Background / History
Transmigration and Founding
Star Luo City's displacement created a legitimacy problem: its people belonged to a future Star Luo Empire, while another Star Luo Empire already existed on the Douluo Continent. En Ci confirmed their arrival twenty thousand years in the past after sensing the Divine Realm's presence again 6.
Dai Tianling resolved the competing national identities by attributing the journey to Spirit Ice Douluo Huo Yuhao. He declared the new homeland Huo Yuhao's promised land, renamed the continent Spirit Ice Continent, and renamed the state Divine Realm Empire. One week after the upheaval, he proclaimed the first year of the Divine Realm Calendar 6 7.
The new empire immediately began military expansion. Huang Zhengyang's First Mecha Corps attacked the Green Scale Tribe and planted the imperial White Tiger flag where its altar had stood 7.
Early Development
By Year 4, the empire had developed the central Green Scale Plain, followed the Xiding River downstream to the Southern Seaport, and established an ocean-going fleet. Its first expedition to the Douluo Continent arrived in Year 2638 of the Douluo Calendar 11 13.
Expansion did not amount to complete continental control. Sima Lanxiao presented the empire abroad as a unified continental power, but its actual holdings remained limited, and rebuilding its former soul-guidance industries was a major challenge 29. A later territorial map identified secure river basins and railway corridors alongside dangerous wilderness and unexplored northern regions 130.
Government and Internal Politics
Leadership and Officials
| Figure / Institution | Position | Responsibilities and Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Dai Tianling | Emperor | Directs national policy, receives foreign visitors, and authored the empire's standardized account of Huo Yuhao's history 36 97 110. |
| Sima Lanxiao | Foreign Minister and special envoy | Leads the first diplomatic mission, negotiates treaties and arms sales, and helps develop the cultural-hegemony policy 29 54 144. |
| Joander | Third-Rank Councilor and diplomat | Handles first-contact negotiations, returns confidential intelligence, and later oversees Eastsea City's development 15 94 147. |
| En Ci | Emperor's teacher; head of a court department | Advises Dai Tianling and later places Long Yue in a nominal departmental post 6 146. |
| Huang Zhengyang | Senior military officer | Commands the First Mecha Corps and coordinates operations against indigenous forces 7 134. |
| Intelligence Department | Imperial intelligence organization | Approaches Long Yue during political maneuvering involving the Spirit Pagoda 40. |
Factional Tensions
The disappearance of the Sun Moon Federation as a shared enemy exposed divisions within the empire. Before the first overseas expedition, court factions argued over prioritizing domestic development or foreign diplomacy. Continental expansion temporarily concealed these tensions by providing abundant resources 56.
Imperial authority over powerful soul-master organizations was not absolute. The Spirit Pagoda remained an influential institution, while Dai Tianling's intelligence apparatus showed interest in using Long Yue against it. The Tang Sect's absence removed another potential constraint on the throne 38 40.
Territory and Settlements
| Territory / Settlement | Role and Degree of Control |
|---|---|
| Divine Realm Imperial Capital | Political center and the empire's most developed urban area, with factories, broad roads, public facilities, and extensive soul-tool infrastructure 28 33 94 100. |
| Green Scale Plain | Early conquest and development zone surrounding the capital; later listed among the securely controlled regions 7 11 130. |
| Xiding River Basin | Secure territory and an early route of expansion toward the Southern Seaport 11 130. |
| Beidou River Basin | Listed among the regions under firm imperial control 130. |
| Main Railway Corridors | Secure lines connecting settlements and enabling rapid military movement 93 130. |
| Xinluo City | Developing western port where the returning Ocean Fleet lands; linked to the capital by Soul Guidance Train 86 93. |
| Northern Wilderness | Regions north of Pale Stone Pass had not been explored when En Ci showed Long Yue the territorial map 130. |
| East Sea Island / Eastsea City | Overseas territory developed by Joander and construction crews, with relocated indigenous tribes among its inhabitants 147. |
- Territorial hazards: Great rivers, primeval forests, mountains, and marshlands may contain hostile indigenous groups or soul beasts 130.
