Background / History
Kuang Dao began playing online games at fifteen. Before entering Chronicles of the Sky, he was known within the War Hero Family’s Ninth Branch as a capable Warrior in both PvP and dungeon runs, though his reputation was among ordinary players rather than professionals 30 31.
Defeat by the Beaconfire Team
In Light of Freedom, Kuang Dao encountered Lan Xi while pursuing a War Hero kill order. Despite bringing three subordinates, he suffered a crushing defeat: the four attackers failed to remove even one point of Lan Xi’s health. Recognizing the gap in equipment and skill, Kuang Dao decided that his next attempt would rely on more guild members 30.
The following day, Xiaoxiao Xingxing repeatedly killed him, including immediately after resurrection. Lan Xi and Deep Blue Temptation joined the fighting, and Kuang Dao lost three levels during the initial rout. Fire of the Fallen and Carefree Immortal subsequently completed the five-player Beaconfire lineup, which scattered five hundred-player War Hero raids over roughly two hours. Kuang Dao continued charging at the front to avoid losing face, suffering further repeated deaths 30.
War Hero’s paid posters then took the dispute to the forums, where the Wolf Hairs overwhelmed them. Kuang Dao became the main target of the insults; after three hours, he smashed his gaming helmet and stayed offline for half a month. He retained a lasting grudge against all five Beaconfire players 30 31.
Personality
Kuang Dao is outspoken, hotheaded, and deeply concerned with face. He resents well-equipped Mages because of his experience with Lan Xi, and initially dismisses Ye Fengxing’s technique while envying his apparent equipment advantage. His bravado is not always sincere: he recognizes the Mage’s skill but publicly belittles him to maintain his group’s confidence 30 34.
His grudges can escalate far beyond the original dispute. After defeating four players in a fight over an herb, he mobilized the guild to hunt them until two deleted their characters, one stopped playing, and the last was left with nothing. He also conceals his irritation beneath outward generosity, telling Xiao Xiaoxian that his admiration for Carefree Immortal is acceptable while privately resenting it 35.
As a superior, he frequently vents frustration on subordinates. He blames teammates after his own death and criticizes healers during the cave assault despite understanding why they cannot target the attackers inside. Members privately resent these outbursts but avoid confronting him because of his authority and control over their employment benefits 41 47.
Despite his temper, Kuang Dao can put divisional interests ahead of revenge. He accepts Yi Yan’s argument that chasing a skilled opponent may damage the division’s leveling progress. He also shows political awareness when Cloud Pavilion arrives, reconsidering the Mage’s identity and deliberately questioning Xiao Xiaoxian aloud to observe his unguarded reaction 42 50.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Iron boots — Worn during the Southern Islands expedition 29.
- Gaming helmet — Smashed in anger during the forum backlash following his defeat by Beaconfire 31.
- Yellow Shield — desired, not obtained — A top-tier shield associated with the King of the Scarabs. Kuang Dao believes its attributes would remain useful at level thirty, and Yi Yan promises him the first one if it drops 35.
Relationships
- War Hero Yi Yan — Division leader, old friend, and former superior. Kuang Dao respects his authority, relies on his tactical advice, and can usually be calmed by him even when others cannot intervene 29 35 41 47.
- War Hero Ninth Brother — Leader of the Ninth Branch. Kuang Dao suspects him of deliberately disadvantaging their division with difficult territory and the smallest pioneering budget 29.
- Lan Xi — Professional Mage who humiliates Kuang Dao in Light of Freedom, beginning his feud with Beaconfire and resentment toward well-equipped Mages 30 31.
- Xiaoxiao Xingxing — Beaconfire’s professional Shadow Assassin. His repeated killings leave Kuang Dao haunted by the experience and afraid of him “like a ghost” 30.
- Deep Blue Temptation, Fire of the Fallen, and Carefree Immortal — The other Beaconfire players involved in the rout; all become enduring targets of Kuang Dao’s hatred 30 31.
- Xiao Xiaoxian — Talented subordinate whose admiration for Carefree Immortal irritates Kuang Dao. Kuang Dao nevertheless recognizes his tactical ability and later consults him about the enemy Mage’s skill, while privately worrying about his growing involvement in Yi Yan’s decisions 35 47 50.
- Cold-Hearted — Assassin subordinate used for scouting and pursuit. Kuang Dao berates him for resurrecting against orders and initially treats his warning about the Mage as an excuse 35 36 40.
- Ye Fengxing / One Leaf Windwalk — Opponent in the Donar River conflict. Kuang Dao moves from contempt to grudging admiration, eventually suspecting that the Mage is the famous One Leaf Windwalk himself without obtaining confirmation 30 41 50.
