Background / History
Tang San is a transmigrator who retains his identity as a Tang Sect disciple from another world. Even after years on the Douluo Continent, he follows the sect’s rules concerning personal safety. His familiarity with its techniques later leads him to mistake Ghost Douluo for a fellow transmigrator 131 152 153.
He is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin, a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor who took human form. Ah Yin sacrificed herself on the day Tang San was born. Tang Hao subsequently wandered with his son, hiding and moving between places before settling in Holy Soul Village; neither father nor son originally came from the village 87 174 295 326.
Tang San first met Yu Xiaogang in Nuoding City and became his student. He later attended Shrek Academy, where Xiao Wu and his fellow students commonly addressed him as Little San or Third Brother 170 211 415.
Appearance
- Initially described as a young boy accompanying Tang Hao 149.
- His Blue Silver Emperor awakening changes his appearance and height, although the passages do not specify the resulting facial features 297.
- During the awakening, blue radiance surrounds him and golden patterns appear on the Blue Silver Grass covering his body 297.
- Bears a golden Trident Mark between his brows after the Sea God selects him; it is initially extremely faint 270.
- As the Sea God, wears sea-blue divine armor and carries a golden trident. His ascension produces an enormous armored image of himself visible from hundreds of miles away 470.
Personality
Tang San is intensely proud of the Tang Sect’s arts. He insists that its hidden weapons are unrivaled even when he cannot manufacture their strongest examples. Xiao Wu privately considers him outwardly strong but inwardly fragile, particularly when others question him 61.
His obedience to Tang Hao is tempered by self-preservation. He initially accepts his father’s instructions without argument, but later refuses to enter Spirit City without a convincing reason, believing that placing his life in Tang Hao’s hands would violate Tang Sect rules. Repeated disappointments further erode his trust 110 131 294.
Recognition by the Sea God reinforces his belief that his transmigration was heaven’s mandate. He imagines using godhood to punish his enemies and restore the Clear Sky Sect’s supremacy 268 270 279.
His attachment to Xiao Wu becomes possessive when he discovers her intimacy with another man. Although he initially tells himself that her safety is enough, he subsequently judges her to be wrong simply for not being with him and decides that Lin Xiao deserves death 369.
Tang San rewards useful allies but demands loyalty. After becoming a god, he strengthens his companions while privately recognizing their value as future subordinates. His decision to kill Tang Hao horrifies those companions, whom he then warns not to betray him as his father did 470 471.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses the Clear Sky Hammer and an inherited plant martial soul initially identified as Blue Silver Grass. Tang Hao explains that its true nature is the Blue Silver Emperor, whose power can coexist in balance with the hammer 157 221 295.
- Blue Silver Emperor awakening: Improves Tang San’s body and strength and fulfills a prerequisite for his divine trial 297.
- Plant manipulation: Uses Blue Silver Emperor vines to bind and strangle Tang Hao; afterward, manipulates Blue Silver Grass like tentacles to gather soul bones 470.
- Regenerative potential: Tang Hao attributes extraordinary vitality and limb-regrowth potential to the Blue Silver Emperor. However, Tang San cannot confirm that his missing body part has recovered after awakening 157 297.
Purple Demon Eye
A Tang Sect secret art that sharpens Tang San’s vision and observation 295 369.
- Helps him notice Yu Xiaogang’s unusual expression in a secluded alley 295.
- Turns his eyes purple and emits two beams of purple light when he scrutinizes the image of Xiao Wu 369.
- Confirms the presence of another person’s hand in Xiao Wu’s bed rather than dispelling it as an illusion 369.
Hidden-Weapon Knowledge
Tang San knows and strongly champions Tang Sect hidden weapons 61.
- States that the weapons he has displayed represent only a fraction of their possible power 61.
- Cannot yet manufacture the truly powerful hidden weapons at that point 61.
- Recognizes Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track when Ghost Douluo uses it, demonstrating familiarity with Tang Sect movement arts; the supplied passages do not show Tang San performing that technique himself 152.
Soul-Power Examination
- Uses his soul power to examine Tang Hao’s body when he fears that something is wrong during the Sea God trials 330.
Sea God Authority
After inheriting the divine position, Tang San wields divine power through the Sea God Trident and receives the worship of Sea God Island’s inhabitants 470.
- Cultivation enhancement: Raises Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun to the Titled Douluo realm and strengthens six Sacred Pillar Guardians 471.
- Power of faith: Perceives worship as fine golden threads converging on him and recognizes them through his inherited memories 470.
- Sacred Pillar interaction: Before becoming a god, causes the Sea Horse Sacred Pillar to illuminate with a thought 397.
- Divine pressure: His trident’s might forces surrounding people to prostrate themselves during his ascension 470.
Sea God Thirteen Forms
- Gone Without Return: Throws the Sea God Trident at Bibi Dong using this named form 473.
- Direct trident attacks: Uses the weapon against Qian Daoliu and strikes Bo Saixi hard enough to send her plummeting despite her attempt to block 473.
Destruction Imprint
The God King of Destruction places an imprint within Tang San’s divine soul after his ascension 470.
- Can be activated to unleash a God King’s strike against a powerful enemy 470.
- Accompanies an order to investigate and destroy the source of turmoil in the lower realm at any cost 470.

- Sea God Divine Armor — Sea-blue armor formed when his fused soul bones extend from his body and join together 470.

- Lucky Magic Hammer — Used in connection with opening lucky jars 369.
