Society and Government
Major Alliances
| Alliance | Population | Territory and Activities |
|---|---|---|
| River Domain Alliance | 4.1 billion 40 | Controlled two-thirds of the planet’s territory. Established Orange Star Base as an experimental planetary-development project 40 44. |
| White Dove Alliance | 1.9 billion 47 | Formed by white people and possessed slightly greater overall technological strength. Developed large orbital cities for tourism 44 47. |
- The alliances signed the Joint Cosmic Resource Development Treaty while pursuing their respective space projects 44.
- Humanity had achieved communism, freeing people from the socioeconomic pressures and relentless competition familiar to Luo Qi from his previous life 88 90.
- Individuals could pursue preferred occupations and contribute to society through activities they enjoyed 90.
- Billions of inhabitants had received higher education; Luo Qi described their co-governance system as allowing individual potential rather than reducing people to lifelong assembly-line labor 66 157.
- At the beginning of its interstellar expansion, the planet still had sufficient resources and had not experienced resource exhaustion or a population explosion requiring off-world settlement 44.
Star River Intelligence
Star River was the River Domain Alliance’s most powerful intelligent quantum computer, integrated into nearly every aspect of human life 41.
- Scientific research: Calculated theories and supported technological development 41.
- Government: Modeled social structures and informed parliamentary decisions 41.
- Resource planning: Calculated society’s future requirements 41.
- Security: Monitored and protected parliamentary meetings 41.
- Historical records: Its stored and discarded drives preserved information about the Orange Star Transformation Plan and Luo Qi’s connection to Water Blue Star’s reforms 222.
Technology and Defenses
Civilian Infrastructure
- Automated industry: Industrial districts used humanoid robots, multipurpose lifting vehicles, spider-like machinery, and self-propelled specialist equipment 39.
- Advanced cities: Luo Qi’s infiltrating Replica encountered automated cities, intelligent service robots, infantry exoskeletons, and Tiger-Type Combat Mechs 47.
- Network security: Cyber Police hunted unauthorized programs. A defensive program attacked Luo Qi’s Replica, attempting to analyze and erase it while collecting information for future virus detection 41 47.
- Restricted artificial intelligence: Human-built servers contained logic locks and thought limiters. Control of Orange Star Base also required a physically present authorization token to prevent forged AI commands 41.
- Space infrastructure: Azure Sky served as an armed space station and communications relay; humanity also maintained lunar facilities and orbital reconnaissance systems 40 45 66 67.
Detection and Communications
- Invisible-Light Detectors: High-power, ultra-long-range electromagnetic detection identified an object’s shape and composition from reflected signals, even without visible illumination 39.
- Deep-space surveillance: Floating observation satellites monitored the Alliance’s deployed warship and its encounter with Tianhe 1 54.
- Relay communications: Satellites along Tianhe 1’s route carried Orange Star’s message to Azure Sky and onward to the Alliance 40.
- Gravity research: Human laboratories detected Orange Star’s brief gravitational test transmissions, although officials did not understand the reference to “Earth” 81.
Military Forces
| System | Documented Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Prototype Space Warship | A 1,006-meter vessel powered by controllable nuclear fusion, with seven main ion thrusters, demon-gold armor, and neural-linked controls 45. |
| Warship Armament | A 4,500-millimeter electromagnetic main gun, two four-million-kilowatt beam cannons, forty missile silos, smaller railguns, and more than one hundred laser turrets 54. |
| United Fleet | Twenty-seven hastily assembled warships defended the planet during the invasion preparations. Many required hurried prototype retrofits 75. |
| Orbital Particle Platforms | Nearly sixty thousand high-energy particle launch platforms had been completed during the initial defensive buildup 75. |
| Strategic Missiles | Automated factories continuously supplied extreme-range missiles carrying high-yield Helium Bombs 75. |
| Houtu Plan | Mobilized production for more than one hundred thousand large ground attack platforms, over one hundred thousand orbital attack satellites, and lunar installations. Visible surface automated attack units exceeded two billion 85. |
| Ground Forces | Included Dragon Model mechs deployed around the Homeward Bound’s landing site 86. |
Despite its productive capacity, humanity lacked a mature interstellar military. Before the invasion, it had not sent a spacecraft beyond the Solar System and brought it back 75.
History
Social Transformation
Water Blue Star’s earlier society was governed by an entrenched class system and an economy manipulated by a shortsighted minority. The Regional Administrator later credited Luo Qi with forcibly breaking that structure and enabling humanity’s collective awakening. In its assessment, technological and social development accelerated dramatically during the forty years preceding 2052 214.
The resulting society emphasized collective governance and individual freedom. Nevertheless, influential private groups retained manufacturing capacity, intelligent networks, proprietary technologies, and authorization to construct spacecraft 68 70.
Orange Star Project and Rescue Mission
The River Domain Alliance established Orange Star Base as an experimental development project. After the base lost contact, Stendhal remained stranded there while Luo Qi rebuilt its industrial infrastructure. Early estimates placed rescue preparation and travel at half a year, but Luo Qi acknowledged that his information about Water Blue Star’s capabilities was incomplete 4 17 44.
