Background / History

Blind Cheng is an orphan from the south who was visiting Qing City when the apocalypse began. He says he has long grown accustomed to living alone and no longer thinks much about family. His blindness is the required sacrifice of the [Blade-for-Hire] pathway, rather than an ordinary injury 179.

He initially traveled alone on an exposed three-wheeler, hunting members of the opposing [Criminal] pathway. When Feng San mocked him outside Qing City, Blind Cheng immediately subdued him with a grappling hold, then asked whether the group had seen a Sequence Seven [Criminal]. Cheng Kuang later described him as a relentless pursuer who had crippled several bandits with the Tendon-Twisting Bone-Breaking Hand 162 166.

After chasing Cheng Kuang through snow and freezing weather, Blind Cheng caught him near Lin Yi’s group. He rejected Cheng Kuang’s attempt to redirect him toward Lin Yi, destroyed the fleeing bandit’s car, and advanced to Sequence Six. He then accepted food from Xu Mu and arranged to accompany Lin Yi and Bai Le through Gansu Province toward the Northern Settlement 167 168 169.

Personality

Blind Cheng is foul-mouthed, provocative, and proud of his strength. He relentlessly insults Cheng Kuang, enjoys pretending to be weak before frightening lower-ranked opponents, and repeatedly seeks Lin Yi’s praise after victories. He is equally willing to mock Lin Yi and pester him about his romantic history 167 175 179 181 245.

His bravado does not prevent him from recognizing danger. When his saber warns him about Lin Yi, he backs down rather than starting a fight. He also refuses to test Lin Yi’s unfamiliar [Fire Thief] ability merely to satisfy his curiosity, recognizing that the offer may contain a trap 169 229.

He is capable of extreme violence without hesitation. He helps Lin Yi kill Zhu Qiuhong after she threatens to expose their supplies, slaughters White Lotus cultists, and carries out Lin Yi’s order to kill the hostile survivors in the mountain cave. His concern about the acid-rain killers is explicitly practical: allowing them to continue could help them advance beyond his ability to stop them 174 175 223 231 232 275.

Despite this ruthlessness, he values his companions. He protects an exhausted Lin Yi, volunteers for the convoy’s dangerous rescue mission, and refuses to hold his wedding until Lin Yi and the others can attend 204 307 406.
