Background / History
Clear Sky Twin Stars
Tang Hao and his elder brother Tang Xiao were sons of the previous Clear Sky Sect master and the leading disciples of their generation. Known as the Clear Sky Twin Stars, they traveled outside the sect to gain experience. Tang Xiao was fifteen years older and guided much of Tang Hao’s training 134 207.
During their travels, both brothers fell in love with Ah Yin. The three became sworn siblings, with Ah Yin ranked third. Tang Xiao eventually withdrew so that Tang Hao and Ah Yin could be together. Ah Yin then revealed that she was the hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor approaching the maturity stage of her human transformation 134.
Tang Hao was also Tang Chen’s favored descendant. Tang Chen passed the Great Sumeru Hammer and Ring Detonation to him rather than to his own son 267.
Ah Yin’s Sacrifice
Tang Hao’s attempt to take Ah Yin back to the Clear Sky Sect attracted Spirit Hall’s attention. After he defeated its dispatched Titled Douluo, Qian Xunji demanded that the sect surrender the couple. Tang Hao’s already ill father died in anger, and Tang Hao did not return to the sect 134.
Tang Hao and Ah Yin married while in hiding. Near the birth of their children, he brought her out of the Star Dou Great Forest, ostensibly to pay respects to his father. Spirit Hall surrounded them, and Ah Yin sacrificed herself when Tang Hao was near death. He received her hundred-thousand-year soul ring and soul bone, fought back, and escaped with Xiao Yan and Tang San 134.
His account presented the sacrifice as a tragedy caused by Spirit Hall. Later revelations established that he had deliberately arranged the circumstances to obtain Ah Yin’s soul ring. Unable to decide whether to destroy the plant she became, he left her in a sunless cave and avoided confronting his guilt 248 249 355.
According to Tang Hao’s account, Qian Daoliu subsequently pursued the family, but a streak of fire from the infant Xiao Yan drove him away 134.
Life in Holy Soul Village
Tang Hao arrived in Holy Soul Village badly wounded with his sons. He told Old Jack that nobles had abducted and murdered his wife, concealing his actual history 7 37.
Although his inexpensive farming tools were well made, he spent his earnings on liquor. He slept through the mornings and forged in the afternoons when work was available. Old Jack supplied grain and vegetables that kept the children from starving 2 7.
His attitude toward Tang San changed abruptly after discovering the boy’s twin martial souls. He embraced him for the first time, improved his food, and began teaching him forging. Xiao Yan’s flame martial soul instead made Tang Hao suspect that he was not his biological son, leading to harsher chores, inferior food, and physical abuse 7 8 10 11.
Appearance
Tang Hao is tall and powerfully built, appearing to be in his fifties. His neglected appearance contrasts with his reputation as the Clear Sky Douluo 119 134.
- Clothing: Tattered robes, often patched; sometimes a black hood or black robe 119 134 150.
- Complexion: Bronze skin and a waxy, yellowish pallor 134 206.
- Hair and beard: Tangled hair resembling a bird’s nest and a long-untrimmed beard 119 134.
- Eyes: Usually bleary or dull; become blood-red when he releases intense killing intent 119 150 151.
- Other distinguishing features: Strong smell of alcohol and, later, a missing arm 119 249 350.
Personality
Tang Hao is neglectful and authoritarian at home. He expects his children to feed and serve him, initially opposes Tang San’s schooling because it would deprive him of a cook, and answers resistance with insults or violence. His favoritism rests heavily on Tang San’s inherited Clear Sky Hammer and perceived potential to avenge the family and restore the sect 2 7 10 11 94.
His treatment of Xiao Yan changes with his assessment of the boy’s usefulness. He first rejects him because of his unfamiliar martial soul, then urges reconciliation once Xiao Yan’s twin martial souls and growing strength become apparent. He invokes family loyalty while treating both sons as hopes for revenge against Spirit Hall 94 184 197.
