Background / History

In his previous life, Tang San was an outer disciple of the Tang Sect. He regarded his creation of the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus as proof of the talent the sect had failed to recognize. When cornered in the Star Dou Great Forest, he recalls his earlier leap from a cliff and interprets it as a victory over the elders who had looked down on him 90.

In the Douluo World, Tang San became a Shrek Academy tournament champion and was rescued by Tang Hao after the All-Continent Soul Master Elite Tournament. He also disrupted Qian Renxue’s infiltration of the Heaven Dou Empire, earning her lasting resentment 83 92. By the Sea God Island conflict, he is the Sea God’s recognized heir; his Divine Slaughter’s Domain, obtained after leaving Slaughter City, also makes him a candidate for the Asura God’s succession 10 34.

Appearance

  • Hair and clothing: Long blue hair and snow-white robes when meeting Ren Tao on Sea God Island 9.
  • Blue Silver display: Arrives supported by masses of blue-gold grass and vines spreading down the hillside 9.
  • Temporary divine form: Appears in golden armor during his brief communion with the Sea God 75.
  • Recreated body: Later bears facial scars and an unfamiliar depth of expression. This appearance belongs to the reconstructed vessel housing the Creation God’s consciousness, not an ordinary recovery of Tang San 119 123.

Personality

Tang San combines outward courtesy with aggressive tactical calculation. He bows respectfully before his duel with Ren Tao, then launches a spiritual attack almost immediately. He chooses terrain that strengthens his own domain and subjects his opponent to Sea God’s Light, while preparing poison and devouring attacks as safeguards 10.

His attachment to Xiao Wu initially overrides his willingness to fight to the death. He loses composure when she is threatened and avoids mutual destruction because of her 12 13. Repeated defeats, however, turn his rivalry with Ren Tao into an obsession. He treats an offer of negotiation as humiliation, and Xiao Wu becomes alarmed that cultivating and killing the Evil Orca King occupy nearly all his attention 70 85.

At his breaking point, refusing defeat becomes more important to him than accepting Xiao Wu’s willingness to remain beside him. When Da Ming will not sacrifice himself, Tang San kills him rather than allow his opponents to obtain every soul ring. His final remnant consciousness still insists that he has not lost and seeks another resurrection 90 123.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Martial Soul and Domain

Tang San uses Blue Silver Grass and Blue Silver Emperor growth for battlefield control, tracking, and supporting attacks 10 85.

  • Myriad Phenomena: Unlocked by the domain’s third evolution; rapidly grows and intertwines vegetation to enclose combatants 10.
  • Poison and devouring: Vegetation supplements his Eight Spider Lances by poisoning and draining the opponent 10.
  • Blue Silver Avatar: His seventh soul skill, used alongside Void to withstand Ren Tao’s assault 27.
  • Tracking: Searches for Da Ming’s and Er Ming’s auras through Blue Silver Grass 85.
  • Self-repair: Helps restore his body, but does not eliminate his need for treatment after the Trident’s severe blood drain 77.

Purple Demon Eye and Spiritual Power

His Boundless-realm Purple Demon Eye enables Purple Pole Divine Light, a direct spiritual attack 10.

  • Detects Ren Tao near Sea God Island before Xiao Bai receives a report 9.
  • Communicates mentally with Bo Saixi within their spiritual perception range 9.
  • Briefly overwhelms Ren Tao’s consciousness during their first duel, creating an opening for a close-range attack 10.
  • Becomes more than twice as powerful when reinforced by Divine Slaughter’s Domain during the next attack 12.
  • Is countered by Ren Tao’s Dragon Blood Killing Array, whose corrosive energy forces Tang San to sever the attack’s connection 26.

Divine Slaughter’s Domain

A killing-intent domain associated with Tang San’s eligibility for the Asura God’s inheritance 31 34.

  • Asura Hell: Spreads white light carrying an aura of cold and terror 3.
  • Strengthens Purple Pole Divine Light and reinforces the Clear Sky Hammer with increasingly concentrated white radiance 12.
  • Its possession does not, by itself, establish that Tang San has completed the Asura God’s inheritance 31 34.

Xiao Wu’s Sacrificial Soul Ring

His sixth soul ring grants movement, protection, and attacks involving Xiao Wu’s manifestation or possession 10 12.

  • Teleportation: Allows rapid repositioning, including appearing behind an opponent 10.
  • Invincible Golden Body: Ignores attacks for three seconds and has limited daily uses 10 27.
  • Void: Grants immunity to physical attacks and reduces energy attacks by fifty percent 27.
  • Void, Explosive Eight-Stage Throw: Usable once per day; Xiao Wu can attack independently while Tang San charges another technique 12.
  • Limits: Strong field suppression and soul-power lock-on can prevent Teleportation. Ren Tao also disrupts its routes with slashing attacks 11 27.

