Background / History
Thousand-Year Scheme
Kenjaku has spent over a thousand years moving between bodies and developing his plans. His ultimate objective is to optimize cursed energy by merging humanity with Tengen, producing a chaotic new species. This directly opposes Yuki Tsukumo’s goal of eliminating cursed energy and cursed spirits 10 12.
The connection between Tengen, the Star Plasma Vessel, and the Six Eyes obstructed his merger scheme. Kenjaku twice lost to Six Eyes sorcerers and once killed both a Six Eyes bearer and a Star Plasma Vessel while they were infants. When killing them failed to prevent the merger, he adopted sealing Satoru Gojo as his solution 14 15.
He previously inhabited Kaori Itadori and knew Kaneki during his childhood. By the Shibuya Incident, he occupied Suguru Geto’s body and retained Kaori’s Anti-Gravity System 2 8 10.
Bargain with Ken Kaneki
At Aoyama Cemetery, Kenjaku initially rejects Kaneki as a prospective Culling Game player because his aptitude does not meet the required standard. Kaneki instead bargains with information about the future, demanding to become a sorcerer before explaining what he knows. Kenjaku orders Mahito to alter Kaneki’s brain with Idle Transfiguration 2.
Kaneki tells him that Yuta Okkotsu will behead him, acquire his technique, and possess Gojo’s body to fight Sukuna. Kenjaku infers that Gojo will be unsealed and killed, and that Sukuna will prevail. He demands a Binding Vow to verify Kaneki’s account, although Kaneki withholds information by refusing to answer certain questions 2 3.
Kenjaku lets Kaneki leave but intends to kill him once Gojo has been sealed. His concern is not merely the information Kaneki possesses: he regards an unpredictable factor as a greater immediate threat than delays to his plan 2 3.
Appearance
- Geto’s outward appearance: Wears a Five-Strap Kasaya and ties his hair into a bun 2.
- Forehead stitches: A line of stitches crosses his forehead, marking the body he inhabits 2.
- Exposed brain: During the Star Corridor battle, his forehead stitches come undone and his skull cap sits crookedly, exposing the “Brain Flower” beneath 22.
- Battle injuries: Okkotsu cuts deeply across his face and blinds his right eye; Kenjaku initially delays healing to focus on stalling his opponents 22 23.
Personality
Kenjaku often speaks gently and smiles while threatening or injuring others. He tells Kaneki that he will kill him in a kindly tone, then later expresses delight at Yuki arriving too late to prevent Kaneki’s severe injuries 2 8.
His curiosity is tempered by suspicion. Kaneki’s unusual memories make him consider possessing the boy, but Geto’s body is more important to his plans. Even when Kaneki appears sincere, Kenjaku assumes that he is withholding something 2.
He strongly resents being manipulated. Recognizing that Kaneki has arranged Mahito’s retreat to force his intervention intensifies his desire to kill Kaneki. Nevertheless, he can acknowledge an enemy’s talent, praising Kaneki’s improved cursed energy control and regretting that he did not make him a Culling Game player 6 17.
Survival and the continuation of his scheme take priority over finishing a fight. He leaves Shibuya without confirming Kaneki’s death because the survival of Jujutsu High’s fighters makes him wary of further contingencies 9.
Abilities & Skills
Body-Hopping Cursed Technique
Kenjaku’s unnamed innate technique allows him to repeatedly change bodies while retaining his own brain 10.
- Possesses Suguru Geto and uses his Cursed Spirit Manipulation 8 10.
- Retains Anti-Gravity System from his former host, Kaori Itadori 8 10.
- His exposed brain becomes a direct target for Okkotsu during combat 21 22.
- Geto’s body is not entirely unresponsive: when Kaneki imitates Gojo’s voice and urges Geto to awaken, the body grabs Kenjaku by the throat 46.
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Kenjaku subjugates and commands cursed spirits, using their varied abilities alongside his own techniques 6 10.
- Forced absorption: Converts the severely injured Mahito into an orb and consumes him 6 7.
- Swarm attacks: Releases large numbers of low-grade spirits reinforced with cursed energy to overwhelm opponents, conceal himself, and buy time 20 23.
- Mobility and rescue: Uses a flying spirit as transport and another spirit to bite through Toad’s restraining tongue 22.
- Retreat cover: Leaves Yuki occupied with a mass of cursed spirits while escaping Shibuya with Uraume 9.
Notable spirits associated with his arsenal include:
| Cursed Spirit | Ability / Use |
|---|---|
| Mahito | Uses Idle Transfiguration to awaken Kaneki as a sorcerer before being absorbed and having his technique extracted 2 6 7 11 28. |
| Elephant God | Special-grade curse born from an Asian deity; removes conceptual “obstacles.” Redirects arrows, suspends opponents, and prevents Kaneki’s Mahoraga ritual. Its true name is unknown 8 11. |
| Kurourushi | Cockroach-born special-grade curse listed in Kaneki’s warning; reproduces through feeding and wields the Festering Life Sword 11. |
| Akuro-o Taigoku | Special-grade curse listed in Kaneki’s warning; its technique is unknown 11. |
Maximum Technique: Uzumaki
Uzumaki combines controlled cursed spirits into a concentrated attack of extraordinarily dense cursed energy 11 14.
