Background / History

Shrek Academy and Zhao Su’s Recruitment

Flender founded Shrek Academy and belonged to the Golden Iron Triangle. He also operated a shop in Suotuo City, where Zhao Su encountered Tang San and Xiao Wu over a murky crystal. Zhao Su offered two hundred Gold Soul Coins; Flender returned half because the crystal cost only one hundred, but Zhao Su left the excess as a donation to Shrek Academy 7.

When Zhao Su later requested a teaching position, Flender witnessed his Emperor Seven Kill Sword and four Ten Thousand Year Soul Rings. He accepted Zhao Su’s qualifications and welcomed the sixteen-year-old into the academy 8 9.

After witnessing Zhao Su defeat Tang Hao, Flender questioned his identity and reasons for joining Shrek. Zhao Su declined to give a meaningful explanation, so Flender instead demanded that he not harm the children. Zhao Su promised to teach them personally 10.

Student Training and Yu Xiaogang’s Arrival

Flender introduced the students to soul fighting at Suotuo City’s Great Soul Arena. Later, he assigned Zhao Wuji to lead a Star Dou Great Forest expedition for Oscar’s soul ring and approved Zhao Su’s participation, believing his presence would keep the group safe 11 15.

The expedition returned with all seven students at rank thirty. Learning how Zhao Su had helped them, Flender regretted missing the opportunity to seek help with his own stalled cultivation 25.

When Yu Xiaogang disputed Zhao Su’s methods, Flender warned his old friend against acting rashly and explained that Zhao Su had beaten Tang Hao. He subsequently mediated the disagreement, tried to prevent Yu Xiaogang from leaving, and entrusted him with the students’ training after Zhao Su persuaded him to stay 26 27 28.

Relocation to Heaven Dou City

Following Shrek’s victory over the Imperial Fighting Team and a reunion with former student Qin Ming, Flender decided to move the academy to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. The arrangement collapsed after interference from Prince Xue Xing and Dugu Bo, and Flender agreed that the group should seek another home 34 35.

Flender selected Blue Tyrant Academy after learning that it admitted commoners rather than nobles. He declared that they would use it to challenge Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Liu Erlong subsequently renamed Blue Tyrant Academy Shrek Academy, appointed Flender dean, and made herself and Zhao Wuji vice deans 36 39.

Throughout the preceding five years, Flender had investigated Zhao Su’s origins without finding a clue. After sensing his immense spiritual power, he discussed with Liu Erlong and Yu Xiaogang whether Zhao Su might belong to Spirit Hall, but they could not confirm his intentions 39.

Tournament and Xiao Wu’s Protection

After receiving an immortal herb, Flender accompanied Liu Erlong and Yu Xiaogang on a soul-ring expedition, leaving the academy in Zhao Wuji’s care. He returned as a level-81 Soul Douluo and helped prepare Shrek’s teams for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament 40 46.

Flender accompanied the Shrek Seven Devils to Spirit City after they qualified for the finals. When Xiao Wu’s identity as a hundred-thousand-year soul beast was exposed, he joined Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong in defending her with their fusion skill. Following Tang Hao’s intervention, Zhao Su ordered Spirit Hall’s forces to let Shrek Academy leave 47 50.

Personality

Flender places his students’ safety above their identity or usefulness. He explicitly warns Zhao Su not to harm them and later protects Xiao Wu despite learning that she is a soul beast 10 50.

He is cautious around overwhelming power without abandoning practical cooperation. Although he investigates Zhao Su and remains suspicious of him, he accepts his teaching assistance and cultivation resources. He also acts as a mediator, protecting Yu Xiaogang from reckless confrontation and comforting him when Zhao Su’s abilities undermine his confidence in his theories 26 27 30 39 40.

Golden Sacred Dragon — Trinity Fusion Skill

Flender performs the Golden Iron Triangle’s three-in-one fusion skill with Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong, summoning the Golden Sacred Dragon 37 50.

• The trio uses it against Dugu Bo in Sunset Forest and to defend Xiao Wu in Spirit City 37 50.
• With Flender and Liu Erlong at level 82, the dragon becomes more imposing and is described as potentially capable of holding its own against a Titled Douluo 50.
• According to Zhao Su’s system, summoning the complete Golden Sacred Dragon requires Flender and Liu Erlong to reach Titled Douluo and Yu Xiaogang to reach Soul King 37.

• Zhao Wuji — Sworn friend and fellow academy leader. Flender sheltered him while Tai Tan was hunting him; Zhao Wuji later repeatedly asks Zhao Su to spare Flender’s life 10 38 41.
• Zhao Su — Recruited teacher, cultivation benefactor, and subject of Flender’s investigation. Zhao Su privately plans to take the Golden Sacred Dragon and offers to compensate Flender by helping him become a Titled Douluo; this advancement is not achieved in the supplied chapters 9 38 39 40.
