Background / History
Founding Status and Displacement
The Uchiha founded Konoha alongside the Senju and originally occupied prosperous grounds in the village’s central district. Despite that founding status, they were excluded from senior leadership and had no meaningful path to the Hokage position 7 9 12.
After witnesses saw Sharingan eyes in the Nine-Tails during its rampage, suspicion against the clan intensified. Fugaku accepted relocation to the village outskirts despite opposition from clan members. The Uchiha received no compensation, their former property was divided among other clans, and their new compound was surrounded by shinobi clans and watched by Anbu 4 6 10.
In Year 53 of Konoha, Bai Ye knows that Shisui’s death and the clan massacre are approaching. He initially intends to flee, but the activation of his Clan System gives him a reason—and a means—to intervene 1.
Bai Ye’s Leadership Change
Bai Ye builds support among the three faction elders before confronting Fugaku at a clan meeting. He criticizes Fugaku’s failure to address dispossession, surveillance, and internal division. With support shifting across the clan, Fugaku resigns rather than using his Mangekyō Sharingan to retain authority 6.
Bai Ye’s appointment attracts immediate scrutiny. Danzō urges an attack on the Uchiha, Hiruzen seeks intelligence through Shisui and Itachi, and Obito orders Zetsu to monitor the clan 7.
Reform and the Land Campaign
Bai Ye demands the return of the Uchiha’s former compound, challenging the claim that its confiscation was justified compensation for the Nine-Tails attack. When negotiations stall, he threatens to take the clan out of Konoha. Hiruzen, fearing the consequences of losing a founding clan and its military strength, agrees to return the land under public conditions 10 11 12 13.
Police outsourcing, employment for wounded veterans, commercial initiatives, and newspaper coverage improve the clan’s reputation. The Hyuga and Ino–Shika–Cho agree to return their portions of the land, followed by other clans. Civilian residents receive replacement homes and promises of compensation, making the Uchiha’s return increasingly likely 14 15 18.
These gains also reconcile the clan’s factions. Bai Ye nevertheless tells the elders that recovering property will not secure their future while Hiruzen, Danzō, and their allies remain in power 18 19.
Root Confrontation and the Duel
Danzō summons Shisui to Root and attempts to steal his Mangekyō Sharingan. Bai Ye anticipates the attack, follows secretly, and rescues him. Shisui consequently commits himself to Bai Ye’s leadership 22 23 24.
When Hiruzen orders Bai Ye and Shisui arrested, Bai Ye produces a recording of the theft attempt. He then exposes Danzō’s implanted Sharingan and Hashirama-cell arm, turning the confrontation into a public reckoning over stolen bloodline abilities 25 26 27.
Bai Ye challenges Hiruzen, Danzō, Koharu, and Homura to a fight to the death. Hiruzen accepts and explicitly states that the Uchiha must not be held collectively responsible, regardless of the outcome. Bai Ye kills Danzō, Koharu, and Homura, then fatally wounds Hiruzen with Susanoo 29 30 31 32.
First Uchiha Hokage and Aftermath
Following the duel, Konoha’s clans debate succession rather than renewing the fighting. Hiashi supports Bai Ye as the strongest candidate, while Ino–Shika–Cho weighs his ability to stabilize the village against the dangerous precedent of killing a Hokage. By Chapter 35, Bai Ye has become the Fifth Hokage and the clan’s first holder of that office 32 33 35 36.
The immediate massacre crisis is resolved, but the transition creates new problems. Itachi joins Akatsuki, the Fire Daimyo objects to Bai Ye’s appointment without his approval, and rival villages reassess Konoha’s strength. Internally, however, the change of government remains largely peaceful 37 38 39.
Bai Ye subsequently links further Uchiha advancement to strengthening Konoha, recruiting outside talent, and expanding the village’s influence. Shisui later recognizes that without Bai Ye’s intervention, the Uchiha could have shared the fate of Kirigakure’s destroyed bloodline clans 35 47 91.
Organization and Leadership
Internal Factions
| Faction | Initial Position | Associated Elder |
|---|---|---|
| Dove Faction | Favors yielding to Konoha and avoiding confrontation 1 | Uchiha Huo 12 13 |
| Radical Faction | Favors war with Konoha 1 | Uchiha Setsuna 25 |
| Middle Faction | Attempts to reconcile the opposing factions 1 | Uchiha Hui, who works with the other two elders under Bai Ye 18 |
- Initial weakness: The factions obstruct one another, preventing a united response to external pressure 1 4.
