The supplies, which were distributed last, also made up the largest share.
Yet they were the quickest to divide.
According to the ratio they had agreed on earlier, Chen Ye received only twenty percent, but the supplies before him still formed a small mountain.
The surrounding survivors could not hide the envy and greed in their eyes. If not for their fear of the Sequence Transcendents, some would probably have already made a move.
Chen Ye adjusted the Woodcutter's Knife and Hand Crossbow at his waist.
Nana gave a cold snort and rested her hand on the hilt of the longsword at her waist. Her gaze swept over those itching to act, and the unrest quickly subsided.
As a transcendent at stage 2 of the Sword Immortal Series, the Blade-Unsheathed Realm, she needed only a single look to rob ordinary people of all their courage!
"Chen Ye, park your vehicle next to mine later!"
Nana spoke to Chen Ye in a low voice.
Chen Ye nodded slightly.
Before the apocalypse, these supplies would have been worth little. Even piled up in the street, they would not have earned a second glance.
Now, however, they were worth a mountain of gold.
Chen Ye rode his Motor Tricycle over and cleared a space in its cargo bed before loading all the supplies into it.
The cargo bed, which had looked rather empty before, was filled in an instant.
At this point, less than half an hour remained until the Vehicle Canopy upgrade was complete.
Old Li also brought two people down from the bus to pack up Iron Lion's share. Chen Ye watched the survivors secure those supplies to the roof of the bus.
Chu Che and Nana did the same, adding more supplies to the roofs of their modified off-road vehicles.
The sun slowly sank toward the horizon. Its dusky light spilled over the dunes, turning them into a golden ocean.
If someone could have taken a photo of that beautiful sight and posted it on social media, it would surely have earned plenty of likes.
Unfortunately, since the apocalypse began, most electronic devices had become bricks once their batteries ran out.
On the other side of the sky, a Blood Moon had already risen. Blood-red light replaced the desert's golden ocean, lending the entire desert an eerie, unsettling air.
The temperature kept dropping. Chen Ye took a jacket from the cargo bed and put it on, then changed into slightly thicker trousers. Only then did he feel more comfortable.
Some survivors had already started making dinner.
Although Longevity Village had lost quite a few people, the convoy was not short on supplies for the time being.
The aroma of food drifted over the dunes, adding a hint of sweetness to the air, while chatter filled his ears.
Chen Ye made a show of working on his vehicle to conceal whatever happened when the upgrade finished.
After all, everyone else believed he was a transcendent of the Mechanic Sequence.
Fifteen minutes remained until the upgrade was complete.
Chen Ye propped several wooden poles in the cargo bed, took apart a few pairs of jeans, and put together a makeshift tent.
By now, the faint light on the horizon was growing dimmer, and Chen Ye had chosen his parking spot carefully.
Unless someone deliberately paid attention to him, they would not be able to make out what he was doing.
The survivors were already gathered around their campfires, talking and eating. No one was paying any attention to what Chen Ye was doing.
The fifteen minutes passed in the blink of an eye.
He watched the countdown turn to "0."
The scene before Chen Ye's eyes seemed to shimmer with unreality. The pair of women's jeans in his hands vanished, along with all the other women's clothes in the cargo bed.
After a moment's daze, Chen Ye realized he was now inside a partially enclosed space.
He had been able to see the nearby campfire before, but a patchwork fabric wall now blocked his view.
Just like that... it was done?
Delight flickered across Chen Ye's face. Suppressing his sense of accomplishment, he climbed straight out of the cargo bed.
By the faint light still lingering on the horizon, Chen Ye saw a completely different Motor Tricycle.
A patchwork canopy had been added over the cargo bed. It had a distinctive look, stitched together from pairs of jeans and T-shirts.
Chen Ye even spotted a piece of women's underwear among them.
This was simply... an affront to decency!
Not only that, the canopy extended over the cargo bed, covering the space above it and forming a small sunshade.
The Motor Tricycle now looked much like a delivery vehicle from before the apocalypse.
Before the apocalypse, delivery workers had ridden electric tricycles like this through streets and alleys every day, their cargo beds filled with parcels.
Before the apocalypse, this would have been nothing more than a delivery tricycle.
But now, in Chen Ye's eyes, it was the best vehicle in the world.
The more he looked at it, the more he liked it!
He had the system, and an upgrade could finish anytime, anywhere.
Now that there was an enclosed space at the back, Chen Ye could place supplies in the cargo bed whenever he wanted to upgrade them, without worrying about anyone seeing and causing unnecessary trouble.
The canopy also provided shade, protecting him from the scorching sun during the day.
At night, he could sleep in the cargo bed. At least it would be much better than sleeping out in the open.
Chen Ye's eyes shone. He was one step closer to his dream of an Apocalypse Base Vehicle.
"Wow! Chen Ye, is this your new ride?"
Just then, an exaggerated exclamation of admiration came from behind him.
At the sound of that voice, Chen Ye felt cold all over.
Wait!
When did she get here?
What did she see?
What should I do?
Run?
Or...
Chen Ye turned around stiffly. The first thing he saw was a pair of absurdly long legs, slender and fair. Calling them legs he could admire for a year would not have been an exaggeration.
The girl held a can of beer, with a longsword hanging at her waist. He could not make out her expression.
It was Nana, the Long-Legged Girl!
"Nana... did you need me?"
Chen Ye's voice sounded a little dry.
"Pfft! Heeheehee..."
Seeing how nervous Chen Ye was, the girl instantly understood why.
This man usually looked so shrewd and calculating, yet now he was being so adorable.
The girl doubled over with laughter, her long legs swaying distractingly.
Her laughter only made Chen Ye more uneasy.
This woman...
"Heeheehee..."
"Chen Ye, what's with that look? Don't tell me you think I saw your secret and you need to kill me to keep me quiet!"
"Heehee... Ye, you're hilarious!"
"Look at the times we're living in! Humanity's almost gone!"
"What Sequence Transcendent doesn't have a few secrets? You're killing me!"
"Heeheehee..."
Chen Ye: "..."
"Relax. Every Sequence Transcendent has secrets. Captain Chu does, Iron Lion does, and so do I!"
"This little thing of yours hardly counts as anything!"
"I just didn't expect the Mechanic Sequence to be so amazing!"
Holding her can of beer in one hand, the girl walked over and examined the three-wheeled delivery vehicle from top to bottom, clicking her tongue in wonder.
"Tsk, tsk..."
"It used to be a bicycle. How long has it even been? I never thought it could turn into something like this!"
"Looks like the Mechanic Sequence is much more powerful than I imagined!"
Chen Ye stood to one side, at a loss for words.
"If anyone can survive the apocalypse, Chen Ye, you'll be one of them!"
Her voice grew somewhat somber as she said that.
But that somberness lasted only a second. Soon, her voice was bright and lively again, as though she had never said those words.
The girl turned and looked at Chen Ye with her large, bright eyes.
"By the way, where's your booze? I'll trade you cigarettes for it!"
