Xu Mu and his group had already decided not to go to Gansu Province, so they could only take Lin Yi and the other two as far as the border.
Because the terrain had changed, Gansu Province, which they should have had to reach by taking a detour through Ba-Shu Province, now lay right before their eyes.
A transparent, illusory barrier completely separated the two regions. Thick fog filled the other side; as far as they could see, it was one vast expanse of mist sealed off from the world.
"What's going on? I can't see shit. Why have you all gone quiet?"
Blind Cheng got out of the vehicle and cocked an ear to listen.
Everyone in the convoy had stopped before the barrier, silently staring at Gansu Province on the other side.
Visibility was far too low in fog this thick. This was the real problem any convoy entering Gansu Province would have to face.
Lin Yi took a deep breath, then turned to Xu Mu and the others with a smile. "We're on our own from here. You should get going."
"I put the gasoline in your trunk. No idea how long it'll last-there are only two cans. If you use it sparingly, it might hold you over until you find a gas station to refuel."
Xu Mu had someone load the gasoline into the Hummer's trunk, then added, "I left you some supplies too. Don't complain about how little there is. We'll all have to fend for ourselves from here."

After thanking him, Lin Yi turned and called to Bai Le and Blind Cheng, "Get in. We're taking my car."
