face and erases part of his soul. Higuruma’s arrival creates another apparent opening through confiscation and the Executioner’s Blade, but Sukuna expands Malevolent Shrine and kills Kinoshita. The subsequent assessment reveals that confiscation targeted Ten Shadows, not his slashes 25 26.

Renewed Shibuya Confrontation

After Kinoshita rolls back to Shibuya, Jogo consumes ten fingers and gains enough power to defeat Mahoraga. Sukuna manifests through Jogo, destroys his heart, attacks Kinoshita with Furnace, kills the sisters, and feeds the recovered fingers to Itadori 27 32 33.

Sukuna subsequently breaks Mahito’s domain, kills Nanami, and overwhelms Mahito’s repeated expansions with Malevolent Shrine. Kinoshita returns to intercept an attack on Kugisaki and attempts to occupy Sukuna until Itadori can regain control 35 36.

The battle shifts when Kinoshita repeatedly targets Megumi, forcing Sukuna to protect him. Sukuna eventually counters Blood Red with heat, pursues the fleeing Kinoshita, and responds to the balloon trick with Malevolent Shrine and Furnace. Kinoshita loses consciousness in the destruction 37 38 39.

Preparations for Another Challenge

Following two defeats, Kinoshita plans to assemble stronger allies, including Kashimo and Ryu Ishigori, and attack Sukuna while his domain-related binding vow creates an opening. He also seeks anti-domain training and Higuruma’s confiscation ability rather than relying on raw power alone 40 47 50.
