As Chen Shi and the Pokémon prepared to leave the garden, Giratina’s scarlet eyes appeared in a puddle, then vanished after Mew arrived, leaving Chen Shi shaken.

• Dragapult warned Chen Shi that he had sensed a powerful presence while practicing Shadow Force in the Distortion World.
• Chen Shi realized the presence might have been Giratina and forbade Dragapult from using Shadow Force without permission.
• Dragapult told Chen Shi that absorbing the Mystery Realm Core Shard had brought him close to leveling up, and Chen Shi praised him before heading back to eat with Jirachi and Florges.

Chen Shi learned that Giratina had come for Pokéblocks and had allowed Dreepy to use Shadow Force because Chen Shi had helped it a thousand years earlier. The next day, Chen Shi told Dreepy the move was safe, then revealed he had given Giratina all of Dreepy’s Pokéblocks, leaving him dumbfounded.

• Giratina asked Chen Shi for Pokéblocks, and Chen Shi handed over all of Dragapult’s supply.

Chen Shi began harvesting the ripe Berries with Gardevoir and Metagross after Grandpa Chen asked him to bring them to the lab for research on top-grade Fairy-type Pokéblocks. Jirachi insisted on staying by Chen Shi’s side, mindful that it would soon return to its thousand-year sleep, while the Pokémon quickly gathered the first large batch.

• Chen Shi finished sorting and packing the Chen family's Berries, then asked Grandma Chen to make more Pokéblocks for Dragapult.

• Professor Oak asked Chen Shi to help research a device that could scan Pokémon and provide communication and recording features, but Chen Shi refused because he planned to visit a Mystery Realm in Hoenn with Cynthia and the others.

Chen Shi and his Pokémon spent Jirachi’s last day awake playing with it before Jirachi used a comet’s power to help Victini hatch. Victini emerged, turned invisible from fright, then appeared on Chen Shi’s shoulder as Jirachi began to grow drowsy.

• Chen Shi stopped training so Dragapult, Swampert, Florges, Charizard, and the others could spend the day playing with Jirachi.
• At the place where Jirachi had first awakened, Jirachi asked Chen Shi whether they would meet again, and Chen Shi said their friendship would last forever.
• Jirachi used the comet’s power to give Victini’s egg enough victory energy to hatch.
• Victini hatched, became frightened by the crowd, and turned invisible before reappearing on Chen Shi’s shoulder.
• Chen Shi introduced Victini to Jirachi and explained that Jirachi had helped it hatch; Cynthia recognized the name Victini from somewhere.

Chen Shi welcomed Victini after it hatched and learned that Jirachi wished it could stay awake longer to spend time with him. When Jirachi offered one last wish, Chen Shi wished for Jirachi to never fall into its deep slumber again, setting the comet’s rules against one another.

• Chen Shi scanned Victini, discovered its potential exceeded the system’s ability to measure, and gave it Miltank milk.
• Jirachi told Chen Shi it was exhausted and would soon sleep, then shared its wish to avoid long slumbers so it could keep playing with him.
• Chen Shi asked Jirachi to recall what his past self had told it, and Jirachi remembered the words, “you have to defeat magic with magic.”

Chen Shi’s wish to free Jirachi from its thousand-year slumber nearly failed, but Victini shared his power and helped Jirachi defeat the comet’s influence. Jirachi woke and told Chen Shi it no longer had to sleep, while Cynthia learned Victini’s identity.

• Jirachi struggled against the comet’s power and apologized to Chen Shi when it seemed unable to grant his wish.
• Victini decided to help Jirachi, touched it, and poured his power into it, turning the struggle in Jirachi’s favor.

Chen Shi, Cynthia, and Pheobe arrived in Sootopolis City without knowing where to meet the others, but Wallace’s aide found them and brought them to the League’s hotel gathering. There, Steven and the other trainers welcomed them, and Steven asked about Chen Shi’s unusual Pokémon companions.

