Background / History

Nana inherited her mother’s Ghost Martial Soul. When Nana was six, her mother encountered the Holy Spirit Cult while hunting for a soul ring and was forced into the organization. After losing control, her mother killed Nana’s father, then took her own life upon regaining her senses. Cult members seized both parents’ souls and used the promise of their release to turn Nana into a pawn 134.

While studying at the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, Nana periodically visited a secret Branch Altar at night. Its leader allowed brief meetings with her parents’ imprisoned souls and monitored her cultivation, intending to deliver her to the cult’s headquarters after graduation. Nana considered seeking Jing Hongchen’s help, but seeing him secretly meet senior cult members convinced her that the academy’s leadership and the Sun Moon Empire could not be trusted 134.

Dai Youheng and Ling Ya tracked her movements for more than half a month before abducting her. Dai Youheng offered to help free her parents and destroy the branch. Nana accepted his Lotus Seed Pill despite its stated costs: exhausted cultivation potential and a soul connection that placed her life and power under his control. After gaining nine rings, she destroyed the Branch Altar, freed its captive souls, and bid farewell to her parents as they departed peacefully 134 135 136 144.

Her first assignment afterward was to steal advanced soul-tool documents from the academy. Her allegiance is personal rather than national. She regards the Holy Spirit Cult as her family’s destroyer, the Sun Moon Empire as its accomplice, and Dai Youheng as the person who gave her a new life. After rescuing her parents, she pledges lifelong service and carries out increasingly ruthless assignments against his enemies 144 145 188 242.

Her loyalty does not erase her ordinary teenage sensibilities. She is nervous when meeting Bai Wanning, occasionally enjoys local pastries during her guard duty, and firmly insists that Dai Youheng bathe, groom himself, and change clothes before their sparring match 147 205 206.