He Xuan’s coded message eventually reached Water Blue Star through relay satellites. The Alliance convened an emergency parliamentary session and committed to retrieving its people and reclaiming the self-developing base. Its leaders trusted their experimental starships and Star River Intelligence to handle either a peaceful transfer or a confrontation 40 41.
Luo Qi simultaneously sent a Replica into the planet’s network. It discovered that Orange Star’s stored technology was a deliberately weakened, stripped-down version of humanity’s actual capabilities 47.
Extraterrestrial Threat
An extraterrestrial battleship entered the Solar System, defeated a human ship, and advanced toward Water Blue Star. Luo Qi initially estimated humanity’s chance of victory at five percent, then revised it to one percent 65.
The alliances mobilized automated manufacturing and assembled their defensive fleet under severe time pressure. A separate experimental spacecraft departed with planetary genetic samples and enough fusion-powered endurance to search for a new home for nearly a thousand years 75.
Meanwhile, the Homeward Bound approached with twelve returning passengers. Commander Che Ruwen authorized its arrival but secretly ordered its destruction, suspecting deception. Luo Qi’s Replica protected the real ship by presenting a nanorobot decoy, which the Planetary Defense System destroyed 78.
The actual Homeward Bound later entered the atmosphere and landed under military scrutiny. Officials disputed whether it represented an alien intrusion, even as soldiers recognized the returning Orange Star personnel 86 87.
Battle and Surface Devastation
Humanity’s first fleet attempted to lure the Extrasolar Battleship away from the planet, but the enemy ignored the bait. Coordinated planetary and lunar volleys eventually pierced its shield and destroyed portions of its hull, briefly convincing human leaders that victory remained possible 92 93.
The enemy’s White Flash attack devastated the planet. One hemisphere became a yellow wasteland; displaced seawater, mass loss, and returning debris triggered earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and immense tsunamis. Surface and space communications collapsed, while surviving underground cities suffered the subsequent geological disasters 94 117.
Atmospheric escape briefly left the surface close to a vacuum, with solar radiation raising temperatures to 120 degrees Celsius. Gravity then pulled tens of trillions of tons of displaced matter back toward the planet, generating global storms that stripped away soil and exposed bare rock 95 96.
Metallic droplets also fell through the atmosphere. Luo Qi No. 1 discovered that they were eggs containing rapidly healing alien organisms and concluded that the invaders were altering Water Blue Star’s ecosystem 97.
Displacement and Recovery
The wider conflict destroyed Orange Star, and an attack refracted into Water Blue Star’s moon caused it to disappear in a brilliant eruption. Subsequent spreading darkness consumed much of the Solar System 104 109.
A colossal intervention contained the destruction, but the associated gravitational upheaval disrupted the Sun and planetary orbits. Water Blue Star survived and was pulled into a different stellar system around a smaller aqua-blue star 109.
When Luo Qi returned roughly three hundred years later by his own chronology, only thirteen years had elapsed in Water Blue Star’s recorded postwar history. He attributed the discrepancy to different rates of time passage. Both alliances were restoring the world with his nanobots and concealing it beneath an orbital holographic camouflage screen 222.
| Recovery Measure | Condition at Luo Qi’s Return |
|---|---|
| Atmosphere | Thickness and density were 60% of their original levels 222. |
| Green Spaces | Covered 13% of their former area 222. |
| Restoration Machinery | Mobile fortresses over one thousand meters tall converted surface rock and groundwater into atmosphere 222. |
| Concealment | An orbital holographic screen hid the planet 222. |
After investigating Star River’s historical records, Luo Qi took the entire stellar system into his body. By the Traveler’s visit, the original world—now called No. 1 Water Blue Star—had repaired its surface, and the River Domain Alliance had reached the early light level 222 242.
Reconstructions and Counterparts
Humanity’s Rebuilt Worlds
- Planet 5: Luo Qi terraformed this refuge using Water Blue Star’s ecosystem as its template. Molecular Robots created an artificial sun, atmosphere, fertile soil, moss, and growing plants 118.
- H976 reconstruction: Luo Qi rebuilt Water Blue Star in the H976 Stellar System and transferred saved human consciousness entities into 1.7 billion waiting bodies. Stendhal awakened beside Natasha and their daughter, while Fang Tianyi learned that an alien civilization had reconstructed their world 141.
- No. 2 Water Blue Star: Populated from backup data of some River Domain Alliance humans carried during the great exodus. Luo Qi described its people as courageous warriors united by their willingness to defend their home 242.
Other Universes
- Codename No. 2: Luo Qi discovered another Water Blue Star with a civilization and culture almost identical to humanity’s. Its star was transforming into a supergiant 235.
- Universe No. 4: Luo Qi used Pseudo-Time Reversal to reconstruct a shattered Water Blue Star, its moon, and its inhabitants from particle information. The restored world’s twenty-first-century society was subsequently observed under invasion by difficult-to-detect electromagnetic bodies 237 238.