- Shared support: All three elders back Bai Ye’s police reform after he explains how it preserves Uchiha authority 13.
- Reconciliation: Progress toward recovering the compound leads the elders to put aside their factional differences 18.

Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the clan’s inherited ocular ability. Bai Ye identifies the Uchiha as descendants of Indra, who inherited the Sage of Six Paths’ “sage eyes” 170.
- Its progression is described as one-tomoe, two-tomoe, three-tomoe, Mangekyō, Eternal Mangekyō, and ultimately Rinnegan 41.
- Not every Uchiha awakens it; awakening generally brings increased combat strength 41.
- Transplanted Sharingan impose a heavy chakra burden on non-Uchiha users, illustrated by Kakashi 36 170.
Mangekyō Sharingan and Susanoo
Mangekyō users possess individual ocular techniques, while Susanoo provides an exceptionally powerful combat manifestation 20 21 24 30.
- Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami: Alters a target’s will without the target noticing 20 21.
- Bai Ye’s time abilities: Rewind events within seven seconds and observe or jump to possible events within the next seven seconds 6.
- Bai Ye’s Susanoo: A pale-gray, clock-patterned giant wielding an enormous sword; devastates Root and later overwhelms Hiruzen 24 31 32.
- Limits: Bai Ye’s original Mangekyō techniques consume substantial chakra and ocular power, risking blindness without additional support 6 19.
- Unequal access: Shisui cannot manifest the Complete Body Susanoo that Bai Ye displays 24.
Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan
These advanced forms appear through exceptional individuals rather than clan-wide upgrades.
- Bai Ye gains Eternal Mangekyō through the Clan System despite having no siblings, selecting Dual Kamui 35.
- His Eternal Eyes and senjutsu greatly increase his chakra, ocular power, and Susanoo strength 35.
- Bai Ye explains that awakening the Rinnegan requires combining Indra’s and Asura’s powers; he later demonstrates his own Six-Tomoe Rinnegan 170.
- Madara’s Rinnegan, implanted into Nagato, impose a continuing drain on Nagato’s chakra and life force 170 171.
Clan Fortune System
The system rewards improvements in the Uchiha’s strength, unity, influence, and prospects 1.
- Non-Uchiha joining the clan or serving under Bai Ye can increase fortune 1.
- Influencing important members, including Sasuke, can generate rewards 11.
- Once Bai Ye becomes Hokage, strengthening and expanding Konoha becomes another route to increasing Uchiha fortune 35.
Institutions and Assets
- Clan compound — Originally located in central Konoha; confiscated after the Nine-Tails attack. Bai Ye’s land campaign secures agreements for its return 4 6 18.
- Konoha Military Police Force — Remains under Uchiha control while routine enforcement is outsourced. Members are encouraged to train or take missions instead 13.
- Recruitment program — Offers generous benefits and thirteen months’ annual pay; accepts civilians, ninja, and disabled veterans, subject to performance assessment 14.
- Newspaper / Shinobi World Daily — Challenges unproven accusations against the Uchiha and later publishes scandals concerning Danzō and the former village leadership 18 35.
- Supermarket and commerce — Improve trade with outsiders and support the clan’s changing public image 14 15.
- Civilian relocation arrangements — Provide replacement housing and promised monetary compensation to residents occupying the former clan grounds 18.
Relationships
- Konoha — Founding village and home; relations improve with ordinary residents and other clans before the conflict with its senior leadership is resolved 7 20 21.

- Danzō Shimura / Root — Principal persecutors who seek Uchiha eyes and advocate eliminating the clan. Their theft and experimentation are publicly exposed 7 23 27 35.
- Hyuga Clan / Hiashi — Ocular-clan rivals who return Uchiha land and defend Shisui against Danzō’s justification for eye theft. Hiashi later supports Bai Ye’s Hokage candidacy 18 26 32.
- Ino–Shika–Cho — Return their portions of the Uchiha grounds despite ties to the Sarutobi, then debate supporting Bai Ye’s succession 18 32 33.
