Background / History

Xu Sanshi comes from the powerful Xuanming Sect, whose foundations include more than one Titled Douluo. His family’s influence and close relationship with Shrek Academy allow him access to Sea God Island despite its usual restriction to Inner Court disciples. Before enrolling, he spends much of his time cultivating in his sect and is one of Bei Bei’s few acquaintances of the same age 8 26 30.

After discussing his martial soul’s second awakening with Ye Xixuan, Xu Sanshi approaches his father about a marriage arrangement. His mother subsequently finds him a fiancée from a Soul Master family in the Dou Ling Empire, approximately five years older than him. He initially keeps her identity secret; she is later introduced as Yu Mengdi 29 36 71 114.

His family ties distinguish him from students already firmly aligned with Shrek’s leadership. Ye Xixuan and Bei Bei deliberately extend favors to Xu Sanshi and Yu Mengdi to strengthen their attachment to the academy’s future core group 115.

Appearance

Xu Sanshi is a handsome, tall, burly boy whose build is more robust than Bei Bei’s when they reunite during enrollment 26.

Personality

Xu Sanshi is boastful, talkative, and fond of suggestive jokes. He openly celebrates advantages over Bei Bei, whether they involve his engagement or his ten-thousand-year fourth soul ring. His eagerness to show off nearly costs him his Promotion Assessment result when he refuses to leave the platform after passing 36 71 111.

Beneath his loose talk, he values loyalty and treats his friends sincerely. Competition also motivates him: after losing to Bei Bei’s team in the Freshman Assessment, he devotes himself to cultivation to regain his standing 29 30 31.

He is more perceptive about romance than Bei Bei, repeatedly pointing out that Tang Ya treats Ye Xixuan differently from everyone else. However, his habit of spreading gossip can backfire, as when his comments about Tang Wutong’s interest in Ye Xixuan upset Tang Ya 36 49 67.

Ma Xiaotao is the person he fears most. He immediately becomes meek in her presence and explicitly asks his father to find him a gentle fiancée rather than someone with her temperament 26 36.

The Black Tortoise Shield is the awakened form of Xu Sanshi’s Xuanming Turtle Shell Shield and is classified as a super Martial Soul 71 133.

Black Tortoise Displacement

His fourth soul skill is a spatial ability that surrounds its target with dense dark-green light 133.

• Used against Ye Xixuan during the reserve-team captain selection 133.

• Ye Xixuan — Junior schoolmate, friend, and sparring partner. Ye Xixuan encourages him to consider his second awakening and a marriage alliance, then helps arrange a discounted soul-bone purchase for him and Yu Mengdi 29 115.
• Yu Mengdi — Fiancée chosen through his family. Her confidence in him rests on his awakened bloodline, talent, and powerful background. He offers to purchase the Golden Radiance Left Arm Bone as a betrothal gift 36 114 115.

Enrollment and Early Rivalry

Bei Bei introduces Xu Sanshi to Ye Xixuan on Sea God Island, where Ma Xiaotao prevents the pair from escaping a sparring session. Xu Sanshi subsequently fights both friends and finishes the evening exhausted after serving as their defensive target 26 29.

His team reaches the Freshman Assessment final but loses to Bei Bei’s team by an almost overwhelming margin. Assigned to the same class as Jiang Nannan, he responds by immersing himself in cultivation rather than pursuing her 30 31.

Awakening and Treasure Appraisal Fair

At the fourth-year Promotion Assessment, Xu Sanshi unveils his awakened Black Tortoise Shield and ten-thousand-year fourth ring. His prolonged celebration ends only when his teacher threatens to invalidate his result 71.

He later introduces Yu Mengdi at the Treasure Appraisal Fair. Ye Xixuan uses his fifty-percent VIP discount to arrange their purchase of the Golden Radiance Left Arm Bone, originally priced at 9,500,000 Gold Soul Coins 114 115.

Kero’s Assassination Attempt

Xu Sanshi joins the response to Kero’s attack on Ye Xixuan and protects Ling Luochen while she supplies control support. After witnessing Ye Xixuan overpower the Soul Saint, he asks Yu Mengdi to stop comparing their abilities 117 118 120.

Tournament Reserve Selection

Xu Sanshi reaches the final arena alongside Bei Bei, Tang Wutong, and Ye Xixuan. Xuan Zi reveals that all four have already been earmarked for the next generation of Shrek Seven Devils and constitute the tournament reserve team 131 132.

During the captain-selection fight, he and Bei Bei coordinate their strongest techniques against Ye Xixuan. Their defeat leaves Xu Sanshi injured, but their performance earns the main team’s recognition: apart from Ma Xiaotao, none is certain of escaping their final attacks unscathed 133 134.

Eastsea Mission and Tournament Injuries

After two weeks of rotating-team combat training, Xu Sanshi departs with Shrek’s delegation and receives his Inspection Corps equipment. The group undertakes a mission against an Evil Soul Master near Eastsea City before proceeding to the tournament 136 137 138.

The encounter with the Myriad Souls Douluo leaves him contaminated by corrosive evil energy. His Black Tortoise bloodline keeps him in better condition than several stronger teammates, but he remains unable to fight. He warns that relying solely on Ye Xixuan and Tang Wutong could expose their abilities too early in the tournament 143 144.

• The title “Outer Court Twin Stars”, shared with Bei Bei, appears in Ye Xixuan’s memories of the original storyline rather than as an established title in the current events 26.
