Was it all over...?
Rhode glanced at the Helm of Domination, ready to pick it up.
Under his powerful magical assault, even Frostmourne and the Lich King's body had been reduced to ashes, yet the helm remained unharmed. That alone showed how extraordinary it was.
As far as Rhode knew, the Helm of Domination seemed to offer a direct connection to the Shadowlands.
The earlier storyline said that Kil'jaeden had used energy from the Shadowlands to forge the helm, then used it to imprison the Lich King-the soul of Ner'zhul.
And Icecrown Citadel, or rather the Frozen Throne within it, was itself the boundary between life and death on Azeroth. That was why Kil'jaeden had imprisoned Ner'zhul here rather than anywhere else.
But the later storyline retconned that, saying the helm had been commissioned by the Shadowlands' ultimate boss, our dear friend the Jailer. Through Sire Denathrius, he had then had Denathrius's creations, the Dreadlords, infiltrate the Fel faction and eventually deliver it to Kil'jaeden.
Of course, the ultimate aim was to control the undead and further their own agendas.
Whichever version was true, this thing was a genuine treasure.
I'd better pick it up first.
Maybe I could absorb it into my own magical power, just like the Moon Crystal...
But just then, Rhode heard a rising clamor.
It was nothing like the drums, gongs, and bustling voices of human society, but all manner of spine-chilling sounds unique to the undead!
They came from inside the citadel!
What's going on? They didn't come out to help when the Lich King was around, but now that he's dead, they're popping up?
Shit, could it be precisely because he's dead...?
If so, things would be difficult.
I'd better take a look.
Rhode quickly took the Helm of Domination in hand, then
