Background / History
Shrek Academy is a major continental academy based in Shrek City, a crossroads near the Star Dou Great Forest. Shrek City has a population in the millions and serves as a hub for the Douluo Plane. The academy is described as neutral rather than aligned with any single state, while its influence draws talented students and resources from across the continent. 51 370
Its public prestige rests heavily on its elite Inner Courtyard and the Sea God Pavilion. The academy’s tournament teams are regarded as the continent’s benchmark; even when its principal team is badly injured, other academies view defeating Shrek as a career-defining achievement. 24 132 148
The academy accepts students through assessments and maintains separate Martial Soul and Soul Guidance departments. A prospective student with at least four levels of Innate Soul Power and a recommendation from Ma Xiaotao can qualify for admission. 2 51
Su Wen is brought into Shrek’s sphere after disciples led by Zhang Lexuan rescue him in the Star Dou Great Forest. Following the awakening of his Beastmaster-type Martial Soul and Innate Full Soul Power, Xuan Zi personally invites him to join; the Sea God Pavilion considers him a strategically vital talent and prioritizes his cultivation. 1 3

Training and Education
Shrek’s traditional training is criticized as effective only below Level 40 and overly reliant on crude physical conditioning, such as weighted running and push-ups. It lacks dedicated body-cultivation techniques capable of fully developing physical potential. 25
After witnessing the consequences of poorly prepared Inner Courtyard students facing Evil Spirit Masters, Su Wen restructures Surveillance Group training. His program combines practical combat with intensive theory, including terrain, geography, Soul Beast knowledge, and obscure Evil Spirit Master Martial Souls. 264 272
- Surveillance Group trainees are expected to face Evil Spirit Masters in life-or-death situations. 264
- Wang Yan’s theory course begins at six in the morning and runs for four hours daily. 264
- The Mingdou Mountain Range trial ground recreates a past Shrek disaster to force students to understand the danger of underestimating powerful enemies. 272
- The academy can organize Soul Beast-hunting opportunities, a major draw for students unable to safely enter the Star Dou Great Forest on their own. 262
Reforms under Su Wen
After becoming Sea God Pavilion Master, Su Wen proposes reforms intended to make Shrek more accessible to commoners. Some elders oppose the changes, but yield after he demonstrates overwhelming strength and decisiveness. 346
His wider program seeks to correct Shrek’s failures in student protection and education. He openly states that the academy must stop sending young people to their deaths and that the Surveillance Group should become a force that quietly guards both Shrek and continental stability. 264 269
- Advocates development of the Soul Guidance Department despite its cost. 171
- Supports forging as a complementary discipline with future value, particularly for Battle Armor production. 171
- Implements a more rigorous theory-and-combat curriculum for Inner Courtyard disciples. 264
- Promotes human–Soul Beast contracts beginning with Shrek Academy, alongside the establishment of the Spirit Pagoda. 369
- Seeks greater institutional influence across the continent, prompting comparisons to Martial Soul Hall. 373 408
Controversies and Criticism
Despite its prestige, Shrek is repeatedly depicted as suffering from institutional decay, elder politics, and inadequate protection of its younger generation. Mu En admits that Gu Yuena’s accusation that Shrek is “rotten to the core” is justified. 116
The academy’s elders are criticized for protecting internal interests over students. During Yuan En Yehui’s case, they consider using Mind Control to uncover the source of her Battle Armor and discuss expelling her after Le Zhengyu publicly labels her an Evil Spirit Master. 402
External factions also resent Shrek’s position above national powers. Star Luo officials argue that the academy absorbs each country’s best talent while remaining politically neutral and refusing to commit its strength to the front lines. 370
- Xuan Zi’s late arrival during the Star Dou Great Forest mission leaves Shrek disciples injured and Su Wen’s Martial Soul shattered; Mu En promises severe punishment. 12 13
- The academy’s response to threats against prodigies is contrasted unfavorably with the Soul Beast world’s protection of the Auspicious Beast. 116
- Shrek’s elders oppose or obstruct reform, with some portrayed as believing internal status protects them from consequences. 346 359
- Budget cuts leave students such as Yuan En Yehui unable to afford Battle Armor materials. 399
- Critics characterize Shrek and the Tang Sect as independent power blocs with their own guards and military influence. 429
