Background / History
Gojo was born into the Gojo Clan and inherited both Limitless and the Six Eyes. The Six Eyes appear only once every few centuries, making him his generation’s rare bearer of the trait needed to use Limitless 5 7.
As a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High, he seeks to replace the conservative leadership through education. Rather than simply killing the higher-ups, he wants to raise strong, intelligent allies capable of taking their places and changing Jujutsu Society itself 12.
Appearance
Gojo is described as handsome and exceptionally tall, with brilliant blue eyes usually concealed by a black blindfold 5 18.
- Eyes: Azure, described as veiled in a white haze when he reveals them before using Unlimited Void 18.
- Blindfold: Lifts one corner to inspect unfamiliar powers and removes it before major techniques 5 18 49.
- Posture: Frequently stands with both hands in his pockets, including while observing dangerous opponents 5 7 18.
Personality
Gojo is playful, boastful, and highly confident in his strength. He treats Jogo’s ambush as an opportunity to impress Itsuki, then turns it into a lesson for Yuji when Itsuki declines to stay. Even against Sukuna at full strength, he maintains that he would win; this remains a claim rather than a demonstrated victory in the provided chapters 6 18.
His teasing often doubles as a test of his students. He briefly suggests that Yuji could stay at school while others retrieve Sukuna’s fingers, then reveals that fighting will be unavoidable. He also takes open pride in his students’ power, joking that Itsuki and Yuta give him two Special Grade sorcerers to his credit 7 8.
Despite his irreverence, Gojo protects his students and challenges decisions that endanger them. He accepts Megumi’s personal plea to spare Yuji, suspects the higher-ups engineered the detention-center mission, and welcomes Yuji and Megumi’s requests for further training 5 12.
He recognizes Itsuki’s troubling attitude without reducing it to simple bloodlust: in Gojo’s view, Itsuki treats life like a game, considers nothing off-limits, and seeks interesting experiences 12.
Abilities & Skills
Six Eyes
The Six Eyes are a rare inherited Gojo Clan trait that enables the extraordinarily precise cursed-energy control required for Limitless 7.
- Appear only once every few centuries; Gojo is the current generation’s bearer 7.
- Are exposed when he removes his blindfold before Unlimited Void and Hollow Purple 18 49.
Limitless
Limitless is the Gojo Clan’s inherited cursed technique, described as controlling space and manipulating matter on an atomic level 7.
- Requires exceptionally precise cursed-energy control and the Six Eyes to use 7.
- Its applications include his neutral defense, Blue, Red, and Hollow Purple 7 49.
Infinity / Stopping Force
The neutral application of Limitless prevents approaching threats from reaching Gojo. He calls it Stopping Force when demonstrating it to Itsuki and describes it as the “infinity” between himself and Jogo 7 18.
- Assesses approaching objects by factors including cursed energy, mass, and speed, then stops or repels them 7.
- Slows Itsuki’s reaching hand to a complete stop despite his increasing physical effort 7.
- Leaves Gojo unharmed by Jogo’s explosions and apparent direct strikes 18.
- Limit: A domain’s guaranteed-hit technique can reach him despite Infinity; Gojo confirms this and counters Jogo through active defense and his own domain 18.
Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void
Unlimited Void overwhelms its target with an endless stream of information, leaving the victim unable to act despite perceiving everything 19.
- Overpowers Jogo’s Coffin of the Iron Mountain and halts its advancing magma 19.
- Immobilizes Jogo long enough for Gojo to tear off his head and attempt an interrogation 19.
- Demonstrates Gojo’s explanation that, in a domain clash, the more refined technique dominates the space 18 19.
Blue, Red, and Hollow Purple
Gojo combines Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue and Cursed Technique Reversal: Red to produce Hollow Purple, an attack known to few even within his clan 49.
- Overlapping Blue and Red generates imaginary mass that can be launched outward 49.
- Manifests as a long-range, wide-diameter energy wave capable of cutting through space 49.
- Leaves smooth-edged circular gaps along its path and devastates the Goodwill Event battlefield 49.
- Badly injures Hanami, but does not prevent her from escaping underground 49.
Combat and Instruction
Gojo combines overwhelming close-combat ability with practical demonstrations of jujutsu 7 18.
