This man was Yue Guan, an elder of Spirit Hall who oversaw its criminal law. Like Ghost Douluo Gui Mei, he was a staunch supporter of Pope Bibi Dong.
His skin looked as soft and delicate as a baby's, and his bewitching appearance gave him a peculiar allure. He wore the Golden Armor and Red Robe that only a Titled Douluo was entitled to wear. The gemstone on his chest, as large as a baby's fist and gleaming with golden light, lent him an especially magnificent air.
If not for the Adam's apple at his throat, no one would have thought he was a man.
Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan's martial soul was the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, a neutral-natured plant immortal herb. He was exceptionally fond of rare flowers and herbs, and his knowledge of them surpassed even that of Poison Douluo Dugu Bo, who had studied medicines for years.
"Your Holiness, what did you summon me for?" Yue Guan placed his right hand over his left breast and bowed slightly to Bibi Dong.
At his words, Bibi Dong suddenly opened her eyes as she sat upon her throne. With a light wave of her hand, a surging current of soul power burst forth, sending the letter on the desk before her straight into Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan's hands.
"Xiao Yan, innate full soul power... his martial soul is a peculiar flame. Currently attending Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy. Tang San, martial soul: Blue Silver Grass, also possessing innate full soul power..." Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan slowly unfolded the letter and read it carefully. After a moment, he asked, "Your Holiness, would you like me to bring these two children back to Spirit Hall?"
"No." Bibi Dong rose from her throne. Her tall, alluring figure flickered, turning into a streak of purple radiance that appeared before Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan. She waved her hand and said:
"I want you to investigate the background of the second child, the one named Tang San. His martial soul is Blue Silver Grass, yet he also has innate full soul power. Don't you find that strange?"
"Blue Silver Grass? Innate full soul power? Your Holiness, could the person who registered him have made a mistake? How could a trash martial soul like Blue Silver Grass possess innate full soul power?" Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan asked, somewhat bewildered.
After all, it was difficult for a trash martial soul like Blue Silver Grass to awaken any soul power at all. How could it possess innate full soul power? Could it be a mutation? Yet the information seemed to make no mention of one.
Bibi Dong replied impatiently, "Yue Guan, stop asking so many questions. Set out for Holy Soul Village immediately, investigate Tang San's background thoroughly, and report back to me."
"Yes, Your Holiness. I will see to it at once." Having served Bibi Dong for many years, Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan knew her temper was unpredictable. Seeing her displeased expression, he answered respectfully and withdrew from the Pope's Hall.
Tang San... his surname is Tang, and he's six years old. The timing fits perfectly. The man who gravely wounded the previous pope also disappeared from this continent six years ago. He and that soul beast had a child then, and this Tang San's martial soul just happens to be Blue Silver Grass, the same as that soul beast's.
As she connected all these clues, Bibi Dong seemed to have discovered something.
Nuoding City.
To hone his forging skills and make it easier to craft Tang Sect Hidden Weapons in the future, Tang San went to a blacksmith shop in Nuoding City, intending to become an apprentice.
"Uncle, do you think I could be an apprentice?" Tang San found the blacksmith shop owner and asked.
The owner glanced at Tang San and froze for a moment before replying irritably, "Kid, you want to apprentice at a blacksmith shop at your age? Are you sure you're not here to make fun of me?"
Tang San explained, "Of course not. Don't worry, Uncle. My father is our village's blacksmith, and I've been learning to forge since I was little. Being an apprentice at a blacksmith shop shouldn't be much of a problem."
"Really?" After hearing Tang San's explanation, the blacksmith shop owner's expression softened. Thinking that they were both blacksmiths from poor backgrounds, he felt a little sympathy and said, "All right. If you're willing to work here, you're welcome to. By the way, you said you've been learning from your father since you were little. What did he teach you?"
"Forging, of course. Don't let my small size fool you. I've got plenty of strength. Forging ordinary pig iron is no problem at all," Tang San said.
"A little fellow like you, forging pig iron?" At Tang San's words, the blacksmith shop owner burst out laughing. He tossed a forging hammer in front of Tang San and said, "How about this? If you can lift this forging hammer, I'll believe you know how to forge."
"All right." Tang San reached out, gripped the handle, and lifted the forging hammer straight out in front of him.
"Hah!"
Tang San fixed his burning gaze on the pig iron in the furnace. Exhaling with a shout, he swung the forging hammer and brought it crashing down on a piece of pig iron.
A loud clang wiped the smiles from every blacksmith's face, replacing them with astonishment.
Then Tang San spun swiftly and swung the forging hammer again. With another deafening crash, the hammer struck the glowing pig iron even harder than before.
Circle after circle traced through the air as the rhythmic hammering continued to ring through the blacksmith shop.
"This... could this be the Strongest Continuous Forging Technique, the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer?"
"The Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer? What's that?"
"The Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer is a continuous hammering and forging technique that channels the force of one blow into the next, allowing you to bring out your full strength."
Not far away, a burly middle-aged man in a black robe watched the scene, a gratified smile rising unbidden to his lips.
A moment later, his figure vanished.
The next day.
Nuoding Academy, Teaching Building.
"Class, our classmates Xiao Yan, Tang San, and Xiao Wu have become honored soul masters. Let's give them a round of applause! Would the three of you introduce yourselves?" The homeroom teacher of the First-Year Work-Study Students was a woman.
She looked to be in her thirties, wearing an elegant, graceful white dress. She had a full, prominent bust and long brown hair that fell in large waves.
Xiao Yan walked up to the podium and surveyed the children below. All he managed to squeeze out was a single sentence: "Hello, everyone. My name is Xiao Yan, and I'm now a One-Ring Soul Master."
One second, two seconds... more than ten seconds passed.
"That's all?" The teacher looked rather surprised.
"Yes." Xiao Yan nodded slightly and returned to his seat.
"Hehe, all right." The teacher laughed awkwardly and said, "Then let's have Tang San and Xiao Wu introduce themselves next."
Tang San and Xiao Wu walked up to the podium together. Tang San was practically identical to Xiao Yan: after taking forever, all he managed was, "My name is Tang San," and nothing more. Xiao Wu, on the other hand, began talking to the children below in an endless stream.
Watching Xiao Wu chatter away at the podium, Xiao Yan let out a bored yawn. With nothing to occupy him, he began looking around.
Eventually, utterly bored, he picked up a pen and began drawing on the paper on his desk. He had done this often in his previous life on Blue Star, but it had been years since then. Suddenly revisiting it now felt rather enjoyable.
Some time ago, while cultivating, Xiao Yan had strapped his second martial soul to his back. Unfortunately, the Black Ruler was far too heavy and also suppressed his soul power. Coupled with his young age, this had made normal cultivation impossible.
This gave Xiao Yan the idea of forging an iron Black Ruler to use as an interim substitute.
Taking advantage of this time, Xiao Yan drew on his memories and began sketching a design for his second martial soul, the Black Ruler, on the paper on his desk.