• Chen Shi, Cynthia, and Pheobe realized Grandpa Chen had not told them where to meet in Sootopolis City and decided to call him from the Pokémon Center.
• Wallace’s aide found Chen Shi and his companions, explaining that Steven had arrived and leading them to Wallace’s hotel, where the League had gathered Pokémon World Championships competitors.

Chen Shi explained that Altaria’s failed Mega Evolution might be caused by its Fairy type not awakening, giving Winona hope and easing her guilt toward Wallace. The group later gathered at Sootopolis City’s docks to board for the Mystery Realm, where Chen Shi teased Lance by calling him Doduo.

• Chen Shi explained that Altaria could gain the Fairy type after Mega Evolution and suggested Fairy-type Pokéblocks might help it succeed.

After answering questions and issuing tracking wristbands, he prepared the remaining trainers to enter for a one-month expedition.

• Sidney welcomed the arriving trainers and explained that the mystery realm entrance lay on the sea’s surface.
• Sidney announced that the top-tier mystery realm held rare treasures and pseudo-legendaries, exciting many trainers.
• Sidney warned that the realm contained many high-level Pokémon, including Elite Four level Pokémon, and said the expedition would last one month.
• Sidney confirmed that trainers could keep what they found, and a dozen or so people withdrew from the expedition.
• League staff handed out wristbands that tracked the trainers and let them call for help from Sidney and Drake.

Chen Shi entered the Mystery Realm with Mew and Jirachi marking him so they could reunite after the random teleportation. He landed in a forest, gathered his Pokémon, and was surrounded by a group of Breloom led by a powerful female Breloom.

• Sidney warned the trainers that the entrance might scatter them and forbade them from killing people inside the Mystery Realm.
• Chen Shi cautioned Steven and Cynthia to flee if they encountered suspicious people, then arranged for Mew and Jirachi to mark him before entering.
• Chen Shi arrived in a dense forest and released Victini, Dragapult, and Togekiss.
• Mew and Jirachi quickly found Chen Shi, and Jirachi returned to his arms.
• A tremor shook the forest, and a group of Breloom surrounded Chen Shi, led by a level 79 female Breloom.

Chen Shi and Jirachi were confronted by a Breloom group that mistook them for the Berry thief troubling its territory. After Jirachi restrained the group, Chen Shi cleared up the misunderstanding and agreed to let them go in exchange for answers.

• The Breloom leader ordered his group to attack Chen Shi, whom they suspected of stealing their Berries.

• Chen Shi explained that his strength made it unlikely he had secretly stolen their Berries, and the leader realized he had accused the wrong intruder.

Chen Shi learned that stronger Pokémon clans lived in the Mystery Realm’s central region and that its most powerful Pokémon dwelled in the deep sea or underground magma. He took some resources from the Breloom clan and continued toward the forest’s center, planning to obtain more goods to sell.

• Chen Shi asked the Breloom leader about stronger clans and learned that the central region held more powerful Pokémon, while the strongest lived in the sea or magma.
• Chen Shi demanded the Breloom clan’s valuable resources, and the reluctant leader sent clan members to fetch Type Gems, herbs, and Evolution stones.
• Chen Shi accepted the haul and left, while the Breloom leader confirmed that the clan had kept most of its reserves and given away items it could spare.

Elsewhere, Steven and Diantha found each other on an island after being stranded at sea, while Cynthia and Pheobe faced danger on land.

• Chen Shi flew out of the forest with Metagross and learned that the mystery realm contained two volcanic regions, a desert, and a forest surrounded by ocean.
• Chen Shi asked Mew where Groudon and Kyogre were, but Mew implied that they would try to escape their thousand-year confinement before fighting.

• Chen Shi followed the sound of waves to the shore, where Jirachi spotted a girl lying facedown.

Drake entered the mystery realm to protect the young trainees, leaving Sidney outside as Maxie seized the chance to attack the League’s ships and force his way in. Archie also arrived at the entrance, turning the confrontation into a gathering of the two rival leaders and Sidney.
