Background / History

According to Yin Zhang, the Sea God promised twenty thousand years earlier to protect all sea soul beasts and bring peace to the ocean. Yin Zhang later condemns him for failing to fulfil that promise 8.

During the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King’s pursuit of dragon transformation, the Sea God descended and struck him with his Trident, blinding one eye. The accompanying Sea God’s Light dispersed the final soul remnant of the evil soul master researching the whale king’s evolution 15.

The evil soul master also bore the Sea God’s Abhorrence. His surviving legacy contained a corroded, black trident-shaped mark and a declaration that the Sea God’s power could be devoured 15.

Before Ren Tao’s alliance proposal, the Sea God had already intervened to save Tang San from the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King. The whale king explicitly credits that intervention with preventing him from killing Tang San 1.

The Sea God had known the Asura God for more than fifty years by the Divine Realm’s reckoning when they met to discuss Ren Tao. Their acquaintance allows him to recognize the Asura God’s interest in Tang San despite the latter’s initial denial 34.

His Trident was originally his Martial Soul before becoming a physical divine artifact. Bo Saixi later offers Ren Tao this information as a clue to the relationship between Martial Souls, matter, and the world’s underlying mechanisms 69.

The Sea God draws power from his followers’ faith. Ren Tao’s establishment of sea soul beast autonomy undermines that foundation: after the beasts acclaim Ren Tao as Sea King and he returns their collective vow power to the ocean, the Seven Sacred Pillars dim and the Sea God Hall trembles. The Sea God subsequently acknowledges losing more than half his power of faith 64 68 75.

His final scheme involves sacrificing Sea God Island’s followers and using Bo Saixi as the ritual’s medium. Although Ren Tao initially interprets the blood sacrifice as a means of increasing the Sea God’s power, Bo Saixi reveals that its purpose was to create another Tang San 114 115 116.

Appearance

  • Divine Realm form: A tall, imposing figure enveloped in blue light, with divine rings behind him. The Asura God possesses two more rings, marking their difference in divine rank 34.
  • Lower-realm manifestation: An enormous blue phantom approximately one hundred meters tall, with the starry sky faintly visible through its body 28.
  • Withdrawal: His fading phantom becomes a streak of blue flame that propels Tang San’s triangular Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud away 28.
  • Star Dou Great Forest projection: A towering figure five or six meters tall, wearing radiant golden armor with clearly visible patterns. His Golden Trident initially appears proportioned like a longsword before he enlarges it 85.
  • Final confrontation: Appears in shimmering Sea God armor within the blood-red barrier surrounding the displaced Sea God Island 114.
  • Death: His divine body rapidly decays under the Time Chain’s effect. Plankton and arthropods colonize it before leeches, sea snakes, piranhas, and other creatures consume it, leaving an unrecognizable, reef-like form 115.

Personality

The Sea God places considerable importance on protecting his succession. Even after acknowledging Tang San’s shortcomings, he calls him his only successor and seeks the Asura God’s cooperation rather than abandoning him 34.

His composure deteriorates when Ren Tao challenges his authority. He openly rebukes Tang San after Ren Tao’s transformation, then launches a nearly unrestrained attack when Ren Tao threatens to sever his inheritance. Nevertheless, he hesitates before attacking because Ren Tao’s confidence suggests an unknown countermeasure 24 28.

He is also protective of his position within the Divine Realm. He refuses to take sole responsibility for eliminating Ren Tao, citing the Enforcers’ scrutiny, and insists that the Asura God share the consequences equally 34.

His attachment to Tang San becomes increasingly resentful as his succession stalls and his faith dwindles. He declares that, if replacing his inheritor were possible, he would kill Tang San himself. Later, after another unsuccessful confrontation with Ren Tao, he calls the inheritance a farce and tells Ren Tao that he can kill Tang San, although Ren Tao suspects a concealed scheme rather than a sincere concession 68 86.

