Background / History

Return to Japan

Kaneki anticipates the need for Okkotsu’s help and has Yū Shinji call him back before the Shibuya Incident. Okkotsu returns without notifying Jujutsu Headquarters, then arrives with Choso to meet Kaneki and Yuki Tsukumo. The four head toward the Tombs of the Star Corridor while Kaneki explains his predictions and plans against Kenjaku 13.

Kaneki considers secrecy essential: if Kenjaku knows Okkotsu has returned, he may avoid a direct confrontation until the Culling Game separates Jujutsu High’s strongest fighters. Headquarters later treats Okkotsu’s unannounced return as betrayal and discusses punishing him 16 31.

Battle at the Tombs of the Star Corridor

Okkotsu and Yuki initially remain outside Kenjaku’s domain range. Their planned counterattack depends on Okkotsu forcing a domain clash, Tengen dismantling the Emptiness Barrier, and Yuki attacking during Kenjaku’s resulting burnout. Uraume, Mahito, and Tachibana Mio arrive and disrupt the operation 14 19.

Kenjaku’s Womb Profusion destroys Authentic Mutual Love almost immediately, leaving Okkotsu bloodied despite his use of Simple Domain. Protected by Rika, he repairs his burned-out technique and rejoins the fight. He subsequently reverses his domain’s barrier conditions, blinds Kenjaku’s right eye with a sword strike, and later cuts off his right arm 19 20 22 23.

Okkotsu’s reinforced domain still cannot withstand the open-barrier domain indefinitely. It eventually collapses, but Kaneki’s Black Flash brings down Kenjaku’s domain before the enemy can finish the group. Uraume freezes the battlefield to secure their escape 23.

Preparation and Sendai Colony

After the battle, Okkotsu attempts to learn Soul Strike but cannot perceive souls. Training shifts to anti-domain techniques, while Kaneki supplies additional material for Copy. Okkotsu also uses Dismantle to help Mahoraga adapt to slashing attacks and masters Ui Ui’s technique for Soul Exchange 28 34 35 37 38.

Okkotsu, Kaneki, and Hakari enter the Sendai Colony to find Angel and address Tsumiki Fushiguro’s situation, but the barrier separates them. Before rejoining his allies, Okkotsu exorcises two special grade cursed spirits and kills two ancient sorcerers without connecting to Rika. He begins the connection only after Precognition alerts him to approaching danger 38 39 44.

On arrival, he destroys Samurai’s vibration sphere, uses Jacob’s Ladder, and intercepts Ryu Ishigori and Takako Uro. A crow’s warning then alerts the group that their allies at the Tombs of the Star Corridor are in danger 44.

Futures Revealed by Kaneki

Kaneki describes a future in which Okkotsu beheads Kenjaku after Fumihiko Takaba conceals his cursed energy. In that account, Okkotsu acquires Kenjaku’s technique and takes over the deceased Satoru Gojo’s body to fight Sukuna. These are predictions disclosed by Kaneki, not events Okkotsu has completed in the documented storyline 2 10 13.

Kaneki also predicts that Okkotsu will marry Maki and have a granddaughter, Oyu Okkotsu, who will confront the strongest alien at sixteen. Okkotsu is said to be dead by that future period. At the time of the revelation, however, no romance has begun between him and Maki 26 35.

Appearance

  • Wears a white Jujutsu High uniform when he returns to meet Kaneki and Yuki 13.
  • Carries a sword and wears the ring used to connect with Rika on his left ring finger 16 21.

Personality

Okkotsu is considerate toward his allies and uncomfortable with plans that expose them to unnecessary danger. He challenges the assumption that a closed-barrier domain cannot resist Kenjaku’s open-barrier domain because he wants to find a survival route for Kaneki and Choso. After taking extra time to repair his own burnout safely, he apologizes to the allies left under attack 15 20.

He combines caution with decisive action. Once the barrier operation breaks down, he enters the fight rather than hesitate further. He also offers to accompany Kaneki to Headquarters and reacts with worry and indignation when told about his future granddaughter’s dangerous assignment 19 26 28.

Abilities & Skills

Copy

  • Acquires cursed techniques when Rika consumes part of the original sorcerer’s body 21.
  • Loses access to a copied technique if its donor regenerates the consumed body part; Choso deliberately leaves his arm unhealed during the battle 21.
  • Stores copied techniques in Rika to avoid overloading his brain 20.
  • Cannot use Limitless without the Six Eyes, even if he copies it 24.
Technique Documented use
Cursed Speech Commands Uraume and Tachibana Mio to stop moving 21.
Blood Manipulation Fires point-blank Piercing Blood at Kenjaku’s brain; develops a rotating blood coating for his sword from Choso’s Blood Blade 21 22.
Projection Freezes Kenjaku’s cursed spirits so allies can exorcise them 22.
Malevolent Shrine Uses Dismantle on Mahoraga during adaptation training 25 34.
Ui Ui’s technique Performs Soul Exchange between Kaneki and Yuki 38.
Jacob’s Ladder Uses it during the Sendai battle 44.
Precognition Detects approaching danger before connecting with Rika 44.