- Population shortage: The interior remains sparsely settled. Long Yue proposes immigration to support continental control and supply the capital's workforce; Joander takes the proposal seriously 93 94.
Military
First Mecha Corps
The First Mecha Corps provides the organized force for the empire's earliest conquests. Huang Zhengyang expects it to become the nucleus of the future imperial army 7.
- Personnel: Two thousand members; its initial expedition deploys one hundred yellow-rank standard mecha 7.
- Savage Bear Type: Heavily armored machines forming the front assault line 7.
- Hound Type: More agile machines equipped with Soul Guidance Ray Guns and chainswords 7.
- Despair Reaper: Huang Zhengyang's black-rank mecha, armed with a massive scythe 7.
- Design preference: The empire favors beast-shaped mecha, unlike the Sun Moon Federation's generally humanoid designs 7.
- Initial loadout: Primarily close-combat machines; none in the first deployment carry Fixed Soul Cannon Shells 7.
Ocean Fleet
- Known warships: White Tiger, Spirit Ice, and Dragon Butterfly 82.
- First overseas mission: Three enormous soul-powered warships reach Skyfrost Bay in Year 4 of the Divine Realm Calendar 13 15 22.
- Strategic advantage: Sima Lanxiao regards control of ocean-going transport as a major safeguard against attacks on the homeland 29.
- Voyage length: Travel between the empire and Heaven Dou requires more than a month, making transportation a significant obstacle to trade 30.
- Maintenance: After returning from the first diplomatic tour, the ships remain at Xinluo City for maintenance and military orders 93.
Battle Armor and Elite Combatants
Battle armor is central to the empire's advantage over contemporary Douluo forces. Sima Lanxiao orders Long Yue not to reveal it during the Heaven Dou Royal Academy exchange 43.
- Combat amplification: A six-ring Soul Emperor escort uses One-Word Battle Armor to reach a level-eighty Soul Douluo level of strength when confronting Liu Erlong 152.
- Manufacturing limitation: Sima Lanxiao states that the empire lacks a divine smith capable of producing Four-Word Battle Armor; its available manufacturing reaches Three-Word Battle Armor 43.
- Individual exception: En Ci is later identified as a Four-Word Battle Armor Master and rank-ninety-nine cultivator 177.
- Other leading figures: Tong Yu is also rank ninety-nine, while Dai Tianling is a Titled Douluo 100 177.
- Foreign misinterpretation: Snake Lance Douluo senses five delegation members comparable to himself. Qian Renxue incorrectly concludes that all five are Titled Douluos 28.
Soul Guidance Technology and Cultivation
Soul Tools
The empire possesses industrial production lines for level-three soul tools and integrates soul guidance technology into both warfare and everyday life 30 86.
- Military products: Melee weapons, ranged weapons, paralysis rays, and fixed-installation soul tools 29 30 31.
- Standard officer weapon: A class-three military saber issued to junior officers at the Soul Elder level 29.
- Support-type applications: Auxiliary soul masters can operate offensive soul tools, attracting the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect's interest 33.
- Energy requirement: Operating a soul tool consumes soul power; stronger melee tools consume more 30.
- Demonstrated limitation: Joander's class-three Paralysis Ray does not prevent a level-fifty-nine Spirit Hall knight from defeating him 66.
Soul Spirits and Spiritual-Power Testing
The empire credits Huo Yuhao with creating soul spirits. A single purple soul spirit can supply three thousand-year soul rings, helping explain ring configurations unfamiliar to contemporary Douluo cultivators 66 67.
- Spirit Ascension Platform: Allows cultivators to improve their soul spirits and associated soul rings 67.
- Cultivation priorities: Soul-ring color alone is less important than becoming a Battle Armor Master 67.
- Spiritual-power classification: Uses named realms, including Spirit Origin, Spirit Connection, and Spirit Sea, unlike the contemporary Douluo Continent 68 102.
- Physical examinations: Measure physical strength, soul-power fluctuations, spiritual power, and soul-bone enhancements; domestic examinations normally produce printed reports 70 71.