The loss of his followers exposes the self-interest behind his hostility toward Ren Tao. His will joins Tang San’s resentment during the tribulation ambush, while the Asura God explicitly identifies Ren Tao’s theft of the Sea God’s faith as one reason the gods want him dead 75.

In his final confrontation, he treats his worshippers as expendable. He casually admits sacrificing Sea God Island and justifies the act by claiming that its followers had agreed to give their lives through soul contracts. He also threatens captives to restrain Ren Tao, combining personal leverage with the island’s forbidden-power trap 114 115.

Abilities & Skills

Ocean Control and Divine Domain

The Sea God can manipulate immense quantities of seawater and impose a divine domain that overwhelms Ren Tao’s control of the battlefield 28.

  • Calms the sea upon appearing 28.
  • Raises hundreds upon thousands of tons of water with a stamp of his foot 28.
  • Saturates an area with water elements, compressing and sealing the space within approximately five hundred meters of Ren Tao 28.
  • Suppresses other elemental energies, preventing Ren Tao from using Spatial Transfer, flight, and Shattered Fang Slash 28.
  • Combines this confinement with a punch powerful enough to shatter Ren Tao’s body 28.
  • His manifestation in the Star Dou Great Forest fills the surroundings with the sound and presence of an azure sea despite the inland setting 85.
  • Can form an illusory trident from crystalline columns of water 114.

His ocean authority is not equivalent to complete mastery over water itself. Ren Tao realizes that water’s relationship to life and the world’s origin extends beyond the Sea God’s control. After receiving the world inheritance, Ren Tao effortlessly disperses the Sea God’s water trident and separates pure water from the surrounding blood energy to bind him 67 114.

Sea God’s Light

Sea God’s Light is the golden divine power associated with his island, sacred pillars, and followers 9 18.

  • Bo Saixi summons it through Sea God Hall and the Seven Sacred Pillars to envelop the island 9.
  • Its pressure causes the Evil Spirit Orcas to tremble involuntarily and impedes Ren Tao’s soul-power circulation on Sea God Mountain 9 10.
  • A strand penetrates Ren Tao’s defenses to deliver the Sea God’s Abhorrence 13.
  • Xin Luo carries a limited supply in a ruby ring; she uses it to empower piranhas and hostile seawater during her attack on Ren Tao 18.

Sea God’s Abhorrence

A divine curse described by Bo Saixi as the opposite of Sea God’s Light, imposed as punishment upon a “sinner.” On Ren Tao, it appears as a black trident mark on his forehead 13.

  • Tracking: Those possessing Sea God’s Light can locate and lock onto the branded target. Tang San senses Ren Tao through the mark before arranging an ambush 16 18.
  • Bounty: According to Xin Luo, a Sea God believer who kills the target receives an additional reward 18.
  • Ocean hostility: Can deprive a sea soul beast of control over water and make the surrounding ocean attack it 18.
  • Divine will: Contains both divine power and a trace of the Sea God’s will 39.
  • Vulnerability: Ren Tao eventually strips away that will and suppresses the remaining power to create Soul Breaking Spears, although he still cannot fully decode the divine power itself 39.

The curse’s repurposed power can attack the soul without a conventional physical form. Ren Tao estimates that a Soul Breaking Spear is difficult for opponents below rank ninety-five to withstand unless they possess exceptional spiritual power; driven by his purple divine power, it can even shatter a trace of the White-Haired Woman’s divine sense 39.

Divine Sense and Intervention

The Sea God intervenes through a phantom rather than descending personally into the lower realm during his initial confrontations 28 34.