Eight Spider Lances

The Eight Spider Lances combine piercing attacks, restraint, poison injection, and energy devouring 10.

  • Grow harder and sharper after Tang San absorbs his god-bestowed seventh soul ring 10.
  • Pierce Ren Tao’s protective soul garment when a spiritual attack leaves him unable to organize his defense 10.
  • Bind opponents at close range while transferring poison and draining energy 10 27.
  • Their connection exposes Tang San to Ren Tao’s counter-devouring, draining his soul power and spiritual power while inducing an intoxicating consciousness link 11.

Clear Sky Hammer Techniques

Tang San uses the Clear Sky Hammer for defense and sustained, momentum-driven attacks 11 12.

  • Blocks an Orca Shattering Fang Slash, though Ren Tao’s superior soul power still sends him flying 11.
  • Chaotic Cloak Dance: A self-created soul skill described as his most destructive available technique during the first duel 12.
  • Its windup builds tremendous rotational momentum that he cannot immediately stop, even when Xiao Wu is threatened 12.
  • Tang Chen’s Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer is explicitly described as far superior to Tang San’s 50.

Tang Sect Poison Arts and Hidden Weapons

Tang San combines poison expertise, hidden weapons, and Mysterious Heaven Skill to create opportunities against stronger opponents 26 27.

  • Mixed Poison body: Places multiple poisons inside himself and maintains their balance through Mysterious Heaven Skill. Once transferred to Ren Tao, they are intended to erupt without that restraint 27.
  • Close-range delivery: Uses himself as bait so that either devouring or counter-devouring will carry the toxins into his opponent 27.
  • Risk: He may be killed before the poison takes effect; Invincible Golden Body supplies only a brief survival window 27.
  • Weapon limitations: At this stage, he cannot use the Tang Sect’s finest hidden weapons. He judges Yama’s Invitation insufficient to penetrate Ren Tao’s Super Douluo-level defenses 26.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sea God Trident — Divine weapon drawn on Sea God Island. Its golden shock wave disperses Ren Tao’s opening assault in the forest; Ren Tao later takes possession of it 75 78 85 88.
  • Asura Blood Sword — Carried alongside the Trident in the Star Dou Great Forest. Tang San uses it against Ren Tao and ultimately to decapitate Da Ming 85 89 90.
  • Flight Leg Bone — Enables airborne pursuit and movement while concealed 26 27.
  • Vast Sea Protective Shroud — Conceals Tang San during combat. The triangular Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud also protects and carries him away when the Sea God intervenes 27 28.
  • Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — Stores items, including the Yama’s Invitation he withdraws from an unsuccessful trap 27.
  • Mother-Child Soul-Chasing Life-Taking Orb — Fifth-ranked mechanism-powered Tang Sect hidden weapon; releases hundreds of poisonous Bone-Melting Needles designed to pierce protective energy 27.
  • Universe Bag — Holds Xiao Wu when Tang San prepares to face Ren Tao in the forest 85.

Relationships

  • Xiao Wu — His beloved and the source of his sacrificial sixth soul ring. She secretly gives him blood after he draws the Trident, but his killing of Da Ming shatters her trust in him 10 77 90.
  • Ren Tao / Evil Orca King — Mortal enemy and repeated victor over Tang San. Their conflict develops from a soul-beast hunt into a struggle over divine succession and Tang San’s refusal to accept defeat 2 13 70 90.
  • Shrek Seven Devils — His companions support his recovery and accompany his soul-ring hunt. Ren Tao’s control over Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Oscar, together with Ma Hongjun’s fear, damages the group’s formerly secure bonds 16 70.
  • Sea God — Patron and succession sponsor who rescues him from Ren Tao. Later openly states that Ren Tao may kill Tang San; he and the Asura God nevertheless use Tang San’s divine soul imprint in their reconstruction scheme 27 28 86 123.
  • Asura God — Interested in Tang San as a successor and potential God King. Helps recreate him as a vessel for the Creation God’s consciousness 34 123.
  • Bo Saixi — Sea God Island’s High Priest and trial supervisor. Encourages him to strengthen himself after defeat, though he senses growing distance in her manner 16.
  • Tang Chen — His great-grandfather. Later regards Tang San’s death and continued exploitation as consequences of the two gods’ interference 116.
  • Da Ming / Sky Azure Bull Python — Xiao Wu’s family member and temporary ally. Tang San demands his sacrifice, then kills him when an alternative threatens to deprive Tang San of the soul ring 88 89 90.
  • Er Ming / Titan Giant Ape — Another of Xiao Wu’s loved ones. His soul is eventually placed in Tang San’s body alongside Da Ming’s 90 91.
  • Bibi Dong — Enemy allied with Ren Tao against him. His pursuit of divine inheritance convinces her that he threatens the Spirit Hall Empire 83.
  • Qian Renxue — Bears a grudge because he ruined her Heaven Dou infiltration plan. Later reports attacks by the recreated “Tang San” on Spirit Hall Empire cities 92 116.
  • Xue Beng — Addresses the recreated Tang San as “Teacher” and attends him shortly before Ren Tao discovers the vessel’s true identity 119.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Sea God Island Duel

