Night fell.
After all the members of the Ninja Corps had left, Hiruzen Sarutobi stopped Chihane and brought him to his Hokage's Office.
Hiruzen Sarutobi kindly invited Chihane to sit down.
"Chihane, you did an excellent job on this mission. Tell me what reward you want. As long as it's within my power, I'll grant it!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi spoke gently to Chihane, wearing a kindly expression. He wanted to find out what Chihane really thought of him.
If Chihane asked for nothing, that would mean he must have greater ambitions.
"Lord Hokage, my teacher told me you have a Scroll of Seals filled with powerful ninjutsu. I'd like to borrow it for a few days. As you know, I have too little chakra. I want to look through it and see whether there's any ninjutsu I can practice."
Since Hiruzen Sarutobi had offered, Chihane naturally wasn't going to stand on ceremony. He had been thinking that if he gave the forbidden techniques in the Scroll of Seals to Orochimaru to research, his teacher might actually develop a few ninjutsu he could learn.
Besides, even Naruto would be able to learn ninjutsu from it in the future. No matter how he looked at it, with such a great achievement to his credit, Hiruzen Sarutobi shouldn't refuse him this.
For Hiruzen Sarutobi, however, that request struck a nerve. If anyone else had asked for the Scroll of Seals, he might have handed it over without a second thought. Chihane was different.
Although the ninjutsu in the Scroll of Seals were all forbidden techniques and weren't easy to learn, what if he actually mastered them?
It was unlikely, but he couldn't take that chance! Chihane was already so powerful. What if giving him the Scroll of Seals made him even stronger?