  • Protects the critically injured Tang San inside a blue triangular barrier 27.
  • Encloses himself and Ren Tao in an isolated field, removing the surrounding companions from their immediate encounter 28.
  • Withdraws with Tang San after his manifestation begins to lose cohesion 28.
  • Leaves a trace of divine power in Ren Tao’s reconstructed body, which Ren Tao subsequently assimilates 28 29.
  • Manifests through Tang San’s golden trident mark entering the Sea God’s Heart within the Trident. During this process, Tang San discovers that his body is no longer fully under his control 85.
  • Uses divine-level spiritual probing to track Ren Tao even when he attempts to conceal himself behind a tree 86.
  • Seizes Tang San remotely and throws him deeper into the Star Dou Great Forest, ordering him to hunt the Sky Azure Bull Python and Titan Giant Ape for their hundred-thousand-year soul rings 86.
  • Can assert authority over the Trident strongly enough to expel Ren Tao’s divine sense from its internal control space and sever his connection to its magic runes 89.

Trial Administration

The Sea God can revise the conditions of his inheritance trials and transmit instructions to his heir and High Priestess 34.

  • Extends Tang San’s Fourth Trial deadline to five years because of outside interference 34.
  • Requires Tang San to reach Titled Douluo strength before attempting to kill the Evil Orca King 34.
  • Delivers the revised conditions to Tang San and Bo Saixi almost simultaneously 34.
  • Tang San eventually receives notice that he has barely completed the Fourth Trial after Bo Saixi disqualifies Ren Tao from their contest 71.
  • Ren Tao subsequently becomes a target of Tang San’s Eighth Trial, replacing the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King in that role as understood by Ren Tao 77.

Golden Thirteen Halberds

The Sea God wields the Golden Thirteen Halberds, also called the Sea God Thirteen Halberds, through his Trident. His projection demonstrates the first three forms against Ren Tao in the Star Dou Great Forest 85 86.

Form Technique Effect and demonstrated outcome
First Unfixed Wind Waves An offensive and defensive restraint technique that immobilizes a struck opponent for eight seconds. Ordinary physical and energy attacks pass through its halos without neutralizing them. Ren Tao counters it by borrowing Giant Kun’s water-element power and breaking his waves into increasingly fine particles 85 86.
Second Thousand Years of Emptiness Transforms his golden figure into a cloud of light that releases countless continuous halberd shadows. It penetrates Ren Tao’s wave defense, but its lack of an opening restraint allows him to evade it with Wind’s Extreme Speed 86.
Third One-Way Trip Hurls the Trident in a devastating targeted attack, compressing space and suppressing Spatial Jump and Wind’s Extreme Speed. Ren Tao’s Spear of Chaos destabilizes the surrounding space, allowing him to disperse the attack and escape at the cost of his hands and arms, which he regenerates 86.

During the final island confrontation, the Sea God also releases a palm-launched skill resembling One-Way Trip. It shatters Ren Tao’s body, but Ren Tao reverses the event through the power associated with his Time Chain 115.

Faith and Communion with His Heir

The Sea God’s power is sustained in part by worshippers’ faith. The declaration of sea soul beast autonomy and their recognition of Ren Tao as Sea King deprive him of more than half that resource 64 68 75.

During the Trident ceremony, his power briefly elevates Tang San beyond mortal limits. Tang San appears in golden armor as the Sea God’s will and his own resentment merge into a luminous trident image that directs tribulation lightning toward Ren Tao 75.

Forbidden Power and Blood Sacrifice

The Sea God’s final trap surrounds the displaced Sea God Island with a blood-red barrier and forbidden power derived from the sacrifice of its followers 114.

  • Bloodline suppression: Claims that the forbidden power can suppress Ren Tao’s bloodline. Ren Tao replies that he no longer depends on bloodline power 114.
  • Binding rings: Tightens forbidden-power rings around Ren Tao’s neck and limbs, eventually preventing the use of his skills and nearly all bodily control 114 115.
  • Hostage barrier: Holds three captives behind a blood-red circular barrier and threatens to kill them if Ren Tao acts. Ren Tao’s Time Chain pierces that barrier and frees them 115.
  • Ritual medium: Uses Bo Saixi’s body to conduct the blood sacrifice, severely overdrawing her cultivation and life essence 116.
  • Recreation of Tang San: The sacrifice’s purpose is to create another Tang San, rather than merely enhance the Sea God’s own strength 115.

