Background / History
Imperial upbringing and succession
Dai Mubai is the Star Luo Emperor’s third son. His eldest brother, Dai Weisi, is six years older, while the second prince died the year before Dai Mubai’s introduction. He is raised under an elimination-based succession system in which unsuccessful princes can have their soul power crippled or lose their lives 79.
Dai Mubai and Dai Weisi have comparable talent, but Weisi began cultivating before Mubai was born. Mubai believes he cannot overcome that six-year advantage. When Long Yue questions the succession system, Weisi offers his younger brother a comfortable life only if he voluntarily cripples his soul power and abandons the contest 79 80.
Mubai considers escaping to a subordinate kingdom of the Heaven Dou Empire, regarding direct allegiance to Heaven Dou as betrayal. Long Yue warns that flight alone would not protect a prince who retained succession rights from assassination 80.
Departure for the Divine Realm Empire
Independently of Mubai’s conversation with Long Yue, the Star Luo Emperor asks Sima Lanxiao to take his younger son to the Spirit Ice Continent. The emperor explains that he wants to prevent his sons from killing one another and offers to transfer properties to Mubai so that he can live comfortably abroad 80.
The official decree sends Mubai overseas to study and symbolize friendly relations. Mubai interprets the arrangement as becoming a hostage, although his father explicitly rejects that description. To secure the succession and limit foreign interference, the emperor also arranges Dai Weisi’s investiture as crown prince and invites the Divine Realm Empire’s delegation to witness it 80.
Historical reputation
The people who arrived from twenty thousand years later recognize Dai Mubai as an ancestor. Records from their world state that the original Shrek Seven Devils attained godhood. Dai Tianling nevertheless rejects acknowledging Mubai as an authority over the present imperial family, arguing that Huo Yuhao did more to protect their lineage 6 102.
Dai Tianling plans to replace the old historical narrative with one centered on Huo Yuhao and remove information concerning Tang San and Dai Mubai. The later discovery of a second Diamond-Binding Bracelet establishes that the delegation has entered a parallel world rather than its own past, making those records distinct from Mubai’s unfolding life here 6 130.
Appearance
Dai Mubai is described as handsome, with long golden hair falling down his back and deep-blue eyes containing twin pupils 79 88.
- Twin pupils: His most distinctive natural feature 88.
- White Tiger possession: His muscles swell and his hair turns black and white 99.
- Forehead marking: Three horizontal strokes and one vertical stroke form the character 王, meaning “king,” during possession 99.
Personality
Dai Mubai’s fear of his elder brother contrasts sharply with his arrogance toward weaker acquaintances. He wants a peaceful life outside the succession struggle, yet expects Tang San to become his underling because he is stronger, richer, and a prince. He uses money to encourage companionship and quickly adopts the Divine Realm Empire’s fashionable habits 80 88 97.
He is pleasure-seeking and frequently visits the imperial capital’s entertainment venues, neglecting preparations for Monster Academy’s entrance assessment. His treatment of Zhu Zhuqing is dismissive: he rejects responsibility for her escape, complains about her company, and later becomes angry when she refuses his physical affection 81 89 113 124.
Despite his frivolity, Mubai understands political and military matters. He immediately recognizes how soul tool railways allow the empire to move troops between its capital and frontiers. He also notices Tang San’s abrupt shift from hostility to gratitude after receiving imperial benefits and worries that their underling arrangement could become grounds for future revenge 93 101.
Abilities & Skills
White Tiger Martial Soul
- Type: Power attack system beast martial soul, suited to direct physical combat 114.
- Possession: Enlarges his musculature and enables him to fight with tiger claws 99 127.
- Training environment: Cultivating among tigers is identified as a suitable mimicry environment for his martial soul 104.
- Limitations: His two-ring strength is insufficient against Dai Yun’er’s Soul King guards or Lin San’s higher cultivation and battle armor 99 127.
White Tiger Protection Barrier
- Soul ring: First yellow hundred-year ring 99 114.
- Effect: Surrounds his body with a white defensive shield 99.
- Applications: Protects him during frontal charges and exchanges of claw strikes 99 127.
- Durability: Tang San’s ordinary poison cannot overcome it. Lin San ultimately shatters it with a battle-armor-enhanced slash 127 129.
White Tiger Fierce Light Wave
- Soul ring: Second yellow hundred-year ring 99 114.
- Effect: Fires a concentrated, milky-white ball of light from his mouth 99.
- Applications: Used alongside the Protection Barrier against Bei Bei and as a ranged attack against Lin San 114 127.
- Limitations: A Soul King disperses it with a casual strike, causing backlash that leaves Mubai unable to resist. Activating both soul skills in succession also places a considerable burden on his body 99 114.
Imperial Education
- Military insight: Understands the strategic value of railways for rapid troop deployment 93.
- Martial soul knowledge: Recognizes the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon and understands martial soul fusion skills through the White Tiger Dai and Nether Zhu families’ recurring partnerships 89 114.
- Social manipulation: Uses wealth, status, and claims of shared origins to recruit Tang San as a companion 88 97.
Equipment / Items

