Background / History

Expulsion from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, but his martial soul mutated rather than becoming a pure Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. With innate soul power of only half a rank, he was expelled from the clan. By middle age, he still had not broken through to rank thirty. His mutation and expulsion remained deeply painful subjects 56.

He became Tang San’s teacher and served as an instructor at Shrek Academy. Alongside Flender and Liu Erlong, he belonged to the Golden Iron Triangle 26 31 75.

Preparing Shrek for the Imperial Fighting Team

When the Heaven Dou Great Soul Arena proposed a team match against the Imperial Fighting Team, Yu Xiaogang delayed accepting until he had studied their strength. After several days of observation and gathering member information, he supported the match as a valuable trial for Shrek’s students—even if they ultimately lost 31 44.

Zhu Zhuqing’s absence left Shrek short of a member, but he insisted that the team find a substitute rather than abandon the opportunity. When she returned, he intended to arrange her third soul ring, only to discover that she had already reached rank thirty and obtained it with help from Qian Renyue’s group 31.

He singled out Qian Renyue in the opposing team’s profiles and urged Tang San not to let personal feelings interfere with the match. At first, he rejected the idea that she could be Tang Yue: he could not reconcile Tang Yue’s ordinary lotus martial soul and half-rank innate soul power with Qian Renyue’s rapid rise to rank thirty-five 44 45.

During the battle, he recognized a special weapon he remembered seeing in Spirit Hall’s custody. He also identified Qian Renyue’s ice as Ultimate Ice. Her exceptional power made him hope that she really was Tang Yue and could be claimed as a Shrek student, despite Shrek having previously refused her admission for insufficient talent 48 50.

Afterward, Qian Renyue publicly questioned how his mutated martial soul could belong to the same family as Yu Tianheng’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. Her knowledge of a martial soul he had previously shown Tang Yue convinced him of her identity, although she refused to acknowledge him 56.

Defeat in Sunset Forest

After Dugu Bo abducted Tang San, Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong went to Sunset Forest to find him. Qian Renyue falsely announced Tang San’s death and presented a scrap of his clothing. Yu Xiaogang was devastated and nearly collapsed before Liu Erlong supported him 75.

Guang Ling defeated his companions and kicked Yu Xiaogang into a tree. Unable to resist, Yu Xiaogang invoked Tang Hao’s reputation as the Clear Sky Douluo, but the threat failed 75.

He then claimed to know where Qian Renyue’s parents were, briefly stopping Guang Ling from firing. He had learned about her origins from Tang Hao after the arena incident and subsequently obtained another secret from Bibi Dong. He regarded this information as leverage that would keep him alive 76.

The reprieve did not last. An arrow burned through his calf and damaged its meridians, and Qian Renyue repeatedly struck him with her poisonous fusion-skill whip. By the time Tang San found him, he had extensive external wounds, damaged vital organs, and fading consciousness 76 77.

Tang Hao intervened, but Qian Renyue defeated Tang San and approached the unconscious Yu Xiaogang with a kitchen knife. Her attack left him castrated, as confirmed by his later appearance. Tang Hao initially carried him away, although doing so hindered the escape 78 80 96.

Abandonment, Poisoning, and Recovery

Tang Hao ultimately left Yu Xiaogang behind rather than bringing him to Tang Yuehua with Tang San. Yu Xiaogang later appeared in Heaven Dou City as a bloodstained beggar, where Qian Renyue encountered him again 96 108.

Green Yaxin subsequently dealt with him and had him transported out of the city in a garbage cart. Tang Yuehua, Flender, and Liu Erlong organized searches; Moonlight Pavilion’s help eventually led to his recovery. He was taken to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan for treatment 104 109 120 139.

His condition included a poisoned stroke caused by Green Yaxin. He could make only incoherent sounds through a crooked mouth, though Liu Erlong reported brief periods when he could say simple words. A pouch carrying Xin’er’s aura also distressed him 139 144 164.

Within the following year, he recovered sufficiently to travel and speak normally, though his body remained mutilated. He later explained that Tang San had cured him with an unidentified immortal herb 164 199.

Return to Spirit Hall

Yu Xiaogang returned to Bibi Dong to demand a method for cultivating twin martial souls for his disciple. They failed to reach an agreement, and Liu Erlong confronted him outside Spirit Hall over the visit. He eventually soothed her and led her away 164.

When Tang San sought Xiao Wu, Yu Xiaogang refused to take him into Spirit Hall. He knew his own access depended on Bibi Dong’s lingering affection and believed Tang San would be killed if discovered. Instead, he repeatedly questioned Bibi Dong himself 168.

Bibi Dong eventually directed him toward Qian Renyue and the Worship Hall. He protested that going there would endanger his life and insisted that Bibi Dong should help him. The exchange ended with her ordering him out 170.

He was subsequently detained under Bibi Dong’s pronouncement and Qian Renyue’s orders. While interrogating him, Qian Renyue obtained testimony that reinforced her suspicions about Bibi Dong’s connection to Xuan Ling. Yu Xiaogang was then paraded through Spirit City and beaten by Hu Liena and Xie Yue for shouting outside the Papal Hall 171 172.

Failed Rescue and Continued Imprisonment

Liu Erlong attacked his escorts and attempted to flee with him. Yu Xiaogang recognized that the public display was a trap and tried to warn her, but his swollen face made his speech difficult to understand. Qian Renyue and Guang Ling intercepted them near the Heaven Dou border and returned both to Spirit Hall’s dungeon 173.

When Bibi Dong entered the dungeon, Yu Xiaogang found himself trapped between her, Liu Erlong, and Qian Renyue. Revealing what he knew about Xuan Ling risked Bibi Dong’s retaliation; withholding it risked Qian Renyue’s. He abandoned his support for Liu Erlong and flattered Bibi Dong to preserve his own life 175.

Liu Erlong retaliated, accusing him of promising that he was merely using Bibi Dong to obtain the secret of twin martial souls and would afterward sever their relationship. Bibi Dong eventually took Liu Erlong away, leaving Yu Xiaogang imprisoned 176 177.

During a later interrogation, an evil aura briefly engulfed him, leading Guang Ling to suspect that he was entering the ranks of Fallen Soul Masters. Yu Xiaogang insisted that Xuan Ling had been in Bibi Dong’s hands and named Golden Crocodile Douluo as someone who could corroborate it. After Guang Ling left, he privately vowed to make Qian Renyue suffer the humiliation he had endured 198 199.

His pride is especially vulnerable where his martial soul and clan background are concerned. Qian Renyue’s public remarks about his mutation leave him angry and humiliated. His judgment of her also shifts with her demonstrated strength: he first doubts that she could be Tang Yue, then hopes to claim her as a Shrek student after witnessing Ultimate Ice 50 56.

He shows genuine distress when he believes Tang San has died, but becomes threatening and opportunistic when his own survival is at stake. He uses information about Qian Renyue’s parents as leverage, invokes Tang Hao to intimidate enemies, and changes his allegiance between Liu Erlong and Bibi Dong when one offers a better chance of protection 75 76 175.

His imprisonment deepens his resentment toward Qian Renyue. Even after pleading for his life, he privately promises revenge 198 199.