- Beats Jogo at close range before using his domain 18.
- Explains domain construction, energy costs, guaranteed hits, and domain clashes to Yuji during the battle 18.
- Helps Itsuki learn to imitate cursed-energy fluctuations despite Itsuki lacking ordinary cursed energy 8.
- Entrusts Yuji and Itsuki to Nanami for the movie-theater investigation 26.
Known Counters and Strategic Vulnerabilities
- Hanami’s flowers: Briefly weaken Gojo’s will to fight. He snaps himself out of the effect, but protecting Yuji allows Hanami to escape with Jogo 19.
- Targeted Curtain: The Goodwill Event attackers create a barrier that excludes Gojo alone while allowing everyone else to pass, temporarily keeping him outside 45.
- Prison Realm plan: The enemy intends to seal him in Shibuya on October 31. The planner occupying Geto’s body expects Geto’s appearance to make Gojo freeze long enough to satisfy the required minute within his mental world. This sealing is planned, not shown occurring in the provided chapters 17 34.
Equipment / Items
- Black blindfold — Covers his eyes; he lifts or removes it when inspecting unusual abilities or preparing major techniques 5 18 49.
- Slaughter Demon — Cursed tool he gives Yuji for the abandoned-building exercise, with instructions not to release Sukuna 8.
Relationships
- Yuji Itadori — Student and Sukuna’s vessel. Gojo obtains a suspended execution sentence, guides his training, and protects him during the encounter with Jogo and Hanami 5 6 18 19.
- Megumi Fushiguro — Student whose personal request persuades Gojo to protect Yuji and extend consideration to Itsuki. Gojo later welcomes his determination to train 5 12.

- Nobara Kugisaki — First-year student. Gojo tests her and Yuji against curses in an abandoned building and includes her in his appeal to develop strong successors 8 12.
- Yuta Okkotsu — Special Grade student whom Gojo cites alongside Itsuki as evidence of his success as a teacher 8.
- Masamichi Yaga — Tokyo Jujutsu High’s principal. Their familiar banter includes Yaga reprimanding Gojo’s habitual lateness 6.
- Kento Nanami — Trusted colleague whom Gojo relies on to mentor students. Nanami says he trusts and relies on Gojo, but does not respect him 26.
- Utahime Iori — Colleague he asks to investigate possible collusion on Kyoto’s side. His teasing has irritated her since their teenage years 40.
- Yoshinobu Gakuganji — Conservative leader Gojo challenges over the emerging generation of powerful students 20.
- Jogo — Enemy whom Gojo decisively defeats and attempts to question about the organized curse threat 18 19.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Recruiting Yuji and Itsuki
Gojo arrives at Sugisawa Third High School to investigate the missing Sukuna finger and finds Itsuki fighting Sukuna. After hearing Megumi’s appeal and confirming Yuji can voluntarily regain control, he agrees to protect both newcomers 5.
He postpones Yuji’s execution by proposing that Yuji consume all twenty fingers before being killed, taking Sukuna down with him. He then brings Yuji and Itsuki to Tokyo Jujutsu High for their admissions interviews 6.
Detention-Center Aftermath
Absent during the detention-center mission, Gojo suspects the higher-ups deliberately sent the first-years into lethal danger because he had sought protection for Yuji and recognition for Itsuki. His anger gives way to an explanation of his long-term educational reform plan when the students ask to become stronger 9 12.
Jogo’s Ambush
Gojo turns Jogo’s attack into a live lesson for Yuji, demonstrates Infinity, and wins the domain clash with Unlimited Void. Hanami interrupts his interrogation and escapes with Jogo while Gojo saves Yuji from roots. The cooperation between powerful curses prompts him to urge his students to grow strong enough to defeat Jogo themselves 18 19.
Goodwill Event Attack and Aftermath
Before the event, Gojo asks Utahime to investigate a suspected insider connected to curses or curse users. During the attack, a Curtain specifically excludes him, so he sends Utahime and Gakuganji inside to protect the students 40 45.
Once the Curtain falls, he attacks the retreating Hanami with Hollow Purple. Afterward, he joins the discussion about continuing the interrupted event and reveals that the remaining competition will be baseball rather than individual fights 49 50.
