Background / History

The empire's rise as a soul-tool power was tied in part to the Evil Emperor. Gu Yuena states that the Evil Emperor's arrival helped advance the empire beyond its earlier primitive state; it became the national totem, and its likeness was used for the imperial emblem. 187

The Sun Moon Empire developed a long-running rivalry with the powers of the Original Continent, especially neighboring Star Luo. Although officially hostile, corrupt military elements on both sides conducted covert trade. Shrek Academy suspected the empire of providing the foundation that allowed Evil Spirit Masters to organize into a genuine force. 94 128

Before the exchange program with Shrek Academy, some court officials proposed detaining or executing Su Wen upon his arrival in Ming City. The emperor rejected those proposals, while Jing Hongchen hoped instead to recruit Su Wen into Mingde Hall. 171 173

The policy changed after Su Wen became a threat to imperial interests. The empire planned to intercept him near Maple Leaf City with the Royal Soul Engineer Legion and Holy Spirit Cult support, then later assembled a major naval encirclement at West Sea Port under Ye Xishui. Su Wen survived the attack by faking his death and escaping with his companions. 213 226 228

The imperial family concealed Su Wen's survival while privately spreading news of his supposed death, hoping to provoke Shrek Academy into initiating a war. Its treatment of Jing Hongchen—stripping him of office, imprisoning him, and ultimately sentencing him to death—also exposed the conflict between the throne and Mingde Hall. 227 229 252 259

Government and Internal Politics

The Xu clan retained direct control over the empire's political and military power. More than half of the upper ranks in the Royal Soul Guidance Legion and other numbered soul-engineer legions were Xu clan members, while nearly every major state office was held by someone sharing the imperial surname. 214

Mingde Hall was deliberately structured differently: its researchers and administrators were primarily outsiders rather than Xu clansmen. This allowed the imperial family to benefit from outside technical talent without surrendering control of the armed forces. 214

The system fostered deep factional tension. Jing Hongchen, despite leading Mingde Hall, was treated as a disposable subordinate by the royal family; Xu Jiangliu and the emperor moved to remove him after the empire's failures involving Su Wen. 213 214 253

Succession Conflict

Second Prince Xu Tianran sought Holy Spirit Cult support to eliminate the Third, Fourth, and Seventh Princes and seize the throne. The cult accepted, intending to use its remaining followers to strike first. 289

Later, Xu Tianran was reported dead after being struck by twenty Soul Guidance Rays. The old emperor remained in power during the Continental War, and the Holy Spirit Cult became the state religion. 345

Following Su Wen's attack on the palace and the deaths of Kong Deming and numerous ministers, the emperor abdicated in favor of Fourth Prince Xu Mochen. 437 438

Soul Tool Technology

The Sun Moon Empire's technological advantage was described as more than a simple generational lead: its soul-tool development had followed an entirely different and highly advanced path. Soul tools were integrated into ordinary urban life, including lighting and other daily-use devices. 173 175

Ming City reflected this development. The capital had no conventional city walls because the empire claimed it did not need them; it instead featured extensive modern-style urban planning, widespread multi-story construction, and pervasive soul-tool infrastructure. 175

Humanoid Soul Tools and Soul Mechas

Mingde Hall's primary research included Humanoid Soul Tools, the prototypes for later Battle Armor and Soul Guidance Mechas. A sixth-rank humanoid soul-guidance mecha, supplied with sufficient Milk Bottles, could allow a Soul King pilot to display peak Soul Emperor combat power. 162

Later imperial guards were equipped with Soul Mechas capable of raising a six-ring Soul Master's combat ability to the Soul Sage level; with Milk Bottles and heavy firepower, such a user could rank among powerful traditional Soul Sages. 256

The empire's research was nevertheless limited by its shortage of high-level blacksmiths and forging masters, a foundation more available on the Original Continent. This made it difficult to develop Battle Armor despite possessing advanced soul-tool knowledge. 176

Continental War

The Continental War began after a clash between Sun Moon and Star Luo patrol soldiers in the Mingdou Mountain Range ignited accumulated tensions. The empire appeared prepared in advance, deploying forces across the entire front. 345

Its early offensive combined direct military pressure with rapid occupation measures. After breaking through the Mingdou Mountain Range defense line and entering Star Luo territory, imperial forces purged or absorbed major local powers and executed high officials, while distributing free civilian soul-tool equipment such as heating and water appliances. 372

The empire's army later lured the White Tiger Duke's forces deep into its territory, surrounded them with two Beast Soul Guidance Legions and part of the Royal Soul Engineer Legion, and shattered the Star Luo advance. 370

Even as the war continued, the empire repeatedly sent forces over the Mingdou Mountain Range to raid Star Luo territory, while internal calls grew for another large-scale offensive against the remaining Original Continent powers. 434 437
