Background / History

In his previous life, Megumi’s surname was changed from Zenin to Fushiguro when he was three, and he was sent to live with his stepmother, Fushiguro Tomomi, and her daughter, Tsumiki. Tomomi repeatedly stood beside his bed at night, stroked his face with her nails, and remarked on his resemblance to Toji. He began avoiding her attention and leaving the house until Tsumiki found him. After Tomomi abandoned both children, Tsumiki remained the only person he acknowledged as family 16.

Tsumiki fell unconscious because of a curse when Megumi was thirteen. At fifteen, he fought in the Shibuya Incident, where memories of Gojo’s sealing and Nanami’s death preceded his desperate confrontation with Haruta Shigemo. He remembers attempting to sacrifice himself to take his enemy down with him and believes he died in that battle 16 17.

Megumi subsequently awakens in his two-year-old body in 2004. He initially suspects a domain, a cursed technique, or memories passing before death. Seeing the living Toji—whom he remembers witnessing kill himself in Shibuya—convinces him that he has truly returned to childhood 16.

Appearance

Megumi has deep-ocean-blue eyes and a toddler’s small stature in the returned timeline 15 16.

  • Height: Barely eighty centimeters when he first becomes aware of his return 16.
  • Childlike features: His round face becomes flushed during his fever 20.
  • Visible exhaustion: Dark circles develop beneath his eyes during prolonged sleeplessness 17.
  • Defensive posture: When threatened, he hunches slightly and overlaps his hands in gestures Yuanli initially does not understand 15 17.

Personality

Megumi is reserved, perceptive, and sensitive to feelings that others leave unspoken. When he first encounters Yuanli, he recognizes her concealed distress and tells her not to cry, hoping to keep her from leaving. He generally expresses affection through practical gestures rather than explanations: leaving warm coffee outside her door, shielding her ears during turbulence, and offering help despite his physical limitations 15 16 39.

His independence is partly defensive. He refuses help with eating, tries to contribute to chores, and worries that his slow pace makes him a burden. Tomomi’s treatment left him wary of women, prolonged attention, and unexpected touch; Yuanli’s respect for his boundaries gradually allows him to accept affection 16 17 18.

Megumi also assumes an excessive responsibility for preventing future tragedies. He prioritizes saving Tsumiki and changing Shibuya, sometimes overlooking Yuanli’s immediate distress. Yuanli challenges his tendency to assume the worst outcome and stake everything on a desperate sacrifice, encouraging him to create alternatives instead 25 35 41.

Abilities & Skills

Ten Shadows Technique

Megumi possesses the Ten Shadows Technique, which Yuanli deliberately conceals from the Zenin Clan 35.

  • Remembers using the Divine Dogs, but cannot summon them immediately after returning to childhood 16.
  • Uses the Ochre Giant Bird to reach Yuanli during her suicide attempt 26.
  • His early attempts to defend Yuanli fail because his toddler body cannot produce cursed energy at that point 16.
  • Yuanli suspects his later overexertion may involve attempts to tame the Ten Shadows, but this is not confirmed 40.

Jujutsu Knowledge

Megumi retains knowledge acquired during his previous life as a sorcerer 16 29.

  • Explains cursed energy, cursed spirits, sorcerers, and Heavenly Restriction to Yuanli 29.
  • Describes the Zenin Clan’s prejudice toward Toji, Maki, and Maki’s sister 29.
  • Supplies information about the Shibuya Incident and people he considers important to changing the future 41 45.

Observation and Reasoning

His guarded upbringing sharpened his attention to expressions and behavior 16.

  • Notices Yuanli’s emotional pain even when she denies crying 16.
  • Reconstructs parts of her political strategy against the Zenin Clan through questions and deductions 35.
  • Recognizes the red house across from Fudodo Park as a crucial location during the confrontation with Tomomi 36.

Martial-Arts Training

Megumi attends martial-arts training after the family returns to Japan. Yuanli supports this arrangement after attempts to have Toji train him lead to conflict 50.

  • Makoto Kyogoku looks after him at the school 50.
  • His training is characterized by intense discipline, though no specific martial art or proficiency level is given 50.

Limitations

  • Toddler physiology: Limited stamina, reach, and finger control complicate even ordinary tasks; pouring coffee burns his fingertips 16.
  • Traumatic memories: Nightmares and battlefield flashbacks disrupt sleep and his awareness of the present 17.
  • Overtraining: Forced cursed-energy development causes severe internal pain and coughing of blood 36 40.
  • Incomplete recall: Memories of important dates and circumstances are too hazy to provide a reliable prevention timetable 45.