Limitations

  • Neither he nor the Asura God can personally descend to the lower realm under the circumstances discussed in their meeting 34.
  • The ongoing Nine Trials attract Enforcer scrutiny, restricting his freedom to order Bo Saixi to eliminate Ren Tao 34.
  • His phantom cannot use Sea God’s Light as a medium to wield the Trident during its confrontation with Ren Tao 28.
  • His manifestation’s power is finite: after destroying Ren Tao’s body, it fades rather than delivering another decisive attack 28.
  • Ren Tao survives that attack through a one-use nirvana rebirth, defeating the intervention without killing the Sea God himself 28 34.
  • There is only one Sea God’s Heart, leaving him without an alternative to Tang San at the stage described by the White-Haired Woman 31.
  • His loss of faith weakens his position and leaves him increasingly prone to rage 68.
  • His Star Dou Great Forest projection approaches exhaustion after using three halberd forms and fails to kill Ren Tao 86.
  • His divine skill’s restraint can be opposed by the sufficiently refined water-element power Ren Tao borrows from Giant Kun 86.
  • By their final confrontation, Ren Tao’s world-inheritance knowledge places his water control far above the Sea God’s 114.
  • His divine body is vulnerable to Ren Tao’s Time Chain, which accelerates its internal passage of time and subjects it to decay and consumption by aquatic life 115.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sea God Trident — Weapon used to blind the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King. Ren Tao identifies seizing it as a possible means of severing the Sea God Inheritance 1 15.
    • Originally the Sea God’s Martial Soul before becoming a physical divine artifact 69.
    • Can change size under the Sea God’s control and serves as the weapon for the Golden Thirteen Halberds 85 86.
    • Becomes inert outside the Sea God’s or Tang San’s hands during Ren Tao’s initial examination. Ren Tao cannot immediately decipher its runes or bring it into his Sea of Inheritance, although Giant Kun identifies water-attribute power as capable of driving it 87.
    • The Sea God later expels Ren Tao’s divine sense from its internal control space 89.
    • Bibi Dong brings it back to Spirit Hall after killing Tang San 92.
    • Is absent from the Sea God’s hand during the final island confrontation, leading Ren Tao to realize that someone else is using it as part of the wider scheme 114.
  • Sea God’s Heart / Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud — Inheritance-linked artifact carried by Tang San. It has limited energy and is needed to activate the Trident; the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King’s Whale Pearl can repair it 28.
    • Its uniqueness is a major constraint on the Sea God’s choice of successor 31.
    • Receives Tang San’s manifested trident mark to summon the Sea God’s projection in the Star Dou Great Forest 85.
  • Abhorrence Brand — A curse rather than a conventional weapon, but its divine power becomes the basis of weapons used by Ren Tao and his allies 33 39.
  • Sea God Armor — Dazzling divine armor worn by his golden forest projection and during his final confrontation on Sea God Island 85 114.
  • Followers’ Soul Contracts — Contracts he invokes to justify sacrificing Sea God Island’s followers, claiming that they had committed their lives to him upon arriving 114.