Tang Hao’s affection for Ah Yin coexists with ambition, guilt, and self-deception. He regrets her suffering but also desires the power gained from her sacrifice. When confronted, he repeatedly shifts blame to Spirit Hall; the prospect of facing the revived Ah Yin terrifies him 138 248 249 354.
He also manipulates Xiao Wu’s devotion to Tang San. After admitting that he initially intended to kill her for her soul ring and soul bone, he uses Ah Yin’s story to encourage her willingness to sacrifice herself. His private satisfaction contradicts his outward promise to prevent another such tragedy 134.
Abilities & Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Hao’s martial soul is an enormous hammer used for direct strikes, projected energy attacks, and large-scale destruction 150 162.
- His nine-ring configuration is two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red 150 206.
- The red ninth ring comes from Ah Yin’s hundred-thousand-year sacrifice 134.
- He can launch black or blood-red hammer energy and split the ground with a strike 150 151.
- A ninth-ring-enhanced attack destroys buildings and trees within several hundred meters, providing cover for his escape with Tang San 162.
Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer
Also called Chaotic Cloak, this Clear Sky Sect technique uses the rebound from each collision to power the next swing. Successive strikes become stronger through coordinated movement 11 150.
- Used for both forging and combat 11 150.
- Begins with force generated through the calves rather than the waist alone 11.
- Taught to Tang San and learned by Xiao Yan during their childhood 11.
- Later forms the basis of Tang San’s waterfall training 216.
Divine Slaughter’s Domain
Tang Hao releases an intense aura of killing intent that chills and pressures opponents 150 151.
- Fully unleashed during his fights with Xiao Yan and Bibi Dong 151 207.
- Xiao Yan’s Heavenly Flames dispel its initial chilling effect 150.
- Remains part of Tang Hao’s arsenal until his cultivation is destroyed 257 258.
Clear Sky True Body
His seventh soul skill, also described as a Tool Soul Avatar, greatly enlarges the Clear Sky Hammer and increases his combat power 151 249.
- Can produce a hammer more than one hundred meters long 161 187 249.
- Combined with Chaotic Cloak to attack Xiao Yan over Heaven Dou City 161.
- Used against Bibi Dong and Spirit Hall’s elders at the Pope’s Hall 208.
Great Sumeru Hammer and Ring Detonation
The Great Sumeru Hammer allows Tang Hao to exceed his normal power through Ring Detonation, converting detonated soul rings into immediate strength 152 257.
- Requires exceptional talent and is passed to only one practitioner per generation 257.
- Tang Hao detonates six rings to defend against Xiao Yan’s Buddha’s Fury Fire Lotus 152.
- He detonates his first eight rings and attacks the Pope’s Hall to force Spirit Hall’s experts to defend it while he escapes 208.
- Uses Sumeru Sky-Shaking as an offensive application against Xiao Yan 257.
- After detonation, all soul rings disappear for three days; another use requires at least thirty-six days of recovery or risks permanently destroying the rings 152.
Defensive Techniques
- Clear Sky Body Protection: Creates an enormous white shield from gathered energy. Combined with Ring Detonation, it prevents Xiao Yan’s Fire Lotus from killing him, though he still suffers severe wounds 152.
- Clear Sky Possession: His sixth soul skill transforms the hammer into silver armor around his chest. Xiao Yan’s Mountain Splitting Seal breaks the armor and injures him 249.
Aura Sealing
Tang Hao uses soul power to suppress Xiao Wu’s soul-beast aura and conceal her identity 134.
- The seal can break if she is injured.
- He initially applies it so he can preserve her as a future source of a soul ring and soul bone for Tang San.
Blacksmithing
Tang Hao is a skilled blacksmith despite his poverty and drinking 7.
- Produces good-quality, inexpensive farming tools 7.
- Trains Tang San in forging and coordinated force generation 10 11.
- Resumes ordinary forge work after losing his cultivation 270.

- Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher. Tang Hao entrusts Tang San to him, but later threatens him over the soul rings added to the Clear Sky Hammer 37 184.
- Old Jack — Village chief who shelters the family and feeds the children. Their relationship is hostile because Jack challenges Tang Hao’s neglect 7.