Relationships

  • Yuanli — Biological older sister. Initially unfamiliar and difficult for him to trust, she earns his confidence by respecting his independence and asking permission before touching him. He later acknowledges her as family and offers to become her steadfast “shield” and sole partner 16 25 41.
  • Toji Zenin / Toji Fushiguro — Father. Megumi’s hostility stems from the previous timeline, including Toji selling him to the clan for one billion. He eventually agrees that the current Toji deserves another chance, but their attempts to train together still end in conflict 25 26 50.
  • Yuanyin — Biological mother, who died from illness shortly before his return. He initially does not recognize her name when Yuanli explains who she was 15.
  • Tsumiki Fushiguro — Older stepsister in his previous life and the first person he accepted as family. Her curse-induced unconsciousness is a major reason he wants to change the future 16 17 25.
  • Fushiguro Tomomi — Stepmother in his previous life. Her frightening nighttime attention shapes his aversion to touch; encountering her again triggers intense panic 16 36.
  • Satoru Gojo — Previous-life teacher and the person Megumi trusts most. Gojo paid another billion to acquire him after Toji’s sale, and his sealing remains central to Megumi’s memories of Shibuya 17 25 41.
  • Maki Zenin — Previous-life upperclassman. Megumi distinguishes their school relationship from family ties despite their shared clan ancestry 25 29.
  • Makoto Kyogoku — Looks after Megumi at his martial-arts school 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Returning to Childhood and Learning Trust

  • Yuanli notices an abrupt change in her two-year-old brother: he becomes self-sufficient, distant, and wary of both her and Toji 15.
  • Megumi mistakes a cooking accident for an attack on Yuanli and tries to defend her, even biting Toji when he cannot use cursed energy 15 16.
  • A late-night conversation reveals his fifteen-year-old consciousness. He accepts Yuanli’s brief, permission-based hug 16.
  • Yuanli helps ground him during a Shibuya flashback and gives him room to make choices rather than taking over 17.
  • After admitting that he wants to grow up quickly to avoid burdening her, he accepts her promise that both his body and his remembered self deserve time and care 18.

Recognizing Yuanli as Family

  • Toji’s disappearance exposes the divide between Megumi’s attachment to his previous-life family and Yuanli’s need for belonging 24.
  • Yuanli gives him bank cards totaling two billion, to be split evenly with Toji. Unlike the earlier billion-price transactions surrounding him, her gift demands no service or obligation 24 25.
  • Megumi realizes he has already begun treating her as family and pursues her to reject the farewell 25.
  • He reaches her on the Ochre Giant Bird, diverts her gun, and apologizes for leaving her alone. Their reconciliation leads him to reconsider judging the current Toji solely by his previous-life actions 26.

The Zenin Clan and Tomomi

  • Megumi explains the clan’s hierarchy to Yuanli and accompanies her into the estate. She secures an agreement protecting the secrecy of his technique 29 30.
  • His request that Yuanli not kill anyone constrains her methods against the clan 33.
  • After the estate is confiscated, he feels that the seemingly unavoidable timeline has begun to change 35 36.
  • Seeing Toji with Tomomi undermines that hope and revives his fear of abandonment. Yuanli intervenes, while Megumi supplies the location connected to Tomomi’s captives 36.

Hawaii and Mutual Protection

  • Megumi quietly comforts Yuanli during the flight, but continues concealing his own anxiety and dangerous training 39 40.
  • A beachside episode of coughing blood prompts Yuanli to seek a more equal relationship in which both can share their troubles 40.
  • After hearing her history, Megumi confesses his return and his determination to prevent Shibuya. He offers to stand before her as a shield; she accepts and promises protection in return 41.
  • Their growing security extends to a peaceful family evening with Toji, during which Megumi eagerly agrees to go sea fishing 43.

Planning a Different Future

  • The family moves from Kanagawa to Tokyo for Megumi. He and Yuanli compare his memories, but cannot reliably establish dates for the events they hope to prevent 45.
  • They consider whether others might also possess previous-life memories. Megumi recognizes that such people could be either allies or more dangerous enemies 45.
  • His description identifies Suguru Geto as the feared figure from his memories, prompting Yuanli to target Geto despite Megumi’s wishes 45.
  • Megumi continues preparing physically through martial-arts training, while Yuanli avoids forcing closeness between him and Toji 50.