Rika

  • Functions as a shikigami and external storage for cursed techniques and cursed energy, retaining the intelligence of the former cursed spirit Rika 20.
  • Protects Okkotsu during recovery, fights alongside him, and consumes material required for Copy 20 21.
  • Connection through Okkotsu’s ring grants access to stored techniques and cursed energy for five minutes 20.
  • Fires the Pure Love Cannon, a directional cursed-energy blast 21 22.
Form Properties
Black Rika Partial manifestation with no time limit and the lowest output. Okkotsu cannot access stored techniques in this state 20.
White Rika Fully manifested, connected state with higher output and access to stored techniques and energy 20.
Open-Eyed Rika Enraged form with the highest output; used to charge the Pure Love Cannon 20 21.

Domain Expansion: Authentic Mutual Love

  • Manifests a ruined field filled with swords containing copied cursed techniques 21.
  • Okkotsu must pick up a sword to discover which technique it contains; the sword disappears after use 21.
  • The number of swords is unlimited, allowing another sword to hold a previously used technique 21.
  • Can focus the sure-hit effect on one person, allowing allies such as Yuki to keep healing without defending against it 21.
  • Reversing the internal and external barrier conditions temporarily improves resistance to an open-barrier domain, but does not prevent eventual collapse 22 23.

Reverse Cursed Technique

  • Repairs cursed technique burnout by restoring the damaged brain region associated with the technique 11 20 22.
  • Enables repeated domain use during the battle with Kenjaku 20 21.
  • Requires intense concentration; even a small error during brain repair can be fatal 22.
  • His experience with the process informs his estimate that Kenjaku can reset his brain only a limited number of times 24.

Anti-Domain Techniques

  • Simple Domain — Uses it defensively after Authentic Mutual Love is destroyed 19.
  • Hollow Wicker Basket — Learns it from Tengen and later masters it 35 37.
  • Falling Blossom Emotion — Studies it under Naobito Zenin, whose permission is required before teaching it outside the group 35.
  • Barrier manipulation — Successfully reverses his domain’s conditions, then teaches the method to Yuki 22 28.

Swordsmanship and Cursed Energy

  • Combines sword attacks, Rika’s physical assaults, and copied techniques in close combat 20 21 22.
  • Uses rapidly rotating blood on his blade to increase cutting power 22.
  • Cuts Kenjaku’s face deeply enough to blind his right eye and later severs his right arm 22 23.
  • Possesses immense cursed-energy reserves; Kaneki’s notes place Sukuna’s reserves at more than twice Okkotsu’s 11 13.
  • Cannot perceive souls during Soul Strike training, preventing him from learning the technique at that stage 35.

Equipment / Items

  • Sword — His principal handheld weapon; enhanced with a rotating blood coating during the Kenjaku battle 20 22.
  • Ring — Worn on his left ring finger and used to establish the five-minute connection with Rika 20 21.
  • Ui Ui’s written instructions — Supplied by Kaneki to help him learn the copied technique 37.

Relationships

  • Rika — Protective companion and combat partner; Okkotsu reassures her when Kaneki’s prediction about his marriage angers her 20 26.
  • Ken Kaneki — Ally who arranges his return, supplies material for Copy, and shares future knowledge that changes his battle preparations 13 21 25 37.
  • Yuki Tsukumo — Fellow frontline fighter. She guides Soul Strike training, while Okkotsu teaches her how to reverse domain conditions 22 28.
  • Maki Zenin — Predicted future wife, not an established romantic partner in the documented present. Both become embarrassed when their future granddaughter is discussed 26 35.
  • Oyu Okkotsu — Predicted granddaughter and Ten Shadows user destined to fight the strongest alien at sixteen 26.
  • Kinji Hakari — Ally in the Sendai mission. Soul Exchange with Okkotsu helps Hakari learn Reverse Cursed Technique and improve reinforcement, output, and barrier skills 38 39.
  • Choso — Ally who supplies an arm for Copy, enabling Okkotsu’s use of Blood Manipulation 21 22.
  • Naobito Zenin — Source of copied Projection and instructor in Falling Blossom Emotion 21 35.
  • Aoi Todo — Collaborates with Okkotsu on a binding vow to expand Boogie Woogie’s range 38.
  • Kenjaku — Enemy who repeatedly underestimates him despite Kaneki’s warning that Okkotsu will behead him in the foreseen future 2 23.
  • Jujutsu Headquarters — Regards his return without notification as betrayal and considers punishment 31.