Tang San first appears as a lethal threat to Ren Tao and the Evil Spirit Orcas, deploying Asura Hell during the sea battle 2 3. When Ren Tao later arrives on Sea God Island and challenges him, Tang San accepts to avoid disgracing the Sea God’s heirship. He selects the mountain behind Sea God Hall, where vegetation favors his domain and Sea God’s Light suppresses Ren Tao 9 10.

His opening combination—Purple Pole Divine Light, Teleportation, Invincible Golden Body, and Eight Spider Lances—initially appears decisive. Ren Tao reverses the devouring connection, disrupts his movement, and uses Xiao Wu to destabilize him before releasing her 10 11 12. Tang San loses the duel and suffers severe injuries; the settlement prohibits him and Sea God Island from attacking the Evil Spirit Orca Group for ten years 13 16.

Soul-Ring Hunt and Poison Gamble

Still lacking his eighth ring, Tang San joins his companions to hunt a hundred-thousand-year sea soul beast. He eventually identifies a Human-Faced Sea Anemone as a prospective ring source, but prioritizes investigating Ren Tao after sensing the Sea God’s anger 16 25.

Ren Tao repeatedly escapes his perception and defeats his attempts at battlefield control. Tang San responds with a plan devised after their earlier duel: turn his own body into a balanced poison vessel and deliver its contents through their devouring connection 26 27. The plan fails to secure victory. The Sea God intervenes and carries the bloodied Tang San away; he is later described as hovering on the brink of death 27 28 31.

Trials and the Trident

Tang San barely completes his fourth Sea God trial without gaining affinity, deepening his sense that his former certainty is slipping away 71. By the fifth-trial period, he has obtained an eighth soul ring and can challenge Titled Douluos 74.

He draws the Sea God Trident and briefly channels power beyond mortal limits, but loses enough blood to require Xiao Wu’s transfusion and medicinal treatment 75 77 78. After a nightmare in which the gods condemn his failures, he renews his vow to kill Ren Tao. Ren Tao challenges him to settle their conflict in the Star Dou Great Forest fifteen days later 77.

Star Dou Great Forest and Death

Tang San reaches the forest carrying both the Sea God Trident and Asura Blood Sword. He expects the inland terrain to weaken Ren Tao, but the Sea God’s projection takes over the confrontation and sends him away to obtain Da Ming’s and Er Ming’s hundred-thousand-year soul rings 85 86.

After losing the Trident, Tang San reunites with Da Ming and protects Xiao Wu behind them. A subsequent clash with Ren Tao leaves his chest crushed by recoil from the Asura Sword 88 89. He demands Da Ming’s sacrifice as their only chance of escape 89.

Ren Tao instead offers to preserve the two beasts’ souls in Tang San’s body. Unable to accept losing, Tang San decapitates the unguarded Da Ming, devastating Xiao Wu 90. Ren Tao then places Da Ming’s and Er Ming’s souls into his body. The resulting “Tang San” leaves with Xiao Wu, while news spreads that Bibi Dong has killed the divine heir 91 92.

Reconstruction and Final Soul Imprisonment

Tang San is subsequently reported alive again, attacking border cities and gathering power for the Asura God. Bo Saixi warns that his body has been infused with the blood and vitality of Sea God Island’s creatures, and that its occupant may no longer be Tang San 116.

Ren Tao encounters this changed figure near Jialing Pass and perceives the Creation God behind his appearance 119. The finale establishes that the Sea God and Asura God had used Tang San’s divine soul imprint as a vessel for the Creation God’s consciousness, suppressing Tang San’s own awareness at the bottom 123.

When the Creation God’s consciousness dissipates, Tang San’s remnant soul becomes free. Ren Tao captures it with the Evil God’s Secret Art and casts it into the Dragon Blood Illusion. There, Tang San experiences a futile attempt to resurrect himself with the Lovesick Heartbreak Red before calling out for Xiao Wu 123.
