After watching Might Duy and the others leave the Hokage's Office, Hiruzen Sarutobi handed Chihane the intelligence he had gathered on the Mist Ninja.
"Chihane, take a look at this. Kirigakure's army launched a full-scale invasion of the Land of Fire yesterday. Just now, I even received a letter from the Daimyo demanding an explanation."
Hiruzen Sarutobi frowned as he smoked.
"The Mist Ninja's main force has already reached Fengmen Village. Once they pass two more towns, they'll be close to Konoha. Those two towns have always thrived on their proximity to the sea and its abundant seafood. You could call them the two wealthiest towns in the Land of Fire."
"If the Mist Ninja invade them, it won't just be a huge loss for the Land of Fire, but for Konoha as well. The number of missions available to Konoha will drop by at least a third. Too many of our ninja will have to go hungry."
Hiruzen Sarutobi explained all this to Chihane with a troubled expression, hoping to show him just how difficult things were for him as the village's leader.
"Then what are you asking of me, Lord Hokage?"
Of course Chihane knew Hiruzen Sarutobi wanted him to volunteer for battle. Although Chihane cared deeply about the village, he knew that volunteering and being asked by Hiruzen Sarutobi were two completely different things. If Hiruzen Sarutobi asked him to fight, many things would become much easier to negotiate.
"Chihane, I hope you can lead the village's ninja to reinforce Danzo and drive Kirigakure's invaders out of the Land of Fire."
Hiruzen Sarutobi had waited and waited, but Chihane still refused to volunteer. He inwardly cursed the little fox. He knew Chihane would not take the initiative unless he spelled it out, which would make today's conversation