- Sacrifices the spirits used, reducing the variety available through Cursed Spirit Manipulation 11.
- Can extract techniques from spirits of semi-grade 1 or above 11.
- An extracted technique’s precision depends on the spirit’s proficiency before death and cannot subsequently improve 11.
- Kenjaku uses it against Mahoraga, but the shikigami survives and regenerates 18.
- Attempts to conceal a miniature Uzumaki during the group battle 23.
Anti-Gravity System and Gravity
Kaori Itadori’s technique produces anti-gravity through its standard application and gravity through Cursed Technique Reversal 8 11.
- Anti-gravity: Steadies Kenjaku after he is knocked through the air 45.
- Gravity: Crushes Mahito before he can complete his 0.2-second Domain Expansion and pins opponents during combat 6 20 23.
- Close-range coverage: One demonstrated application spreads indiscriminately across a three-meter radius, allowing Todo’s swaps to turn it against Uraume 45.
- Countermeasure: Kusakabe’s Simple Domain substantially weakens its pressure 18.
- Black hole survival: The narration recounts Kenjaku surviving a black hole by treating his own body as a domain for the lapse of Anti-Gravity System; this is not a newly shown feat in the current battle 50.
Domain Expansion: Womb Profusion
Womb Profusion is an open-barrier domain with a gravity-based effect. Its manifestation resembles a massive tree formed from grotesque, wailing heads 11 19 45.
- Crushes Okkotsu’s initial Authentic Mutual Love within roughly one to two seconds 19 20.
- Pins Mahoraga with overwhelming gravity 19.
- Its lack of an outer shell complicates Tengen’s attempted dismantling strategy in Kaneki’s described future 15.
- Collapses after Kaneki lands a Black Flash that severely injures Kenjaku 23.
Reverse Cursed Technique and Burnout Recovery
Kenjaku uses Reverse Cursed Technique to heal and restore access to burned-out techniques 10 22 45.
- Recognizes that destroying and repairing the technique-bearing region of the right prefrontal cortex can reset cursed technique burnout 22.
- Performs the reset in less time than his own thirty-second maximum estimate 22.
- Okkotsu estimates that he can safely reset his brain approximately twice, permitting about three domain expansions; this is an assessment, not a confirmed hard limit 24.
Barrier Knowledge and Anti-Domain Techniques
Kenjaku’s extensive barrier knowledge lets him rapidly interpret opponents’ defenses and plans 16 19 23.
- Uses Hollow Wicker Basket against Authentic Mutual Love’s sure-hit effect 21.
- Alternates Hollow Wicker Basket with Simple Domain to refresh his protection and prolong resistance 22.
- Quickly recognizes Tengen’s intentions when the battlefield becomes an Emptiness Barrier 19.
- Identifies that Okkotsu’s modified barrier cannot withstand his open-barrier domain indefinitely 23.
Equipment / Items
- Prison Realm — Carries the object containing the sealed Satoru Gojo when leaving Shibuya 3 9.
- Five-Strap Kasaya — His clothing while occupying Geto’s body 2 6.
Relationships
- Ken Kaneki — Childhood acquaintance through Kaori’s body, temporary bargaining partner, and later a priority target. Kaneki’s future knowledge and rapid growth repeatedly disrupt his plans 2 3 6 17.
- Suguru Geto — Current host. Kenjaku prizes his body for Cursed Spirit Manipulation, but the body briefly resists him when prompted by an imitation of Gojo’s voice 2 8 46.
- Kaori Itadori — Former host and source of Anti-Gravity System 2 8.
- Mahito — Initially a collaborator; later forcibly absorbed and sacrificed to extract Idle Transfiguration 2 6 7 28.
- Uraume — Combat ally who restrains Kenjaku’s opponents and enables his escape after the first Star Corridor battle 7 23.
- Tachibana Mio — Ally whose equivalent-contract technique boosts his cursed energy and helps secure Sukuna’s control over Itadori 20 46.
- Ryomen Sukuna — Ally whose dominance Kenjaku treats as compatible with his plan. Kenjaku and Mio help turn Itadori’s body into a prison for Itadori rather than Sukuna 2 46.
- Tengen — Central target of the merger scheme; Kaneki warns that Kenjaku can absorb her through Cursed Spirit Manipulation 12 14.
- Yuki Tsukumo — Ideological and combat opponent. Her death at his hands occurs in Kaneki’s described future, not in the supplied current events 12 14 23 45.
- Yuta Okkotsu — Enemy whom Kenjaku initially dismisses as incapable of killing him. Kaneki identifies Okkotsu as his future killer, and Okkotsu nearly strikes his exposed brain in the altered timeline 2 21 22.
- Choso — Enemy whom Kenjaku ordered to kill Itadori before Choso recognized him as his younger brother 7.