- Mountain Grapes — Receives two bunches from jars during his early visit with Tang Hao 152.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father, protector, and principal supporter of his cultivation. Their relationship deteriorates over broken promises and Tang Hao’s resistance to sacrificing himself for Tang San’s inheritance. Tang San ultimately declares him an enemy and kills him 110 294 369 470.
- Ah Yin — Mother and source of his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. Yu Xiaogang later recounts that Tang San and Tang Hao compelled her, after her return from death, to sacrifice herself again to awaken Tang San’s martial soul 295 416.
- Xiao Wu — Close Shrek companion whom he searches for after her disappearance. Her departure is motivated by fear that her soul-beast identity will endanger him. By their final documented meeting, she willingly serves Lin Xiao and regards Tang San as an ordinary passerby 83 110 474.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher first encountered in Nuoding City. Tang San continues addressing him as Teacher, but Yu Xiaogang later accuses him of abandoning his pledge that a teacher is a father for life and allowing Tang Hao to mistreat him 295 415.
- Dai Mubai — Shrek companion and fellow participant in the Sea God trials. Tang San helps him complete his First Trial and later elevates him to Titled Douluo 268 397 471.
- Oscar and Ma Hongjun — Companions who credit Tang San with helping them become Soul Ancestors. They remain with him during his difficulties and receive divine cultivation enhancements after his ascension 397 471.
- Tang Chen — Great-grandfather and Clear Sky Sect ancestor. On learning of Tang San’s twin martial souls, he urges Tang Hao to bring him to Sea God Island for divine trials 221 470.
- Former Sea God — Selects Tang San as successor, later waives his remaining trials in exchange for killing Tang Hao, and transfers the divine position to him 270 470.
- God King of Destruction — Assigns Tang San a mission in the lower realm and grants the Destruction Imprint 470.
- Lin Xiao — Jar-shop owner whom Tang San comes to hate over Xiao Wu. Tang San recognizes that Lin Xiao’s strength is beyond his reach before his own ascension and confronts him again in the finale 369 474.
- Deep Sea Demonic Whale King — Subordinate who states that Tang San promised him freedom if he destroyed the Heaven Dou Empire 473.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Shrek and Xiao Wu’s Departure
Tang San’s first supplied encounter with a top-tier Douluo Continent Soul Master occurs when Sword Douluo arrives at Shrek. He compares the newcomer’s aura with that of powerful Tang Sect elders, while Xiao Wu hides behind him in fear 59.
After concluding that a human Titled Douluo has discovered her true origins, Xiao Wu leaves for the depths of the Star Dou Great Forest. Tang San wants to remain and search for her, but Tang Hao orders him to stop, withholding the reason 83 110.
Jars and the Spirit Hall Ambush
Tang Hao brings Tang San toward Spirit City, despite its hostility to the Clear Sky Sect. Tang San initially challenges the decision on safety grounds, but eventually visits the jar shop and receives Mountain Grapes among his results 130 131 149 152.
Spirit Hall elders subsequently ambush father and son. Seeing Ghost Douluo use Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Tang San assumes he may be another Tang Sect transmigrator and hopes to ask whether returning to their original world is possible. Tang Hao later explains that the technique probably came from a jar, overturning that assumption 152 153 157.
A later wanted poster identifies him as “Outlaw Madman, Tang San.” His first reaction is to wonder whether it concerns someone with the same name 212.
Sea God Selection and Bloodline Awakening
Tang San reaches Sea God Island with Tang Hao and Dai Mubai. His assessment surpasses the top-tier trials and identifies him as a prospective divine successor, but the inheritance remains locked behind two preliminary tasks 268 270 271.
Tang Hao proposes using the Blue Silver King’s sacrifice to awaken his bloodline, and the two travel to its forest. Tang San eventually awakens the Blue Silver Emperor in Spirit City and announces the start of his Sea God Trial. Yu Xiaogang’s later account attributes this awakening to Ah Yin’s second sacrifice 271 288 297 416.
Trials and Growing Independence
Tang San pursues his own access to jars, spending a million Gold Soul Coins to obtain ten. He privately rejects Tang Hao’s attempt to keep him dependent by stopping his cultivation 369.
He later helps Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun complete their First Trial, explaining that assisting them also fulfills his own trial requirements. The group prepares to return to the continent for the Continental Soul Master Tournament and seek an academy through which they can compete 397 454.
Patricide and Divine Inheritance
After the destruction of Sea God Island, Tang San finds Tang Hao mortally wounded. He accuses his father of obstructing his godhood and having wanted to kill him to avoid sacrificing himself 470.
The former Sea God offers to waive the remaining trials if Tang San kills Tang Hao and absorbs his divine power. Tang San complies, strangling his father with the Blue Silver Emperor. He then refines selected soul bones, reaches level 99, and inherits the Sea God’s position 470.
Continental War and Final Confrontation
Tang San rewards his companions and Sacred Pillar Guardians before assembling an army of fifty thousand sea Soul Masters, supported by countless sea soul beasts. He intends to exploit the tournament’s dispersal of continental forces across the empires and Spirit City 471 472.
At Spirit City, he introduces himself as both the current Sea God and heir to the Clear Sky Sect. When his army struggles against Spirit Hall’s defenders and hidden weapons, he seeks a quick resolution by attacking Qian Daoliu, Bo Saixi, and Bibi Dong directly 473.
In the final supplied scene, he confronts Lin Xiao and asks Xiao Wu whether she was forced into serving him. Her immediate denial, followed by her description of Tang San as an ordinary passerby, leaves him devastated 474.
