Background / History

Yuji attended Sugisawa Third High School in Sendai before becoming a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. After eating Sukuna’s Finger, he was found compatible with the cursed object and secretly sentenced to death. Satoru Gojo’s guarantee allowed him to survive that initial sentence 2.

Before meeting Choso in Shibuya, Yuji and Kugisaki had killed Eso and Kechizu. Their deaths made Yuji the target of Choso’s revenge. Kinoshita intervened by identifying Kenjaku as both the creator of the Death Painting brothers and Yuji’s mother through a former identity, presenting this shared parentage as the reason Yuji and Choso were brothers 2 3.

Appearance

Personality

Yuji’s first instinct is to protect others, even when he does not understand their intentions. Although Kinoshita knows suspiciously precise details about his life, Yuji immediately urges the apparent civilian to leave before Choso arrives. Protecting the ordinary people trapped in the station remains his stated objective during the confrontation 2 3.

He is unusually candid about his own actions. Facing Choso’s anger, Yuji admits killing his brothers and insists that Choso direct his grievance at him rather than Kinoshita. He repeats that admission even after Choso recognizes him as family, unwilling to accept protection without acknowledging what happened 3 5.

His straightforward thinking can produce naïve conclusions: he initially wonders whether Jogo’s ten fingers are meant to help seal Sukuna. Nevertheless, he accepts Kinoshita’s warning once he understands that losing control could endanger Shibuya’s civilians 4.

Yuji’s anger is particularly fierce toward enemies who disregard human life. He pursues Mahito relentlessly, condemns his cruelty, and fights to avenge Nanami. His determination later centers on forcing Sukuna to return Megumi’s body 9 10 24.
