Capture and Sacrifice

Guang Ling found the Ice Crystal Phoenix in the Far North and pursued him for three days and nights before exhaustion allowed his capture. The phoenix refused to be taken to Spirit Hall and threatened to turn himself into ice, so Guang Ling confined him in a cave instead 13 14.

When Tang Yue approached, she offered him a choice rather than forcing him to become her soul ring. Drawn to her aura, he recognized her as his master and voluntarily sacrificed himself, becoming her third soul ring and external soul bone 13 14.

Awakening and Protection

The phoenix regained self-awareness within Qian Renyue’s Ice Phoenix Wings through the nourishment of her bloodline and the effects of two immortal herbs. He assured her that recognizing a master meant lifelong loyalty, not possession or betrayal 37.

During her first confrontation with the Netherworld Flower Emperor, he advised caution and shielded her retreat. When Guang Ling subsequently mistook her for an illusion and attacked, Little Phoenix manifested through her soul ring, blasted him away, and treated her internal injuries 38 40 41.

He continued protecting her during battles with the Shrek Seven Devils and Tang Hao. Against Tang Hao, he broke through a separating barrier after sensing that her life was in danger; afterward, he spent substantial soul power healing her while she remained unconscious 48 79 80 82.

Origins and Divine Trials

Little Phoenix translated the Green Vine’s speech, revealing its connection to a nine-petal immortal lotus soul beast and providing an early clue to Qian Renyue’s ancestry. He opposed entering the Sunset Forest’s Core Area before she was strong enough to survive its inhabitants 70 71.

During the kindness second test, he supplied soul power, warned Qian Renyue about attacks, and identified the illusion forest’s Moon Blades as guardian beasts. When two unfamiliar powers later prevented her from awakening, he tried to stop Green Yaxin from exhausting herself and reported Qian Renyue’s condition to Guang Ling 106 107 110 111.

He helped Qian Renyue read Divine Rune Cultivation Principles and warned that completing divine runes would bring a potentially fatal heavenly tribulation. Although unable to reveal everything he knew about her divine thread, he accepted her determination to find her father and promised to remain beside her 121.

Human Form and Final Sacrifice

Little Phoenix first assumed human form at Bright Moon Hall. He attributed the transformation to accumulated soul power and also explained that Bibi Dong’s unusually evil aura had prompted him to emerge and warn his master 124 125.

After asking for a proper name, he was named Little Nine. He welcomed the name enthusiastically, although his familiar arguments with Guang Ling continued 126 127 128 129.

During Qian Renyue’s heavenly tribulation, Little Nine returned his soul to the Ice Phoenix Wings and wrapped them around her to intercept the second strike. The wings shattered, and his soul dissipated after absorbing most of the lightning’s force. Qian Renyue survived the strike but was devastated by his loss 165 170.

Appearance

Personality

Little Phoenix is fiercely loyal and protective. He becomes furious when Qian Renyue is injured, but can distinguish between immediate threats and distractions: during the Netherworld Flower Emperor battle, he pushes Tang San aside and urges her to deal with the beast first. His loyalty ultimately outweighs self-preservation 48 66 164 165.

He is boastful, mischievous, and quick to argue, especially with Guang Ling. He mocks Guang Ling’s jealousy, calls him a “show-off,” and attempts to interrupt his romantic moments with Qian Renyue. Nevertheless, he falls silent when she seriously reprimands him 60 95 103.

Despite his confidence, he has a naïve side. He delights in peaches, eagerly seeks his master’s approval, and is easily pleased by receiving a name. Sharing Qian Renyue’s emotions gradually makes his thinking more human 94 124 125 129.

Ultimate Ice and Defensive Manifestation

Little Phoenix possesses an exceptional ice attribute, described as ranking among the Far North’s top five. Its extreme cold does not fear ordinary fire-attribute martial souls 14.

• Qian Renyue / Tang Yue — Master and source of his renewed consciousness. Their bond becomes familial: she says she would like to raise him as a son if he had a physical body, and he ultimately dies protecting her 14 37 158 165.
• Guang Ling — Former captor and frequent rival. Their exchanges are filled with insults and teasing, but Guang Ling acknowledges that Little Phoenix is good-hearted 13 95 129 158.

• His age is inconsistently presented: Guang Ling initially estimates fifteen hundred years, his sacrificed ring and bone are ten-thousand-year, and Little Phoenix later claims to have lived for tens of thousands of years 10 14 64.
• Before meeting Qian Renyue, he says he lacked the intelligence to speak, transform, or give himself a name. He remains only partially literate when requesting one 126.
• Qian Renyue first suggests “Little Fierce,” which he rejects as tacky. He later happily accepts “Little Nine” 126 128 129.
• Guang Ling says he found only this one Ice Crystal Phoenix during his search of the Far North and jokes that another would give Little Nine a companion 137.
