Background / History

Ancestry and the Mo City Vigil

The Luo Family descends from the original Ancestor’s elder brother. The Ancestor never married or had children, but maintained a close protective relationship with his brother’s descendants 2.

A thousand years before Luo Yan’s return, the family founded Mo City to conceal and protect the Ancestor’s place of seclusion. An influential clansman was stationed there every hundred years to await him. His instructions allowed for a further century of waiting after his Soul Lamp went out; Luo Zongqi was still maintaining the vigil in the 121st year 2.

The family’s security depended heavily on the Ancestor and his Time Mirror. After the Soul Lamp extinguished, the mirror shattered, and a senior-ranking traitor leaked the clan’s most important secret. Without those protections, the family declined from a super family to a top-tier Southern Region clan sustained by only three Dragon Transformation cultivators 3 4.

Conflict with Yaoguang Holy Land

Yaoguang Holy Land pressured the family to surrender Luo Yixian, its most gifted young descendant and bearer of the Primordial Chaos Divine Physique. Luo Yan suspected that the Ruthless One Lineage intended to use her physique as source essence for the Yaoguang Holy Son rather than merely satisfy an elder’s interest 2.

The crisis escalated when Yaoguang cultivators attacked the family, killed clansmen, and abducted Yixian. News that the Luo Family’s Saint ancestor might still be alive caused Yaoguang to halt its immediate extermination plan. The clan then mobilized its disciples and followed Luo Yan to the holy land 21 22.

Luo Yan demanded Yixian’s return, the deaths of those responsible, and ten thousand jin of high-quality divine source. His confrontation ultimately forced Yaoguang to admit fault, compensate the family, and apologize. He also destroyed its underlying Quasi-Emperor formation, leaving the holy land facing decades of recovery 24 27 28.

Rebuilding and Expansion

During the next three years, Luo Yan corrected the family’s shortcomings and helped establish systems that reversed its decline. He personally guided its young cultivators when available, while Donkey handled much of their regular instruction. When Luo Yan departed for the starry sky, Luo Feng instructed the elders to conceal his absence by claiming that he was in seclusion 28.

The family later restored the former Tianxuan Holy Land stone-gambling workshop under Luo Yan’s direction. Its expanding influence, accumulated resources, and access to the Ancestor’s cultivation insights enabled numerous elders to advance 98 99 148.

Jiang Taixu and the Divine City Gatherings

Luo Yan entrusted the family with his former physical body, refined into a defensive puppet, and sent Luo Yixian to use it in support of Jiang Taixu. The clan transported the body to the Dragon Transformation Pool in an ancient war chariot. Luo Yan’s intervention against Jiang Taixu’s enemies substantially strengthened relations between the Luo and Jiang families 148 150 155 156.

The clan’s prestige subsequently attracted prominent cultivators to its gatherings. At the Moon-Viewing Tower banquet, it received an unexpected influx of faction representatives, including Gai Jiuyou, Jiang Taixu, and other Great Saints 199.

The Ancestor’s Apparent Death and Return

After Luo Yan fought three Quasi-Immortal King Dark Creatures, Ji Zi and Duan De reported that his aura had vanished. Luo Yixian proposed opening his coffin, and Luo Feng awakened the residual consciousness within the body, confirming that the Ancestor remained alive 243.

When Luo Yan later returned to Emperor City, many original clansmen had died or aged. Luo Yixian had succeeded Luo Feng as clan head. Luo Yan placed a new consciousness and an Immortal Dao inscription pattern in the original Ancestor’s body, preparing it to become a True Immortal guardian 296 297.

Luo Yan then openly acknowledged that he was an otherworldly being who had occupied their Ancestor’s body. The family nevertheless insisted that he remained their Ancestor. He accepted that bond, left Immortal Dao Scriptures and supreme secret arts, and departed with Donkey. Yixian ordered the clan to conceal his appearance and whereabouts and stop invoking his name outside the family 297.

Evacuation from Big Dipper

When the Road to Immortality opened, Luo Yan warned that Big Dipper could become the center of a major Dark Turmoil. He uprooted Emperor City and sent the family to a Life Planet, instructing them to return once Big Dipper became peaceful. Other families and holy lands followed its example by evacuating 303.

Organization and Traditions

  • Supreme authority of the Ancestor — Luo Yan outranks the clan chief. In the main hall, Luo Feng vacates the central seat for him, and the elders greet him collectively 197.
  • Ancestor-centered loyalty — Luo Feng orders the suspension of cultivation-resource allocations and the transfer of the clan’s source reserves to Divine City when Luo Yan expresses interest in a Qilin Divine Medicine Seed. This records the family’s willingness to bid, not a confirmed purchase 149.
  • Protection of sensitive information — Clansmen evade outside inquiries about the Ancestor, maintain the fiction of his seclusion, and later conceal his movements by Yixian’s order 28 149 297.
  • Marriage alliances — Elders repeatedly seek a match between Luo Tianlin and the Purple Mansion Saintess without success. They also attempt to arrange Luo Yixian’s marriage despite her opposition; Luo Yan states that she should remain unmarried if that is her wish 99 196 197.