Relationships

  • Tang San — Chosen heir and only available successor. The Sea God repeatedly protects him, rebukes his failures, and adjusts his trial conditions 1 24 27 28 34.
    • Increasingly blames Tang San for the stalled inheritance and claims that he would kill him if another inheritor could be chosen 68.
    • Briefly joins his will with Tang San’s resentment during the tribulation ambush, then personally directs him to obtain the forest’s hundred-thousand-year soul rings 75 86.
    • Tells Ren Tao that he can kill Tang San after the forest confrontation. Following Tang San’s death at Bibi Dong’s hands, the Sea God participates in the plan to recreate him through sacrifice 86 92 106 115.
  • Bo Saixi — High Priestess responsible for the Sea God Inheritance. Her duties require her eventual sacrifice, while her attachment to Tang Chen increasingly strains her devotion 14 18 36.
    • Her secret dealings with Ren Tao and reunion with Tang Chen further distance her from unquestioning service to the Sea God 37 64 69 77.
    • He is aware of her collusion and ultimately uses her body as the medium of his blood sacrifice, exhausting much of her cultivation and life essence. She survives his defeat and is freed from his control 114 115 116.
  • Asura God — Higher-ranking deity and competing patron of Tang San. After a hostile discussion, they agree that Ren Tao must be eliminated before succession proceeds, with responsibility shared 34.
    • Their alliance protects complementary interests: the Sea God’s faith and the Asura God’s relationship with war and slaughter 75.
    • The Asura God later orders the Sea God to recreate Tang San while the Angel and Rakshasa conflict disrupts their plans 106.
  • Ren Tao — Enemy who obstructs Tang San’s trials, survives the Sea God’s direct attack, and repurposes his curse into weapons 13 28 39.
    • His rise as Sea King and promotion of sea soul beast independence deprive the Sea God of much of his faith power 64 68.
    • Survives the tribulation ambush and defeats another projection in the Star Dou Great Forest. Their final encounter ends with Ren Tao killing the Sea God through the Time Chain 75 86 115.
  • Deep Sea Demonic Whale King — Longstanding enemy whom he blinded and prevented from killing Tang San 1 15.
  • Xiao Bai — Devoted follower who presents the destruction of the Evil Spirit Orcas as an act performed on his behalf 2.
  • Xin Luo / Sea Witch — Sacred Pillar Guardian who uses Sea God’s Light and the Abhorrence Brand’s effects against Ren Tao 18.
    • Her closeness to Ren Tao becomes leverage in the Sea God’s final trap. She survives his defeat, expresses hatred rather than sympathy for him, and leaves the destroyed island’s authority behind 114 115 116.
  • Sea Soul Beast Alliance — Former worshippers who reject his authority, accuse him of taking their faith without protecting them, and demand his Abhorrence as compensation 35 37.
    • Their recognition of Ren Tao as Sea King and declaration of autonomy directly undermine the Sea God’s faith base 64 68.
  • Sea God Island’s Followers — The worshippers and soul masters supporting his sacred island. He sacrifices them in his final ritual, claiming their soul contracts authorize their deaths 114.
  • Bibi Dong — Kills his chosen successor and takes possession of the Sea God Trident along with the Asura Sacred Sword 92.

Final Confrontation and Death

After learning Sea God Island’s location from the Goddess of Kindness, Ren Tao enters its blood-red barrier and finds a barren realm containing the remains of the Merfolk’s home. The Sea God admits sacrificing the island’s followers and confronts him with forbidden power. Ren Tao demands the release of Bo Saixi and the Sea Witch, disperses the Sea God’s water trident, and binds his neck and limbs with water chains. The Sea God retaliates with forbidden-power rings 114.

The Sea God then reveals three captives inside a blood-red barrier and threatens their lives. Once the forbidden power has fully restrained Ren Tao, he unleashes a strike resembling One-Way Trip and blasts Ren Tao apart. The scene immediately reverses: the attack retreats into his hands, Ren Tao reforms, and the surrounding events begin replaying backward 115.

Ren Tao’s Time Chain passes through the Sea God and the hostage barrier, freeing the prisoners. Within the Sea God’s body, time accelerates as though ten thousand years pass in a second. His divine flesh decays and becomes occupied by aquatic organisms, eventually resembling a reef as larger creatures consume it. Ren Tao attributes the result to the chain’s power of evolution and contrasts the Sea God’s preserved appearance with the stagnation of his life and thought 115.

Bo Saixi survives but has aged severely because the Sea God used her body as the blood-sacrifice medium. She clarifies that the ritual was intended to create another Tang San. With Sea God Island gone, she and the Sea Witch are no longer bound to its former order 115 116.
