Rank and Internal Hierarchy

The Immortal King realm encompasses enormous differences in strength. Entering it does not make a cultivator equal to its long-established rulers 276.

Tier Distinguishing Features Examples
Ordinary Immortal King Usually newly ascended and still consolidating cultivation. Overwhelmingly superior to beings below the realm, but vulnerable to higher-tier kings 260 276. Jin Yao; the gravely injured Lord of Wantuo Mountain’s remaining combat strength 260 281.
Peak Immortal King Far stronger than ordinary kings; can fight multiple opponents within the realm. Their renowned names can stir manifestations in heaven and earth 276. An Lan; Luo Yan after developing the Eighteen Levels of Hell 276 286.
Immortal King Giant Greatly surpasses Peak Immortal Kings and can roam the Boundary Sea unhindered 276. Ye Tong, the Female Emperor, and Great Emperor Wushi before their later advancements 207.
Supreme Giant A higher distinction within the giant ranks, already touching the Quasi-Immortal Emperor domain 276. Willow God, the Ten Thousand Burnings Immortal King, and later Luo Yan 276 306 308.
Emperor Light Immortal King A further level associated with comprehending emperor light. A Supreme Giant approaching the end of the realm may seek this advancement 282 283. Soul Eater, identified as an Emperor Light Immortal King before his suppression 284 286.
  • Supreme Immortal King terminology: An earlier explanation describes established kings capable of killing ordinary kings as “supreme Immortal Kings.” Luo Yan’s later assessment uses “Peak Immortal King” for the second tier and separately identifies Giants and Supreme Giants 260 276.
  • Quasi-Immortal King is not equivalent to Immortal King: Luo Yan describes the gap as an almost impassable chasm. The Ten Evils are exceptional because they can contend with ordinary Immortal Kings while remaining Quasi-Immortal Kings 250 260.
  • Combat power does not always reveal cultivation: Luo Yan was initially mistaken for a Supreme Giant when manifesting Heavenly Emperor Ye, but his actual cultivation had not reached that tier 284.

Cultivation and Breakthrough

  • Foundations matter more than talent alone: Reaching Immortal King requires immense accumulated foundations; opportunity and insight are insufficient by themselves 191 218.
  • Time alone does not guarantee entry: Even supreme True Immortal prodigies cannot reach the realm merely by enduring the passage of years 180.
  • The breakthrough requires an Immortal King Tribulation: This requirement remains significant even for someone already at perfected Quasi-Immortal King 242 296.
  • Body and spirit can advance separately: Luo Yan’s primordial spirit reached Immortal King before his body. Ye Qingxian’s Physical Body Tribulation brought her body directly to giant-level strength while her larger breakthrough was still underway 276 283.
  • Further advancement is usually extremely slow: Tempering cultivation can take hundreds of thousands or millions of years. Even exceptional figures require vast periods to reach the next realm 278 281.

Cultivation Paths

  • Desolate Heavenly Emperor’s path: Kings following his Red Dust Immortal Great Dao attain giant-level combat strength after stabilizing their realm 276 281.
  • Sixth secret realm: Opening the human body’s sixth secret realm is associated with becoming an Immortal King Giant; Ye Tong is a documented example 207.
  • Luo Yan’s reincarnation path: The Eighteen Levels of Hell correspond to Peak Immortal King, the River of Forgetfulness to Immortal King Giant, and the Three Lives Stone to Supreme Giant 286.

Abilities & Skills

Divine Might and Cosmic Influence

  • An Immortal King primordial spirit can move mountains, overturn seas, and seize stars through thought 276.
  • A leaked wisp of an Undying King’s aura can force cultivators to prostrate themselves across countless starry expanses 250.
  • The Lord of Wantuo Mountain’s battle annihilated stars and pierced entire starfields 259.
  • A trace of power from an Immortal King-refined banner could crush heaven and earth and summon a phantom River of Time 241.

Time, Space, and Karma

  • The realm permits setting foot in the River of Time 242.
  • Karmic ties can carry an attack across ages of spacetime. Such a strike may weaken considerably before reaching its destination 44.
  • An Lan used immortal dao laws to investigate Luo Yan’s past and future, although Luo Yan’s missing past and interference from future figures thwarted the attempt 250.
  • As a Peak Immortal King, Luo Yan could sense his name being recited across the endless void 304.

Regeneration and Nirvana

  • A remaining drop of blood or strand of primordial spirit can enable rebirth through nirvana 276 281 304.
  • Luo Yan’s newly ascended primordial spirit could support his return even if he were killed 276.
  • Regeneration is not unlimited: repeated reconstruction can exhaust true blood. Jin Yao was permanently killed after his opponent erased his true spirit and scattered his primordial spirit 281.
  • Serious injuries may require tens of thousands of years to heal; An Lan withdrew rather than accept an unnecessary wound 250.

Immortal King Arts and Artifacts

Immortal King techniques and weapons can be wielded by cultivators below the realm; possessing one does not establish its user’s rank 190 241.

  • Grass Character Sword Art: A top-tier Immortal King secret art whose minor mastery can kill a True Immortal 190.
  • Heaven-Waving Divine Banner: An Immortal King-refined artifact whose pressure rendered Great Emperor-level witnesses helpless 241.
  • Immortal King formations: Emperor City possessed defensive immortal dao inscriptions of this level, though an exceptionally powerful being below king rank breached them 247.

Vulnerabilities and Limits

  • Dark matter corruption: Dark matter can contaminate an Immortal King’s primordial spirit and turn the victim into a Fallen Immortal King 272.
  • Higher-tier opponents: A Peak Immortal King can permanently destroy an ordinary king despite repeated regeneration 281.
  • Loss of origin: Luo Yan’s Heavenly Emperor Fist ground away the injured Lord of Wantuo Mountain’s origin, preventing rapid bodily recovery and threatening his continued possession of the rank 259.
  • Emperor-domain treasures: The Nine-Colored Divine Tree suppressed a Supreme Giant and inflicted wounds he could not immediately repair 307.
  • Dangerous environments: Sword Sea sword qi could kill Immortal Kings, while its concentrated dark matter threatened to corrupt any being within the domain 290 291.

History and Major Conflicts

Fragmentation and Return

After the Immortal Domain shattered, no new Immortal King appeared there for millions of years, and such experts had effectively vanished from the land 156. Kings later returned from the fragmented Boundary Sea, reclaiming old legacies or founding new lineages. Ye Fan, the Female Emperor, and Wushi entered from the Lower Realm, broke through, and established the Heavenly Court 214.

Other kings remained within the Boundary Sea’s great worlds: some were native cultivators, some had become lost, and others had settled there after their original worlds were destroyed 290.

War against the Fallen Creatures and Eerie Race

The Dam became a battlefield for the Immortal Domain’s survival. Jin Yao’s death demonstrated that Immortal Kings could be permanently annihilated, while the Eerie Race’s higher-order source of power gave its kings an advantage over ordinary counterparts 281.

Ye Qingxian’s tribulation prompted an enemy Supreme Giant to intervene. Heavenly Court kings and Immortal Domain giants united to protect her, before Luo Yan arrived and used the Self-Transforming Freedom Art to manifest the Three Heavenly Emperors’ power and defeat the invading forces 282 284 285.

This wartime era was later revealed to be a real possible future reflected into existence by the Weird Immortal Emperor to study the Three Heavenly Emperors’ weaknesses 285.
