Xiaohe Village

Zhang Xiaoyu lived beside Lin Feng’s family in Xiaohe Village. Though his own household was poor, he and his wife would go hungry to bring food to Lin Feng’s children; Lin Feng later remembered him as a consistently cheerful and generous neighbor 454.

He learned the Wind-Breaking Saber Technique from Lin Feng faster than the other students, becoming proficient after only a few demonstrations 58. After a severe injury left conventional treatment unaffordable and uncertain, Lin Feng offered him the Bloodthirsty Demonic Art as an alternative path to strength 76 78.

Turn to the Demonic Path

The Bloodthirsty Demonic Art gave Zhang extraordinary growth but made fresh blood essential to his cultivation and survival. He eventually chose to leave for the Demonic Sect, entrusting his wife and child to Lin Feng’s care rather than endanger them with his demonic cultivation 164.

Yun Mengwu brought him into the Demonic Path and recommended him to the Blood Demon Sect. After strict interrogation, he became an outer disciple and gained the first three layers of the Bloodthirsty Demonic Art 193. Although he initially lived comfortably with Yun Mengwu, he remained dissatisfied with being an ordinary disciple and entered the Blood Demon Divine Mountain trial for the position of Blood Demon Saint Son 193 217.

Blood Demon Divine Mountain

During the trial, Zhang Xiaoyu survived an ambush by draining an opponent’s blood, then encountered the remnant soul of the Maneater Old Demon. He accepted the old demon’s transmission of the Blood Demon Art and later became his disciple under a pact sealed with a golden circlet 218 223.

The Maneater Old Demon pushed him toward increasingly ruthless methods. Zhang infiltrated a team, provoked a conflict with another group, murdered his own captain from behind, and absorbed both teams to reach the Muscle Refining Realm 238. He ultimately became the final survivor of the trial and was formally named the Blood Demon Sect’s Saint Son, second only to the sect master 341.

Rain Demon

After returning from the trial, Zhang Xiaoyu discovered Yun Mengwu had poisoned both his food and wine to use him as a cultivation cauldron. He saw through the trap, killed her, burned their courtyard, and abandoned his remaining attachment to life in the Demonic Path 342.

Known thereafter as the Rain Demon, he developed into a leading figure of the Blood Demon Sect. He reunited with Lin Feng after years apart, but concealed the Maneater Old Demon’s presence and the suffering caused by the golden circlet 454. He continued to protect Lin Feng even when the old demon urged him to exploit or harm his brother 465 467.

Great Void and Final Battle

After reaching Grandmaster, Zhang Xiaoyu entered the Great Void. He initially lost his martial arts upon arrival and was guided by Blood Demon Sect disciple Ma Xingyuan to Blood Demon City 489 490. He later developed Mental Power, became Lin Feng’s partner in demon hunting, and formed a relationship with Aliya, a Great Void native 553 604.

Zhang eventually reached the Quasi-Martial Saint realm. During Ying Tian’s attack, he covered Lin Feng’s family’s retreat and was killed while attempting to block a Martial Saint’s blade strike 962 963.

Appearance

Zhang Xiaoyu was originally a bearded farmer from Xiaohe Village. As the Rain Demon, he wore blood-red robes and presented a far more severe, controlled image than in his earlier life 341 454.

Zhang Xiaoyu began as an honest, family-minded farmer whose generosity extended even to Lin Feng’s hungry children 454. The Bloodthirsty Demonic Art, repeated life-or-death struggles, and the Maneater Old Demon’s influence transformed him into an ambitious and calculating cultivator willing to use betrayal, ambushes, and blood-draining arts to survive 193 238.

Despite this transformation, he retained deep loyalty toward Lin Feng. He repeatedly trusted Lin Feng with his family, refused to let the Maneater Old Demon use Lin Feng as a vessel, and risked his life to defend him during the conflict with the Blood River Demon Lord 164 465 467.

His pursuit of power was driven partly by fear of helplessness. He accepted brutal sacrifices for cultivation, but the Blood Demon Ancestor warned him that this path could cost him his true self 451.
