Holy shit, no way! How could Mewtwo have noticed me?
That look scared Ye Qing half to death. Then it suddenly occurred to him that when his cheat checked a Pokémon's information, it probably used some kind of psychic power too. After all, the command came from his brain!
Cold sweat broke out across Ye Qing's back. He had actually dared to show off in front of the progenitor of the Psychic type. Wasn't that just asking for trouble?
Ye Qing lowered his head deeply, afraid to look Mewtwo in the eyes lest suspicion make Mewtwo blow his head apart.
Strangely, though, Mewtwo was fitted with a set of restraints. They connected to Mewtwo's brain and central nervous system and were impossible to notice without a close look.
Ye Qing frowned. Were these people using that device to keep Mewtwo under their control?
"Who am I? What is the meaning of my existence? Can anyone tell me?"
Mewtwo withdrew that gaze, and thunderous voices suddenly rang through everyone's minds. Ye Qing's head spun. The Pokémon League personnel surrounding them fared even worse-ninety percent of them passed out on the spot!
"What kind of being is this...?"
Mewtwo's power was terrifying beyond belief. Even the League personnel still standing had all but lost their ability to fight, collapsing to the ground in terror!
"What kind of trick is this? Dragonite, use Dragon Rush!"
The man in the sky was both shocked and furious. He shouted to bolster his courage, and Dragonite unleashed its full power. An enormous phantom dragon formed from energy around its body as it hurtled toward Mewtwo below!
"You overestimate yourself."
Mewtwo held one hand behind the back and made a slight sweeping motion with the other toward the seemingly unstoppable Dragonite.
Everyone watched as the Dragonite that had looked so invincible a moment ago was pinned in midair, then hurled to the ground before countless astonished eyes!
Boom!
Dust billowed everywhere. The massive Dragonite smashed a huge crater into the ground, while its trainer lay unconscious, covered in blood.
"Clear the battlefield! Hurry up and withdraw!"
Hydreigon's trainer barked orders. The League's reinforcements could arrive at any moment. Even with Mewtwo, they couldn't take on the entire League head-on.
Mewtwo's expression turned stern. Turning toward him, Mewtwo said coolly, "Did I say I was leaving?"
But the instant those words fell, the restraints blazed with blinding electricity. A moment later, Mewtwo, who had seemed like a god descending to earth, passed out.
The man recalled Hydreigon and ordered an elderly man, "Erase the memories of what just happened and put Mewtwo into dormancy."
"Yes, Lord Yanlang."
The old man bowed slightly and quickly set to work with his subordinates.
Yanlang turned toward his subordinates in the camp and swept his arm. "All squad leaders, count your people! Everyone aboard within one minute!"
"Yes!"
Four more officers in red uniforms nodded in acknowledgment, then each took up a position in front of a transport plane to gather their subordinates.
Ye Qing recalled Chimchar and exchanged a glance with Arcanine.
"Woof."
Understanding his intent, Arcanine gave a low bark toward the transport plane on the far left.
Yanlang pointed at the still-unconscious Dragonite and its trainer on the ground. "Take him and Dragonite into custody as well!"
Ye Qing recalled Arcanine, kept his head down, and quickly followed the group onto the transport plane. Fortunately, with the situation so tense, no one paid much attention to his unusual behavior.
Before long, all the transport planes took off and quickly disappeared into the distance.
Ye Qing glanced around out of the corner of his eye. His squad had ten people in total, including the leader in front of him. Before he could observe any further, the leader ordered, "Get back to your rooms and await orders! Medical staff will come to treat anyone who's injured!"
Shit, I have no idea which room is mine!
Cold sweat seeped down Ye Qing's back. As more and more people peeled away, he grew increasingly nervous.
Just as only two people remained, inspiration suddenly struck him. A moment later, his body went limp, and he collapsed onto the floor.
"Blood Bat! What's wrong?"
Seeing Ye Qing lying flat on the floor, the squad leader hurried over and patted his face.
Ye Qing carefully controlled his breathing. Although he knew an unconscious person would breathe very faintly, he had no experience with this and couldn't get it right. If the man checked his breathing, his act would very likely be exposed!
With the squad leader lingering beside him, Ye Qing's heart began racing uncontrollably. Tiny beads of sweat even appeared on his forehead.
The squad leader's brows knitted tightly. He genuinely feared something had happened to his capable subordinate. Just as he reached out to feel the carotid artery in Ye Qing's neck, the last remaining man suddenly spoke.
"Sir, when I was coming back, I saw Blood Bat had just escaped from Nidoking. He might have been injured."
"Mm. Put him back in his room first."
The squad leader glanced at Ye Qing's still-rising chest, nodded lightly, and withdrew his hand as he gave the order.
Hearing that, Ye Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief. Then he felt someone hoist him up, and a short while later, he was placed inside a room.
Ye Qing didn't move. Before long, the door opened again. He felt all his clothes being stripped off, and after briefly treating his wounds, the person hurried away.
Only much later, once he was certain the room was empty, did Ye Qing quietly open his eyes.
It was a small room, with barely any space to stand aside from the single bed.
He let Chimchar out. The little fellow never wanted to spend an extra moment inside a Poké Ball and immediately tried to climb onto Ye Qing's head.
"You're getting out of hand!"
Ye Qing yanked him down and smacked his backside a few times.
"Chim!"
The slaps didn't hurt, but they were deeply humiliating. Tears welled in Chimchar's eyes as he pointed at Ye Qing's nose and berated him.
"You're the son! The son!" Ye Qing had been in a foul mood throughout the journey and immediately started arguing with him.
"Chim!"
Refusing to back down, Chimchar widened his eyes and kept pointing at Ye Qing as he angrily scolded him.
"You little brat! If I don't teach you a lesson, you really won't know who's the father and who's the son!"
A beam of red light shot from the Great Ball, instantly sucking the still-ranting Chimchar inside.
"Peace at last."
Ye Qing exhaled in relief and leaned quietly against the headboard, feeling utterly uncertain about his future.
He wondered how a perfectly good camping trip had landed him in so many infuriating situations. Being chased by a flock of Spearow was bad enough, but now he had even been forced to infiltrate a criminal organization.
The League had probably confirmed Mewtwo's existence by now, which meant he had only one task left: obtain detailed information on Mewtwo.
But could he really succeed with just himself and Arcanine?
Ye Qing tossed and turned, unable to sleep. If only Mewtwo's data were the same as in the games. Then couldn't he simply write it all down from memory and finish the job?
He shook his head, banished that unrealistic idea, and took out the magnetic card again to see whether he could figure out anything else.