- Qian Xunji — Former Spirit Hall pontiff who pursues Tang Hao and Ah Yin; severely wounded by Tang Hao after the sacrifice 11 134.
- Bibi Dong — Spirit Hall’s current pontiff and a major opponent. She defeats and wounds him during his rescue of Tang San 208.
- Tai Tan — Servant associated with Tang Hao; this connection leads to Tang San being recognized as a young master 134 315.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Academy Years and Family Estrangement
Tang Hao eventually permits both boys to attend Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy but forbids Xiao Yan from joining Spirit Hall. He asks Yu Xiaogang to look after Tang San and continues watching his favored son from concealment 11 37 163.
He later beats Xiao Yan for opposing Tang San. A subsequent confrontation escalates into a lethal fight: Tang Hao threatens to purge Xiao Yan from the family if he joins Spirit Hall, but Xiao Yan’s flames ravage his meridians and force him to use Ring Detonation defensively 94 150 151 152.
When Tang Hao rescues Tang San from another clash, he destroys nearby buildings to conceal their escape and disowns Xiao Yan. Tang San then persuades him to consider the possibility that Xiao Yan is a demon possessing his elder son’s body 162 163.
Tournament and Spirit City
Tang Hao rebukes Tang San for adding soul rings to the Clear Sky Hammer without permission. He urges him to apologize to Xiao Yan and redirects their hostility toward Spirit Hall, now viewing Xiao Yan’s strength as a family asset 184 197.
At Spirit City, he recounts Ah Yin’s sacrifice but denies Xiao Yan’s accusation that he deliberately exposed her. After fighting Bibi Dong and the elders, he detonates eight rings, attacks the Pope’s Hall, and escapes with Tang San and Xiao Wu. Both father and son subsequently become wanted across the continent 207 208 213.
Training and the Star Dou Great Forest
Tang Hao trains Tang San beneath a waterfall and takes him to pursue the second awakening of Blue Silver Grass. When the Blue Silver King accuses him of swindling Ah Yin out of her soul ring and soul bone, he responds with intimidation 216 218 219.
After Hell Road collapses, Tang Hao attempts to return to Slaughter City for Xiao Yan. Tang San stops him by threatening suicide 232.
Tang Hao later follows Spirit Hall into the Star Dou Great Forest, kills two Red-Robed Cardinals, and throws their bodies into Star Lake to draw out its guardians. During the ensuing pursuit of Tang San and Xiao Wu, he watches from hiding and urges Xiao Wu to offer everything to Tang San. He becomes furious when outside interference threatens his intended outcome 236 241.
Confession and Loss of Cultivation
At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Tang Hao discovers Ah Yin alive as a flourishing Blue Silver Emperor. He again denies responsibility for her sacrifice, but Xiao Yan defeats him. A fragment of the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame traps him in an illusion that forces a confession, heard by the real Ah Yin 248 249.
In their later confrontation, Xiao Yan shatters Tang Hao’s meridians. Ah Yin asks Xiao Yan to stop, but he follows with punches that destroy Tang Hao’s remaining cultivation 257 258.
Tang Hao returns to Holy Soul Village as a powerless drunkard. He tells Tang San that he crippled himself, contrary to the depicted battle, and refuses an invitation to return to the Clear Sky Sect. He asks Tang San to care for Ah Yin and promises him five soul bones after his death 270.
Public Exposure at the Clear Sky Sect
Tang Hao later accompanies Tang San back to the Clear Sky Sect, still without his cultivation. When he tries to slap Tang San for his behavior, the Sea God’s protection repels him 350.
Ah Yin’s arrival terrifies him. Her accusation that Tang San’s otherworldly soul possessed her son’s body leaves Tang Hao questioning the father–son relationship he had maintained for more than a decade 354.
A vision then exposes Tang Hao’s scheme against Ah Yin and his plans to obtain Xiao Wu’s sacrifice for Tang San. Once the illusion ends, Tang Xiao strikes him and attacks with the Clear Sky Hammer; Tang San moves to retaliate 355.
