Background / History
Clear Sky Sect and Ah Yin
Tang Hao was born into the Clear Sky Sect and became renowned as the Clear Sky Douluo. He had held the distinction of the Douluo Continent’s youngest Titled Douluo before recognizing that Qin Xiao had surpassed him 14.
He and Ah Yin, the Blue Silver Emperor, had a son, Tang San. Tang Hao later blamed himself for taking Ah Yin to Spirit City, where she attracted Spirit Hall’s attention. During the ensuing conflict, his Ring Detonation severely wounded Supreme Pontiff Qian Xunji and several elders, but left Tang Hao with lasting injuries 15 17.
Tang Hao expelled himself from the Clear Sky Sect and lived a wandering life, presenting himself as a down-and-out blacksmith. His departure did not settle his standing with the sect: its elders continued to blame him for the conflict with Spirit Hall and the sect’s withdrawal into seclusion 17 77 79.
Conflict with Qin Xiao
After watching Qin Xiao at Shrek Academy, Tang Hao confronted him in a secluded forest. He demanded that Qin Xiao leave the academy and keep Xiao Wu’s identity secret, offering compensation before resorting to threats. Qin Xiao refused and overwhelmed him despite his use of Clear Sky secret techniques and Ring Detonation 7 14 15.
Tang Hao then revealed his family history to Tang San and Xiao Wu. He entrusted Tang San to Xiao Wu’s protection in the Star Dou Great Forest while seeking help from Tang Xiao through Tang Yuehua’s Moonlight Pavilion 17 25 26.
The brothers attacked Qin Xiao together. Tang Xiao shielded Tang Hao from the Titan Sky Cannon and urged him to retreat; Tang Hao fled, leaving his brother behind. Qin Xiao subsequently defeated Tang Xiao, whose death Tang Hao later reported to Tang San 39 40 41 66.
Attack on Ten Thousand Beasts Academy
Tang Hao targeted Meng Yiran for her external Soul Bone, valuing it because it would not occupy any of his already-filled Soul Bone slots. To protect the Clear Sky Sect’s reputation, he declared that everyone who witnessed his actions or recognized his hammer had to die 53.
He defeated Dragon Duke and Snake Granny’s Martial Soul Fusion Skill with the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes. Snake Granny ruptured her own meridians rather than surrender Meng Yiran, while Dragon Duke self-detonated. Tang Hao survived and began slaughtering the academy’s students 54.
Failed Refuges and Ah Yin’s Apparent Death
Tang Hao arranged for Tang San to study in Heaven Dou City under Tai Tan and the Strength Clan’s protection, unaware that the clan had already been destroyed. After learning Qin Xiao was nearby, father and son fled to Sunset Forest. There, Tang Hao threatened Dugu Yan over the harvested Immortal Herbs, but backed down and apologized when Dugu Bo intervened 66 69 70.
A visit to the Clear Sky Sect ended in another confrontation. Four elders tried to capture Tang Hao to exchange him for their imprisoned Third Elder. He detonated his ninth Soul Ring to escape with Tang San, worsening his injuries 77 78.
Tang Hao then took Tang San to the hidden cave where Ah Yin survived as Blue Silver Grass. Qin Xiao had already removed her and substituted an ordinary plant scorched by lightning. Believing the dead plant was Ah Yin, Tang Hao broke down, while Tang San blamed him for leaving her exposed 78 79.
Tang San’s Training and Sect Leadership
With both Ah Yin and the Blue Silver King unavailable, Tang Hao concluded that Tang San could no longer awaken his Blue Silver Emperor Martial Soul. He admitted that he had prioritized Tang San’s future over Ah Yin’s recovery, relying on his son to avenge the family and restore the Clear Sky Sect 86.
He destroyed Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul while preserving the Clear Sky Hammer. The procedure also left Tang San with genital numbness and an inability to have children, which Tang Hao dismissed as a minor flaw compared with the preserved cultivation potential. He planned to strengthen the hammer with three Soul Rings of at least three thousand years each before sending Tang San to Slaughter City 87 88.
After discovering the Clear Sky Sect’s destruction, Tang Hao refused Tang Hu’s request to lead its survivors, citing his self-expulsion and the danger posed by Qin Xiao. He later accepted the Clear Sky Token and the sect-master position from his grandfather, Tang Chen, who reaffirmed his appointment after recovering 123 130 131 170.
Tang Hao subsequently sought admission to Thunder Academy for Tang San, hoping a tournament championship would restore the sect’s reputation. Instead, Yu Luomian ordered their capture. Tang Hao fought Zhao Wuji, Liu Erlong, and the academy’s other defenders before escaping with his son without using Ring Detonation 178 183 184.
Captivity and Forced Sacrifice
Qin Xiao eventually subdued Tang Hao and sealed his cultivation and speech. During captivity, Tang Hao recognized the restored Ah Yin, only to discover that she regarded him as Qin Xiao’s enemy and wanted to strangle him 194 195.
Qin Xiao brought him to Sea God Island as a replacement for Bo Saixi. He forced Tang Hao through the trials, including carrying him up seven hundred steps and weakening the tides for body tempering. When Tang Hao gained power and plotted to kill Qin Xiao and Bo Saixi, Qin Xiao destroyed the recovered strength and then his meridians 196 197 198.
During the inheritance ceremony, Bo Saixi transferred her position to Tang Hao. His power surged, but he lost control of his body and began sacrificing himself. Tang San arrived as a god; rather than rescue his father, he attacked him with the Clear Sky Divine Hammer. The Sea God’s barrier blocked the strike 216.
Appearance
- Build: Burly, with large, rough hands 26 66.
- Face and hair: Unkempt face and disheveled hair 14 66.
- Clothing: Wears a black hooded cloak during his first confrontation with Qin Xiao; later appears in tattered clothes resembling a roadside beggar 14 66.
- Presence: Projects a wild, domineering aura despite his shabby appearance 66.
Personality
Tang Hao is proud, forceful, and accustomed to intimidating opponents through his reputation. He initially treats his favor as sufficient compensation to make Qin Xiao leave Shrek, and later expects Thunder Academy’s dean to welcome him personally. Repeated defeats nevertheless force him into concessions, including an apology to Dugu Bo 14 70 183.
His concern for Tang San is inseparable from his ambitions for revenge and sect restoration. He refuses to risk fatal Ring Detonation partly because his son would be left vulnerable, yet dismisses the lasting harm caused by destroying Tang San’s Martial Soul as negligible beside his future potential 15 86 87.
His attachment to the Clear Sky Sect conflicts with his self-preservation. He longs to revisit his homeland and imagines becoming its indispensable leader after Tang Xiao’s death, but refuses responsibility when its surviving disciples need protection 68 76 123.
