Background / History
Killua grows up in the Zoldyck estate, where his parents expect him to become the family’s finest assassin. Intensive physical training gives him exceptional endurance, bodily control, and precision; childhood electric-shock trials later provide the foundation for his electrical Nen 29 42 56.
Illumi’s control makes Killua fear that friendship will endanger others. Killua eventually runs away because he is tired of life at home, entering the Hunter Exam for amusement rather than a stated professional ambition 27 43.
Appearance
Killua is a fair-skinned, white-haired boy with a slender but sturdy physique. His initially languid expression and casual smile contrast with the threatening presence of a trained assassin 27 42.
- First outfit: Blue long-sleeved shirt and black shorts 27.
- Training attire: Black clothes, shown soaked with sweat during his return to the estate 42.
- Visible injuries: Fresh facial wounds during assassin training; later suffers wounds to his arms, flank, and back while fighting Meleoron 42 94.
- Electrical aura: Blue currents appear at his fingertips and can coil around his entire body during high-output combat 56 101.
Personality
Killua presents himself as carefree, aloof, and occasionally smug, but his early behavior conceals loneliness and a desire for freedom. He studies unfamiliar people carefully: on meeting Lin Ye, he recognizes a lethal presence resembling that of his own family and responds with curiosity rather than immediate trust 27.
His composure in battle contrasts sharply with his initial terror of Illumi. At the estate, he pretends to reject Gon and Lin Ye because he fears his brother will kill them. Their support helps him openly reject the assassin role imposed on him, though he remains embarrassed by displays of affection even while crying with relief 37 43.
Killua usually supplies caution where Gon supplies enthusiasm. He warns against reckless attacks on the Chimera Ants, yet willingly risks himself when his companions need protection. His decision to confront Youpi is tactical rather than a belief that he can win through strength alone 91 93 101.
His sharp tongue persists as he becomes more secure among friends. He dismisses Biscuit’s claim that her training deserves the credit for their victory and later bluntly criticizes Ging for neglecting Gon 86 127.
Abilities & Skills
Assassination and Physical Conditioning
- Precision strikes: Disables fleeing ambushers by striking their nerves; knocks Bodoro unconscious with a neck strike in less than a second 29 38.
- Speed and footwork: Easily outmaneuvers ordinary arena fighters and combines assassin movement with Nen-enhanced acceleration 45 56.
- Endurance: Keeps pace during the eighty-kilometer Hunter Exam run without visible strain 29.
- Trap recognition: Spots concealed jungle traps through experience gained from family training 27.
- Knife proficiency: Butchers Great Stamp meat with exceptional accuracy during the culinary trial 31.
- Pain tolerance: Continues maintaining Heavenly Lock despite severe bodily strain, drawing on the conditioning endured since childhood 103.
Nen Fundamentals
Killua’s Transmutation talent is paired with unusually fine bodily control, allowing rapid progress once he receives systematic instruction 44 49.
- Ten: Stabilizes aura and protects his body; maintaining it during rapid movement is a recurring training priority 44 45 71.
- Zetsu: Conceals his presence by suppressing aura, a technique he quickly grasps through his assassin background 44.
- Ren: Increases aura output and helps him disrupt Lia’s control during their arena match 47.
- Shu and Ryu: Reinforce his combat applications and redistribute aura smoothly between attack and defense 50 75.
- Limit: Sustained high-speed movement can consume Nen wastefully unless his aura remains synchronized with his body 49 71.
Gale
Gale combines Transmutation Nen with Killua’s existing speed and precision 48.
- Concentrates aura beneath his feet to accelerate movement and leave afterimages 48.
- Forms small fingertip aura blades for attacks on vital points 48.
- Can strike distant markers precisely with tiny air blades 49.
- Combines with Electric Shock to deliver paralysis through unpredictable movement 56.
- Does not automatically overcome strong defenses: his blades initially fail to pierce Marcus’s Iron Wall, though they destabilize its Nen 48.
Electric Shock and Electrical Nen
Killua changes his aura’s properties into electricity, drawing on his ability to withstand electrical shocks 56.
- Paralysis: Numbs opponents and interrupts attacks; disables Gatton’s wrist before he can sustain a Nen Bullet 56.
- Nen disruption: Electrical strikes can throw an enemy’s aura into disarray 92.
- Electricity Sword: Forms a long blade of current to penetrate vulnerable joints 92 93.
- Electrical needles: Targets Youpi’s joints and eyes to slow his movements 101.
- Detection: Senses faint electrical fluctuations produced by Meleoron despite his concealed Nen 93.
- Recovery: Uses fine electrical Nen threads around his back wound to repair muscles and meridians while keeping watch 96.
- Limits: Ant officers’ shells can insulate against electricity. Meleoron’s prolonged ambushes also force Killua to expend current rapidly 92 94.
Electricity: Heavenly Lock
Heavenly Lock releases electrical Nen as chains that bind a target’s limbs and torso within a cage 101.
- Immobilizes Youpi and disrupts his Nen, preventing him from interfering with Lin Ye’s fight 101.
- Requires roughly ten seconds of preparation, during which Gon keeps Shaiapouf occupied 101.
- Releases all of Killua’s electrical Nen at once, leaving him pale, shaking, and under tremendous strain 101.
- Is not unbreakable: Youpi eventually tears the weakening chains apart, leaving Killua exhausted and unable to dodge 103.
