Gern and Luffy defeated Imu’s forces at Egghead, but Imu escaped and took control of Blackbeard as a new vessel. As the Navy and Revolutionary Army prepared to attack the World Government, Gern arrived at their headquarters with overwhelming reinforcements.

• Gern killed Saint Saturn and joined Luffy in fighting the Five Elders, but Imu intervened, incapacitated Luffy, and turned Shiryu and Van Augur into demonic puppets.
• Gern fought Blackbeard and the remaining Elders as Imu tried to wear him down, while Dorry and Brogy rescued Luffy and helped him return to Gear Fifth.
• Gern, Luffy, Dorry, and Brogy attacked Imu, and Emeth released Joy Boy’s stored Conqueror’s Haki, forcing Imu to retreat and sending Blackbeard away as its new contract bearer.
• After the battle, the Navy and Revolutionary Army prepared to strike the World Government, while Vegapunk’s broadcast warned that the world could sink and Gern declared war on the World Government.
• Gern’s officers organized a campaign against the remaining Elders and Holy Knights, while Imu took control of Blackbeard’s body and waited for Gern.
• Buggy ordered Samuel Kronos delivered to the Navy and offered the Cross Guild as a mercenary organization.
• Sabo challenged Dragon over the Revolutionary Army’s role in the assault, but Gern arrived with elite Navy fighters, convincing Sabo that they had brought overwhelming support.