Relationships

- Dai Weisi — Eldest brother and succession rival. His six-year cultivation advantage leaves Mubai afraid to challenge him 79 80.
- Zhu Zhuqing — Arranged fiancée. Mubai asks that she be sent home after her escape, but later calls for her help when detained. She eventually rejects his attempt to put an arm around her 81 88 124.

- Long Yue — Adviser during the succession crisis; later referee in his match against Lin San 80 126 127.
- Sima Lanxiao — Diplomatic official who accepts him as a guest of the Divine Realm Empire and arranges his journey abroad 80 81.

- Dai Yun’er — Princess whom he approaches at a lakeside bar. His attempt to pass himself off as local royalty and demand compensation ends with her guards beating him and Tang San 98 99 101.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Journey and Spirit Pagoda Detention
Mubai leaves Star Luo City with the diplomatic delegation. Zhu Zhuqing follows secretly, seeking escape from her family’s marriage plans. After Long Yue rescues her from wolf bandits, Mubai refuses to take responsibility for her and asks that she be returned home; Long Yue instead agrees to take her onward 81.
In Xinluo City, Mubai meets Tang San and proposes recruiting him as an underling. Their preparations to duel violate the Spirit Pagoda’s prohibition on using soul power near its premises, and a purple mecha takes both away. Mubai initially fears deportation, but becomes grateful when the detention includes a free physical examination 88 89 90.
Imperial Capital Misadventure
While exploring the imperial capital with Tang San, Mubai considers exploiting the shared Dai surname and White Tiger martial soul to impersonate a member of the local imperial household. He tries the claim after offending Dai Yun’er at a bar, then demands one hundred thousand in compensation. Her guards overpower both boys 97 98 99.
Their resentment subsides when Sima Lanxiao announces the emperor’s offer of free soul spirits. Mubai mocks Tang San’s sudden gratitude but stays behind to ice his own injuries 101.
Monster Academy Admission
Mubai’s Hall of Heroes assessment matches him against a rank-26 simulation of Bei Bei. He initially mocks Bei Bei’s name, then takes the fight seriously upon recognizing his martial soul. Bei Bei counters his two-skill combination and defeats him almost immediately 114 115.
Although Mubai fails the assessment, En Ci admits him, Tang San, Zhu Zhuqing, and Dugu Yan by exception, citing their talent and relations between the continents. The exception becomes part of a wider dispute over preferential treatment 117 118.
Mubai later joins Tang San against the thirteen-year-old, rank-31 Lin San in a match intended to settle their right to remain. Tang San reinforces him with Blue Silver Grass armor, but Lin San’s battle-armor-enhanced slash breaks both defenses and wounds his left shoulder. Long Yue declares Mubai defeated, leaving Tang San to continue alone 126 127 128.
Notable Quotes
“My elder brother already holds the position of crown prince. All I want is to live out my life freely, peacefully, and happily in the Divine Realm Empire.” 81
“Because I’m stronger than you and richer than you.”
— Explaining why Tang San should become his underling 88
Trivia
- Long Yue recounts an unofficial history in which Tang San first clashes with Mubai at Suotuo City’s Rose Hotel after Mubai arrives with twins. Tong Yu notes that this account is absent from the historical records; it is presented as a story about the original history, not an event in Mubai’s current journey 154.