- Foreign data collection: Free examinations give imperial representatives information on Douluo's talent distribution, cultivation standards, and potential recruits 71.
Blacksmith Ranks
| Ranks | Classification | Required Capability |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Master level | Hundred refinement 63. |
| 3–4 | Grandmaster level | Thousand refinement 63. |
| 5–6 | Master craftsman level | Spirit forging; sixth-rank smiths must also perform simple fusion forging 63. |
| 7–8 | Saint craftsman level | Soul forging 63. |
| 9 | Divine craftsman level | Heavenly refinement 63. |
Long Yue identifies Tang Hao, Tai Tan, and Lou Gao as contemporary divine smiths. Sima Lanxiao considers recruiting Lou Gao to address the empire's shortage 43.
Society and Infrastructure
Urban Life
- Transportation: Asphalt roads, Soul Tool Buses, Soul Tool Cars, and trains; Long Yue states that the trains can reach four hundred li per hour 86 93.
- Public amenities: Shops, squares, roads, and bridges surpass those of Heaven Dou City in scale and development 28.
- Domestic conveniences: Hot-water showers, constant-temperature bathtubs, and Soul Guidance Televisions 87 147.
- Nightlife: Extensive soul-guidance lighting and late-night vehicle traffic make the capital a city that “never sleeps” 94.
- Media: A developed news industry, television programming, and clocks that organize work down to minutes and seconds 87 147.
- Education: Monster Academy admits foreign applicants through trials in the Hall of Heroes; Divine Realm Heaven Dou Imperial Academy is another option 111 115.
Treatment of Indigenous Peoples
Indigenous inhabitants are treated as expendable labor rather than citizens with civil rights. Resistance to imperial expansion is met with lethal force, leaving surviving tribes fearful of the empire 94 134.
- Railway construction: Jade Phosphor Memoirs records that at least one million indigenous people died building the railway network 93.
- Displacement: Imperial attacks leave the Flower Cat Tribe homeless; its survivors seek refuge under the King Kong King 135.
- Relocation: Cat One and his brothers accept settlement on East Sea Island in exchange for food, clothing, and safety, despite being warned they may never return to Spirit Ice Continent 147.
Official History and National Identity
Dai Tianling authors the Divine Realm Book: Spirit Ice Chronicle, a standardized history presenting Huo Yuhao as the imperial family's ancestor and the empire's founder. Its account of Huo Yuhao repelling the Sun Moon Federation, challenging Di Tian, and ascending to godhood is explicitly identified as fabricated history 36.
- Founding narrative: The city’s transmigration and new homeland are officially described as Huo Yuhao's divine gift 6 7.
- Historical revision: Dai Tianling plans to discard earlier information about Tang San and Dai Mubai 6.
- Tang Sect attachment: Popular affection survives because Huo Yuhao revitalized the sect and it supplied extensive soul-tool technology before the transmigration 22.
- Tang San's reputation: He remains sufficiently revered that Long Yue believes killing him directly would make Long Yue appear villainous 53.
- Ancestral affinity: Delegation members approach the ancient Star Luo Empire with the fervor of a pilgrimage, despite their nation's new name 78.
Foreign Policy and Relationships
Diplomatic and Commercial Policy
The first mission publicly seeks peaceful exploration, diplomatic relations, port resupply, and trade. Its officials favor cooperation with major continental powers over committing the empire's military resources to an overseas war 15 25.
- Restricted exports: Battle armor, mecha, and Fixed Soul Cannon Shell technology are withheld to preserve the empire's advantage 29 31 66.
- Marketable arms: Lower-level offensive soul tools are offered abroad, with selected class-three products included in demonstrations 29 31.
- Cultural hegemony: Long Yue and Sima Lanxiao propose exposing foreign elites to imperial industry, education, infrastructure, and living standards so they voluntarily adopt its values 33.
- Adopted policy: Dai Tianling approves cultural hegemony and plans a fleet round trip to Douluo at least once every six months 144.
- Soul-spirit market strategy: Long Yue sees examination data as a means to promote imperial cultivation methods and generate repeat business through soul-spirit sales and upgrades 71.
