Chapter 8: First clash with Bei Bei
Generally speaking, a Soul Master's constitution tended to align with the attributes of their Martial Soul.
If Mu En possessed a light constitution as pure as Ye Xixuan's, he would at least encounter no bottlenecks while cultivating at the Titled Douluo level. With enough accumulated power, even his breakthrough to Limit Douluo would come as naturally as water flowing into a channel.
Ye Xixuan's situation, however, lay at the opposite extreme.
His Martial Soul possessed the Ultimate Dark Attribute, while his body possessed pure light. The two had not come into conflict—this went far beyond being uniquely blessed by nature.
Mu En's external avatar was formed entirely from light elements. It seemed to have regained some of the dignity and bearing of his youth, his hands clasped behind his back and his gaze deep.
"Xuan Zi, do you remember when you attempted to break through to Limit Douluo?"
"I nearly suffered cultivation deviation that time. If you hadn't happened to be beside me and helped me resolve the trouble in time, there probably wouldn't be a Taotie Douluo in this world anymore." Recalling that experience, Xuan Zi's pupils contracted slightly, and a lingering fear instinctively rose within him.
"Even so, I spent a full three years in bed afterward before recovering my vitality. To this day, I haven't dared attempt to form a second soul core again."
"Our constitutions complement the attributes of our Martial Souls, so isotopic resonance is the more suitable method for forming a second soul core. After all, it offers a greater chance of success and correspondingly reduces the risks we must bear," Mu En said calmly.
"But Xixuan's Martial Soul and constitution have completely opposing attributes, maintaining a delicate balance. That also means that if he wishes to reach the Limit Douluo realm in the future, he can only choose the other method. Otherwise, he'll destroy that balance. This is both his opportunity and his trial."
"Yin-yang complementary dual soul cores?!" Xuan Zi's eyes widened as he murmured to himself.
"How could cultivating yin-yang complementary dual soul cores possibly be so easy with a human Soul Master's constitution?"
"Nothing in this world is absolute." Mu En smiled faintly. He had already begun planning Ye Xixuan's future cultivation path.
The Golden Tree's extraordinary manifestations gradually subsided, and Ye Xixuan's body no longer appeared as miraculous as before. His pure light constitution had no effect whatsoever on the cultivation of his Darkness Attribute Martial Soul.
Just as Mu En had said, his body and Martial Soul had reached a special balance.
Outside Shrek Academy's East City Gate, lights blazed brightly, and the lively cries of vendors filled the air.
Tang Ya gazed eagerly toward Shrek Academy. She had just explained her request to Zhou Yi. Since it concerned the Tang Sect, once the continent's foremost sect, Zhou Yi had said she would consult Yan Shaozhe, dean of Shrek Academy's Martial Soul Department, before giving her an answer.
At last, Zhou Yi appeared in Tang Ya's line of sight.
Tang Ya hurried forward and asked, "Teacher Zhou, what did Dean Yan say?"
"Dean Yan said that the Tang Sect enjoyed unrivaled prosperity ten thousand years ago. It could be said that without the Tang Sect founded by Ancestor Tang San, Shrek Academy would not have its ten thousand years of glory." Zhou Yi hesitated briefly, but ultimately relayed Dean Yan's words to Tang Ya exactly as he had spoken them.
"But with the continual development of Soul Tools and the dwindling of talented disciples, the Tang Sect has gradually fallen into decline. This is the choice of the times. The academy is deeply saddened that the Tang Sect's headquarters were seized, but Shrek Academy maintains a policy of impartiality toward all the continent's nations, so we cannot intervene."
Hearing Dean Yan acknowledge the Tang Sect's contributions, fierce hope instantly blazed in Tang Ya's eyes. Yet Zhou Yi's next words swiftly extinguished that light. She lowered her head, her pale hands clenched tightly, and bit down hard on her red lip with pearly teeth until a startling crimson seeped out.
A faint purple glimmer flashed deep within her eyes-a profound purple tinged with the aura of death.
At that moment, Tang Ya felt her mind go completely blank, her emotions swallowed by intense resentment. The surrounding clamor seemed to have been stripped away. She could only vaguely sense Zhou Yi's voice drifting toward her from far away, faint and elusive.

"Dean Yan also specifically mentioned one last thing. Although the academy cannot do much for the Tang Sect, it can offer the sect one admission slot each year without an entrance examination. Once you reach enrollment age, you can enter the outer court to study..." ;psme&;psme&
Meanwhile, in the open space before the Sea God Pavilion, Bei Bei idly kicked a pebble on the ground.
"Sister Lexuan, why do you think the Grand Ancestor specifically asked Xuan Zi to summon you to the Sea God Pavilion?"
"Mu En probably has his own plans." A fond smile appeared on Zhang Lexuan's stunning face as she patiently soothed Bei Bei.
"Besides, I already told you that you didn't need to come along."
"I get bored all by myself on Sea God Island. All those senior students in the inner court treat me like a little brat. The only person my age I've gotten to know these past few years is Xu Sanshi, and that guy spends most of his time cultivating in his own sect. I really wish I could enter the outer court sooner." At just nine years old, Bei Bei still had a fairly innocent disposition.
As Mu En's only descendant, he was pampered and indulged by every inner court teacher and student on Sea God Island. His own talent for Martial Soul cultivation was also outstanding, so his life had been smooth sailing since childhood.
Zhang Lexuan smiled as she said, "Actually, Mu En has already told me that he plans to let you, in another two years, ;psme&;psme&
enter the outer court."
"Really, Sister Lexuan?" Overjoyed, Bei Bei turned to look at Zhang Lexuan. Just then, three figures emerged from the Sea God Pavilion's first-floor hall.
Ye Xixuan supported the stooped Mu En, while Xuan Zi followed behind with his usual carefree air. As always, he held a roast chicken in one hand and wine in the other, eating until grease coated his mouth.
Seeing the unfamiliar Ye Xixuan so close to the Grand Ancestor, Bei Bei immediately felt an inexplicable sense of crisis. More importantly, his Martial Soul instinctively sensed a threat from Ye Xixuan.
"Grand Ancestor, who is he?"
"His name is Ye Xixuan. He'll be staying on Sea God Island to cultivate from now on, too. Bei Bei, you two must get along." With Ye Xixuan's help, Mu En settled back into his reclining chair and spoke with a kindly expression.
Unlike Bei Bei, Zhang Lexuan respectfully bowed to Mu En and Xuan Zi.
"Mu En, Xuan Zi."
"Bei Bei, you've come at just the right time. Mu En thinks very highly of little Xixuan here, and he's just obtained his first soul ring. Why don't you have a Soul Fighting match with him and teach him a little about combat?" Xuan Zi swallowed a mouthful of chicken. As though something had suddenly occurred to him, he looked at the slightly jealous Bei Bei and could not resist making the suggestion with mischievous delight.
Bei Bei was at that age when neither people nor dogs could stand him, and he often caused trouble on Sea God Island. Naturally, Xuan Zi was happy to see him taken down a peg.
Whatever Xuan Zi's motives, Ye Xixuan had no reason to refuse. He knew very well that to earn recognition anywhere, he had to demonstrate his worth. Besides, he also needed actual combat to familiarize himself with his Martial Soul's abilities and Soul Skill after advancing.
He immediately stepped forward and nodded solemnly to Bei Bei.
"Senior Brother Bei, please give me your guidance."
